I have a couple of moss poles that I bought from the store, so this video is awesome!! I have Philodendron Mican and Monstera Siltepecana on the poles.
Nice! Just made 2 the other day as well for my Tetrasperma and Adansonii! Never understood why moss poles are so expensive when bought, much rather keep making my own 🤗💚
i just made my 1st one yesterday n i only had moss so it's open moss tied with some twine :D I did for for ivy i have not seen anyone do that but i love ivy soooo much i want it to grow faster n bigger
Nice but I would like to offer some advice. First: that isn't 'chicken wire' it's welded hardware cloth which has smaller holes and therefore not as easy for the roots to attach and absorb water from the moss. Second: that twine will quickly decompose and the whole thing will come apart. Better to use wire, very strong/thick fish line or zip ties. Third: that wooden pole will rot and you will have to do it all over. Better/ longer lasting would be metal or strong plastic pole or PVC pipe. All these things are inexpensive and available at hardware or big box stores.
Dude the wood won’t rot for years and I bet the twine will last a couple as well. As for the mesh, it still has big holes this isn’t an exact science it’s a fun hobby.
Christian I have seen a few diy's about moss poles and I have to tell you yours is by far the BEST EVER! EVER! THANKS SOOOOOO MUCH! Now I'm motivated to make one! Thanks again! God bless you and continue staying safe.
Thanks so much. Its really simple and don’t need to complicate it 😆 . But yeah after you do one, you’ll never buy one ever again. Just keep making them. 😊
It looks great! I made one pole using coconut coir instead of the sphagnum moss, wrapped it with twine around an unused curtain rod... Not perfect but used the materials that I had available without spending too much money.
I've watched a few DIY's on making a moss pole & the people made it far too complicated to even try. BUT watching your video on making your moss pole looked very simple. I am going to try to make some for my pothos that grows crazy in my home. I think following your video I will be able to finally make a moss pole...Thank you for making it simple...
I have had monstera deliciosa for 12 years now and I just learned they are climbing plants! I had no idea why I was getting so many aerial roots. Lol! Thank you for the tutorial. I will be making my own, since I have all those materials already from other projects. Thanks for posting this!!
I made a pole for my monstera last month. I used a 2" bamboo and wound thick twine with a bit of hot glue down the whole pole. Then I used garden wire from the dollar tree to tie it to the twine/bamboo pole. It's putting out 3 new leaves.
Video so nice i wished i could like it twice. Very easy to understand and to follow instructions. Im growing climbing spinach so this helps alot. Thank you
The process of making moss pillars of plants is very interesting. There are also vine plants in my house. I want to make a moss pillar of Nadu and give it to my plant. I like Korean wildflowers. Your video is very interesting to me. I look forward to your next video.
A suggestion.... use a poly sealant on the pole before wrapping to prevent the wood rotting. Also, sphagnum moss is harvested in environmentally sensitive locations, if you can use coir matting for this project it might be easier to assemble and more sustainable. Great project though...I have a 15 year old pothos that has one of these in it’s future.
I wonder if the increased humidity from the moss pole is what improves growth on the plant? Also...u can also use the mini zip ties to close the mesh. If you have a local $1 store they often have packs of the tiny ones with like 200-300 mini zip ties for $1. Curling ribbon (like for gifts) even works in a pinch lol.
My raphi cuttings just started growing rapidly (finally!). They sure do grow in the blink of an eye now. Can't wait to make moss poles for this spring :)
Thank you so much!!!!!! You are awesome for giving me this link. I almost hit the “ORDER NOW” button at Amazon to order the pole which was of course expensive. My golden pothos are just dropping on the ground. They dont even stick on that wood i stick in the pot so they will climb. I also have an Ivy just hanging towards the ground. I will start my Plant Pole tomorrow. Thanks again.
Great video. I'm Going to use this idea. I might make a little change by leaving extra at the top above the wood to make it easier to water by sticking a bottle in the top and letting it flow down. Let me know if you think this will work.
I just made one the other day with pvc pipe and glued macrame cord around it to cover it. Then just tied up my philodendron with the same macrame cord. Pretty happy with the results.
The video was very helpful; yes the Ines online are very expensive so I'll make my own I hv several monstera varieties and pathos so these poles will be helpful . You make it look fun and easy ty look foward to your other videos 🌿☘️🍀🌱🪴
Bonjour Christian, bravo👏yours is great Indeed!I just repotted my Raphido yesterday, but I had no materials so...I just put two kind of bamboo sticks in the pot...and I attached like two stems... voilà !Have a nice day 🌱🌿🍃😊😉
I wouldn’t be encouraging the use of fishing line. It’s a HUGE pollution issue already. May I suggest hemp string?you can get a bees wax coated string to really last.
I'll keep an eye out for the materials! Maybe I'll end up making one for the monsteras I have. Right now they're tied up to bamboo and garden stakes😂 it's been working fine so far!
Just watched your video ..very helpful and looks fairly easy I hv a question do we hv to spray moss to keep it moist from time to time if so how often 🤔?
You wont believe my parents have money plant (voluntary) that clung on to the pillar and the ones on pillar are as huge as banana leaf and they grow taller too upto 12 ft.
I have the wood stick that you use in the middle. My concern is over time with consistent moisture would cause mold inside and harm the plant. Do you have that problem?
Hi Christian, I'm going to make a few of poles. Which garden center did you get the moss from? I'm in Etobicoke, Anga's is my local garden center and they only have a tiny package.
Question: do you need to water the moss? does it take-up water from the soil? does it need to be misted? does the plant get its moisture just from the soil & the pole is only for support ?
Hi Chris, if you would paint one wall with an accent color what color would it be? I think it'll give your space more warmth and personality and less of a cold sterile feel.
I made a 6ft pole for my rt and it outgrew it within 4 months 🤷😏 I also had mine in a heavy ceramic pot but it was still so top heavy because the pole was huge, so I ended up using some 3M hooks on the wall and tethered it to the pole to keep it from toppling over!
Wow. I get a feeling my RT is going to outgrow this one soon. lol. I was actually thinking I should have placed the rocks in the pot near the base of the pole to create more of a heavier base. But that 3m hook and tethered is a great idea too. Thanks for sharing.
@@CrazyPlantGuy oh just watch that guy explode with growth, the stem is gonna get super thick and the leaves will have so many more fenestration! yeah I would have put some rocks on the bottom to give it balance but if you do the wall hook method you'll have greater peace of mind! LOVE your videos Christian ❤️! Quick question (I'm sure quite silly 😔 but), do you also water the moss pole and if so, is it watered everytime the plant is watered?
I usually water the moss when I water mine or when I give it a good shower or hose down. Hard to keep the moss consistently wet since they dry out faster than your potting soil.
