Watching this video again, it is such a nice airplane ! - Like all Saab airplanes. I really liked to fly the Saab 91 Safir, so wonderful. I watched the B17 Saab fly aerobatics in Sweden in 1997 and it was a blast. Keep her flying !!! Best Regards from Alaska.
I bet there was oil in the air-intake pipes Puddled up and that got sucked into the engine on startup! Very common, very dangerous, can bend a con-rod real quick. That is why we motor those radials with the starter and count blades for a while BEFORE we turn the ignition on. That way, if there is oil and a Hydraulic-lock, its not dangerous...
