I've been messing around with Planet Zoo to come to grips with all the options, and honestly, there are just so many ways to build an enclosure! I don't spend any time dolling these up in this video, but I can't wait to kick off the let's play where I'm likely going to spent countless (timelapsed) hours on these things... Cheers!

I think we'll get that, I mean they've left out all arctic animals, so that must be a dlc in the making where we get seals, sea lions, penguins, polar bears
I know this video is a couple month's old but i just wanted to say you can build an underwater cave. water becomes a static object in the world after it has been placed. this means you can tunnel underneath it. fill the roof of the tunnel with glass pieces and tadaaa aquarium style tunnels. I hope this helps someone out there.
The early Zoo Tycoons had a terrestial base-game and an aquatic DLC's too. So im hoping they continue this. Please for the love of god this needs top happen
I read that idea quite a lot, had the same. My 6 year old wanted me to build something with sharks, but that's not gonna happen too soon. They have a lot to do with patching the game, I hope they get that done and release an aquatic DLC in the near future.
Great video!! I have poured HOURS and HOURS in this game...and have yet to even get a zoo off the ground. Overcomplicated at times? Yes - but these helped little vids make getting setup a hell of a lot easier. The depth of this game is just unreal - I'm just thankful for good tutorials and the Steam Workshop with pre-built structures :)
First starting planet zoo: How do I use less barriers..? 150 hours in planet zoo: Oh yeah, I GUESS I could use 3 pieces of glass barrier this one time. -Hasn't placed anything other than null barriers in a really long time-
As someone who has been struggling from these, they actually helped me a lot thank you so much for the help I recommend this video for new players in planet zoo!
That was awesome! Love all 3 of those exhibits. Like you, I was hoping we could do underwater tunnels, and I did a bunch of testing with that in the beta (mostly because my theory is -- they already have logic to test if a roof piece is there to prevent rain from going under it -- if they can do that with water as well, we'd DEFINITELY get an aquatic DLC in the future). Obviously scenery doesn't block water (YET?!) but I did find a workaround. If you replaced the glass roof with terrain, so the path is fully underground, but had the terrain lower down -- like halfway to the path -- and the terrain went all the way over the glass fence, like on the side where you built it into the wall -- you could actually fill in the lake, leaving the path dry (protected from above by terrain and the sides by glass). So you can't see right over you, but the animals can swim from one side to the other.
i swear josh from let game it out give a great disservice to the game. he make it seem like this is a simple causal management game but there is like a whole lvl of management to deal with
I just downloaded this game and I’m trying to build a habitat and holy cow. My habitats look awful. I’m so grateful to have stumbled upon your channel for the inspiration to play this game
I can't wait for the Let's Play!!!!!! Also, very interesting video, makes it very tempting to get the game and try those enclosure techniques out myself
You CAN make a glass-roofed underwater tunnel with water over it, but it's tricky. Paulsley and DeLadysigner both do that, I believe, and probably others.
You can create an underwater underpass. Build a very thin layer of terrain over the top of the path and the seal up for edges with glass barriers and the water can be cast over the top of the path as a single exhibit. Took a bit of manipulation but I got there. If you delete the glass barriers, the water stays, not yet tried it with the terrain on top yet, then you could possibly seal it with a decent rooftop.
I made something similar to an aquarium viewing area, I didn’t use animals that need water it was kind of just an experiment but I placed the guest spawner in an aardvark exhibit, I’m going to make a video about it soon on my UA-cam haha I’ll explain it in further depth there.
You can tunnel under a lake and not have a barrier between the water and the path and guests walk under. Like you were mentioning with an "aquarium" style. I'm not sure if this is a glitch or a quality of life trait. but it still works. I did this with Hippos that primarily stay in the water. You can of course add a glass to make it appear to be a tunnel, but you don't need to.
You can have them swim overhead! I made an exhibit with a river through the middle but didn't put water in yet, made the glass tunnel top flush with the bottom of the river from beginning to end of the river. Then fill with water. Looks awesome with Gharials or Crocs:)
I've been wondering the same thing. I built an amazing habitat for my lemurs, with the glass underpass, and I get a notification that the keeper can't reach the feeders on the other side. It's really quite frustrating, especially because the zoopedia says that lemurs are neutral to humans, yet every other minute or so I get a notification that they're all stressed to the max. Now I have to disassemble the whole habitat and start over without an overpass.
You might have to built an platform for the monkey to climb on, where the entrance is and a "bridge" over the tunnel. Just like animals, keepers don't need "ground" to walk on as far as I know. So use climbing wood, rocks etc
@Jonno the Bait I figured it out! I dug out a small hole and made sure hat grass was leading into and out both ends under the pass. This fixed the issue.
I made an underpass for mandril that looked alot like the one in this and guest kept thinking the animals were free and would run away whenever the were on top of the overpass
@@Bibiexxlove yeah it seems that the game reads the path as a walkable area for the animal if they're able to walk on the glass structure. What I've been doing instead is building climbing structures that go over the glass walkway without touching it. It seems to be working so far.
@@finepopinefloveswaca keepers can walk over gentle enough slopes, just like animals can. unlike guests, they will not phase through stuff. for my penguin habitat i made a ramp for the penguins and for the keeper to move up to maintain this tall underwater scene.
The last one reminds me of when I was at a zoo and I was in the ring tailed lemur exhibit (I think) and it was a wooden path with a roof going over the exhibit. You could see the giraffe exhibit from there XD
On the enclosures with paths through the middle, how do you ensure staff can access the whole habitat? I've been playing in Career mode and it only lets me add one gate - can you add multiple gates in other modes? Will staff walk over glass ceilings, or is there a way to add stairs within the habitat? Looking forward to trying these!
you can have water over guests if you build it in the oposite order. Build the exhibit, put water in it, tunnel the path under the exhibit, build the glass tube. There's a video for it elsewhere on youtube.
For the apes idea I have the issue of my keepers being unable to clean both sides. Is there a fix to that. UPDATE! I figured it out! I dug out a small hole and made sure That grass was leading into and out both ends under the pass. This fixed the issue.

What do you do about zookeeper access to the other half of the glass walkway chimp habitat? You could put all of the food on the side they can access but that doesn't solve the issue of them not being able to clean half of the habitat.
Hey, actually TheGamingBeaver managed to get the water over the guest tunnel in his crocodile exhibit so they were swimming over them. If u wanna learn how, check out his video.
One quick question, can I use a cliff like structure to act as a wall? Like, do I necessarily need to put a complete wall loop around the area for it count as an animal enclosure?
Use the Null barrier in front or behind the cliff also make sure the animal that you’re making the enclosure can’t climb. The null barrier won’t work if you don’t have anything in front of it. You can also surround the null barriers with water for animals that can’t swim. I hope this helps and if does not ask me to break it down into further detail.
