- Just installed HB Menu 2.0 and a couple Homebrew apps to test out on my Nintendo Switch with 3.0.0 firmware let's check it out!
Just a WARNING when modding a console there is always a chance you can brick it or lose online services such as Eshop and online gameplay so proceed at your own risk.

For this mod I used a 32 gb sandisk micro SD HC. Im hearing SD XC cards are not compatible because they ask for update to system which you want to avoid. Also here is a link that talks about firmware and how to update to 3.0.0 if your firmware is lower

8 Bit Flashback hey I got the switch with 3.0.0 but when I put my mini SD card in it says A system update is required to use the microSDXC memory card.
DEE981 i believe my card is hc not xc. Mine is just a cheap sandisk 32gb. So sounds like memory card issue. also you can try formatting it on a pc fat32 format then put back in switch to see if it works.

PSA: On Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10, you do NOT need WinRAR, 7-Zip, etc. to extract ZIP files, as Windows allows you to do that within the Explorer. You only need external applications to extract RAR, 7Z, and other archive formats.

Yea I personally used 7-zip back when I used Windows. Nowadays the GNOME Archive Manager is my goto (Looks better than 7-Zip or WinRAR :P).

You can do that on anything. That's like hacking a PS4 to play PS1 games.
it has been done! still, they need to get it actually running in the switch's os. the best part is, it works on any firmware and is unpatchable (unless you have one of the new consoles, which, as far as i know, aren't being sold yet.) so, 17.8 million hackable switches out there.

This will be possible on all firmwares of the first model switch soon thanks to an exploit related to the tegra chip, so buy one asap if you want cfw/homebrew, its a matter of weeks before the fabled new model comes.

I kinda dont wanna be that guy and this pretty cool and all but.... Wouldnt it just be easier to buy a tablet for less than the price of a switch and just run through that?
They are hoping or tying to rip the carts so they can all get free....Err... I mean "back-up" games so they don't have to support or buy anything. Just like they did with the Wii and Wii U.
And everyone wonders why Nintendo doesnt want to allow saved games on the SD card.. THIS is why. Because that is exactly how people hacked the Wii.

??? He's not talking about default save location, he's talking about backing up to SD, which very much WAS prohibited to prevent hacking. The time it takes to write a save is negligible anyways. People run entire games from SD. A save file isn't gonna make a difference

They only wanted physical releases? Cuz the default 32gb was not going to cut it. If that's the case then they didn't think very far ahead and should've put a much larger storage, like a terabyte at least.
What are you talking about? My comment has nothing to do with physical releases or the internal storage size.
Also, news just broke that D-ram manufactures considerably jacked up the price right around the time Nintendo was finalizing and starting production of the Switch which in all likelyhood affected the cost of internal storage. So i really find it hard to blame Nintendo for the storage, and more blame Samsung and the other few d-ram manufactures. If they hadn't jacked up the price, Nintendo would have likely shipped with more internal storage.
If Nintendo ever sorted their virtual console out, as in uploading every old game, letting me play one purchase on different devices and setting a price cap of say £5 for the better ones, I’d have given them hundreds by now. I think loads of people would have.

This is considered to be an old hack for the Nintendo
Switch. There's a hardware hack now that works regardless of the firmware revision. Keep an eye out for a hacker group called FellOverFlow. Proof of concept coming soon. Nintendo has been advised of this Tegra chip flaw. So you can expect to see a "New Nintendo Switch" on the store shelves soon with improved features and a chip that can't be hacked.

I haven't bought a switch yet, mainly because there's no way to download and play backup switch games so far. My wii can handle all of the emulators as it is by far the BEST console to play emulators on

Years? Maybe, piracy is the real issue and that isn't years off, I doubt it's even months off. It's the reason the PSP stopped being supported even though it sold exceptionally well.

Waiting for team xecuter and linux, the hardware mod, running code at bootloader level, is infinitely better. Grab a switch now before they do a hardware revision and knowing Nintendo they will release new tegra X1 chips under the hood and keep it under wraps

Admiral Trousersnake I wonder if it's anything like the reset glitch hack where you send a pulse width modulation signal to interrupt part of the boot process. For the xbox360 its purpose was to bypass the hypervisor, a dedicated part of the xenos chip that ensured no unsigned code ran. (Booted as part of the POST process Prior to the operating system) Prior to the reset glitch, the Xbox360 could be modified through use of an exploit found through calling a bug found through the 360s graphics shader code which got patched and downgrading was impossible at time bc MS blew efuses to prevent downgrades.
NB: if you ask me I think the 360 was a challenging beast to hack. Apparently the dude who glitched the 360 claimed it was by chance he discovered the flaw to insert a pulse signal prior to the POST process

I got my switch at launch I've done a few updates since but none it quite a while. Right now when i try to check my software version it just says theres an update available. Is there another way to check what version in running? Or what would happen if I tried to install homebrew on a system past 3.0 0

kublaikhan1215 it's true that the latest hardware exploit lets you run things on any firmware but it's better to stay on lower firmwares (at least below 5) until we have more information because it might be easier for CFW to be installed

Hugo Silva i believe they have got switch games running on pc switch emulators but not on switch consoles yet. Posting videos about actual backups of switch games will probably get pulled from youtube with copyright claims so it might be a while before we see videos on it.

does this require and an internet connection once set up? like can you do it on the go without a network?
Samponsite 23 you can but if the switch gets any errors when playing or testing out a game it causes your console to reset then you have reconnect to internet to run homebrew menu. Picodrive, snes9x , and pfba seem to be fairly stable and error free for the most part so i can play those offline.

Phil Huntsman you could potentially "brick" your device. Meaning it'll be as useful as a brick and sending it somewhere for repair isn't an option.

@@blrryface no it doesn't, not necessarily anyway in the case of yuzu, as the fw is reverse engineered. some games do need some files tho, but not all.

Xecuter also bricked switches if you wanted to have fun in it's code, and sucked as a *paid pirating software*, using other ones using the same method as you would get the xecuter to work work better and are more open to user modifications, soooo

Btw xecuter isn't the only option anymore. there is things such as atmosphere and RcmLoader.
