What a great movie and exceptional cast. Good story line with many twist and turns. Dean was an outstanding actor during his career . He was a gift to this world with his comedy, singing acting and a humble person
Thank you very much for posting this movie, a forgotten gem, rarely seen on tv and impossible to purchase from the usual platforms. Everything about it is excellent, the story, production and acting. All first rate. About Dean Martin, after his supreme showmanship as a singer, light comedian, tv star and all round personality, it's easy to forget just how accomplished an actor he really was.👍 dramatic roles such as those in RIO BRAVO, SOME CAME RUNNING, THE YOUNG LIONS, TOYS IN THE ATTIC but above all here in CAREER show us his multi faceted talent at it's best. Boy, do I miss him. Thanks again.
This film reminds me of my younger brother L.M.C. He was born to Act. I watch this film from time to time, because it's almost his biography. God, I hope there's Theater in Heaven. Lord knows, there's there's plenty of Stars....🙏😇🙏
What are the best movies I have ever seen. Script Structure structure with dialogue OnPoint and I do not think this could have been casted any better loved it loved it loved it with redeeming quality 2 is fine Hollywood ending
Excellent film I has never heard of ! Show the ups and downs ( mostly downs) of the actors life! A heartbreaking world of narcissists, alcoholics, drug addicts and users.... what a horrible existence
Two scenes which surprised me for their earthiness were; 1. A pregnant woman complaining about having a lot of gas!!😂 2. A young girl picking her nose!!🤣
Excellent. Very well acted and extremely well documented bringing in McCarthyism into the subject matter. Shirley Maclaine was also Excellent as the Drunk but all gave superb performances. Well worth a view, Certainly one of the better films to come out of Hollywood in the 50s.Thanks for the upload.
Thank you for posting this! I'm glad my mom wouldn't let me see it when it first came out in 1959, when I was eleven. This movie is brilliant. It's one of the most honest depictions I've ever seen of what you're in for if you want a career in the arts.
I'm glad that "Shirley" and "Sam" were going to go out at the end. Very touching. I felt bad about "Sharon" and "Maury" though. Didn't seem to be much hope for them. Thanks for posting, dino4ever (Great handle, btw! :) )
@@chrisbaround9094 oh, just fine. My back is giving me issues, but that's a daily battle ever since greedy ignorant doctors left me nothing but Acetaminophen for pain. My day is progressing, although I've only got 37 out of 73 words from today's NYT's pangram. I solved today's Wordle in 3 tries. Whoohoo! I was on a roll until the pangram.
What a great movie. The story was true to life and the New York theatre of those days, and brilliantly portrayed by a cast of stars I have known and loved down the years. Grateful thanks 'dino4ever' for bringing me this film at this particular time of my life, when I was considering throwing in the towel over my own 'arts' career. Then again while we're still drawing breath, eh . . .
Franciosa is a terrific and mostly under-appreciated actor. He was also really good in "A Hatful of Rain" (1957), "The Story on Page One" (1959) & "Period of Adjustment" (1962).
What a great film! What a slice of life! Great performances all around! Dean Martin's role was amazing in being a creep in 40 different positions! Thanks for posting!
never knew the reality of how big this guy was till I started youtube videos, I mean Im from that era but never paid very much attention at the time till recently. everything I see was true, or atleast everything that was portrayed. The guys life style and success is hard to fathom! surley no one, I mean no one like this will never come around again.
30.40: Sharon: 'Sam.....I love that name...you know, the first man I ever completely destroyed was named Sam...he's a hairdresser now.' A fabulous film with impeccable acting, stage direction, cinematography, direction, camera.......everything about this film is what films are, or should be, all about. The name Sam lawson should be in every would-be actors script, every dressing room, on every dashboard, every fridge door.....forget Withnail and I........here is the stark truth of the acting world......with, I might add,a superb ending. Anthony Franciosa?...matchless performance. Why are you wasting time reading this?.....watch and enjoy Career!
Carolyn Jones, Aaron Spelling's first wife. And along with Dick Powell and Barbara Stanwyck, helped him launched "his" Career. Barbara Stanwyck was Tori Spelling godmother.

good film. I'd never paid any attention to Anthony Franciosa before but he was a great actor and attractive too. Good performances all round, Shirley Mac doing her usual cookie act but well done , no one does it like her! was it worth it Sam? Maybe, maybe not!
I always liked Shirley MacLaine as an actress but beware of her books and channeling and new age, she may have been mind controlled Laurel Canyon and Birth of the Hippie Generation online speaks of this and mentions her and her brother warren.
Thank you for uploading the whole movie. It would be better with closed captioning for the hard of hearing, as I remember it the dialogue was very good, esp poignant with Tony and Carolyn.
Excellent movie. Dean Martin is especially good in this. Did Dean's first couple of minutes on screen remind anyone else of "Ratso Rizzo" (of Midnight Cowboy)?
I'd never heard of this quality film - good story, rounded characters in complex relationships, very well acted, rather unpredictable. Rather surprisingly, the film also deals with the blacklist, and I find Dalton Trumbo had an uncredited hand in the screenplay. Mind you, American movies about showbiz often offer the lie that if you're talented and keep plugging away you will eventually achieve success. It might have been a slightly more accurate film if - SPOILER ALERT - it had ended with the hero returning to off-Broadway struggling. This might have made the final lines more poignant. I suspect the original play had this ending.
I met Tony in 1968, when he was filming "The Name of Game" at Universal. He was the typical New York actor, I know I still live here. Very complicated, very sexy and very difficult. But I found him fascinating. I he wasn't so damn to work he could have been a huge star. He was a very good actor, and damn he was handsome. But Tony, or Anthony (depending) on which name he was using. And he is missed.
Five Stars Forever by this Critic. A must see for all generations worldwide.🕵🏻♂️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸✅
Absolutely SUPERB movie! I had never heard of it! Dean Martin, Tony Franciosa, Carolyn Jones and Shirley MacClaine
Hey nana how are you doing today 👋👋
Saw this as a kid, always enjoyed it. The cast is exceptional. And Dean Martin outstanding!
Say it once and I will say it again. One great movie with a great cast!!
Great performances all around, but the surprise is Dean Martin. He's terrific.
Tony and Carolyn Jones are unforgettable actors.
What a great movie and exceptional cast. Good story line with many twist and turns. Dean was an outstanding actor during his career . He was a gift to this world with his comedy, singing acting and a humble person

A powerful movie about artistic narcissistic-maschochistic perseverance.

Toys in the Attic! A film that didn't get the props it deserved. I can watch it again and again.
Wth? Unbelievable. Best movie I've seen on you tube in two years. No fast forwarding. Dean Martin , Bravo! And the lead? Superb.

Drama post-WWII 1950's style. Great ending.
The only place to find this movie was here, and thank you so much for the upload!
Nominated for Oscars in cinematography, art direction, and costume design. Tony Franciosa won Golden Globe for male lead.
A good movie ,even if a tad melodramatic at times . Tony F. Gives a fine performance as does the rest of the cast. A bitter sweet ending .
Stunning performances in a stunning movie. Most especially Carolyn Jones. She, who waited longer than anyone for what she dreamed of.
Carolyn Jones was a wonderful actress!
Yes & has "a Bette Davis air" about her here.
I loved her eyes 👀
