Riding The Vintage Sóller Tram (Sóller Town ➡️ Port de Sóller), Mallorca, Spain

  • Taking the vintage Sóller tram between Sóller Town and Port de Sóller is a real treat. It's not the cheapest way to get up or down the hill - that would be walking, and it'll take you between 45mins and an hour, but it is certainly the quicker and more fun way! Simply, jump aboard a tram (leaving every 30 minutes from either the rear of Sóller Train Station, or, at the other end, the tram stop towards the middle of the long bay), cough up your 7 Euros to the ticket person, and enjoy the ride!
    I don't think there's any more enjoyable way of getting around than by rail, and doing it on a vintage engine (in this case, the tram is electric) takes it up a serious notch.
    This video is an informal Part Two to my Part One video: Riding the vintage train from Palma de Mallorca to Sóller Town. If you've not seen that video and the beautiful scenery within it, check it out here:

    Your seafood (or any) restaurant recommendations for the Port de Sóller (and the town for that matter) are very welcome here in the comments! I'm a big fan of discovering great quality, low-key places where the locals in-the-know like to go. Next time I'm down this way, your suggestions will be a much-needed help. Cheers!

    Hey Ruairidh, We love these trips, both on the train and then the tram, well worth the cash! A good locals restaurant in Port de Soller is Restaurante Sol y Sombra; a bit off the main tourist area with good food and drinks. Keep making the vids, they are very entertaining and keep us going between trips to the island! P.S. hopefully you and yours have managed to shake the virus now! All the best, Matt & family.

    Excellent video, another example of your superb wit and repartee.. 😊 Just come back from Cala d’Or and it’s so good to see this gorgeous island “alive” again, can’t wait to be back there in a few months. I fully agree with your sentiments about the train and tram ride, they are superb and a great way to see Palma, Soller and Port De Soller, and yes, very much well worth the money. Did you feel that Port de Soller feels like it is still in the glamour of the 1950’s, there’s a real vibe about the place?
    As for a hair product suggestion… in that breeze, how about Araldite??? 😊 😊 (only kidding) Keep up the great work, looking forward to the next Video.. Cheers Deryn (UK)
    PS, not in Port De Soller but we did find an excellent little bar/restaurant in Palma called Bar Dias near the main bus/train station... the grilled prawns are amazing... :-)

    • @RuairidhMason
      @RuairidhMason  Рік тому

      Deryn! Thanks for watching and enjoying the vids. Yes, AWESOME to see Mallorca alive and kicking. Palma was MOBBED when we there, arguably more than I've ever seen it.
      I agree with you about the port. It's got such a nice vibe to it. I was just telling Kiki all about how we must head up there more often. Classy, stylish, very chilled, FANTASTIC people watching. It's got it all. AND an incredible sunset between the rocks at the edge of the bay.
      Will have to look for Bar Dias. Don't know it. Incidentally, Bar Día (right down in the very touristy area of La Lonja, Palma) is a great, very low-key spot to check out. Cheap as chips too and very friendly / efficient team behind the bar.
      Cheers Deryn! R

    Strippers wearing mini-kilts: 'get them off!' Haha, that's the Ruairidh, we know and love! Fantastic! Absolutely beautiful footage of the Soller railway. I think this is some of the best video you've ever done. This to me is the definitive showcase of this beautiful trip, and the people that own the railway should hire you for a comission. God, I love Mallorca so much! Is this all done wih one Go-Pro? If so, you nailed it! Oh and by the way you were after recommendations? My better half assures me that 'Bed Head by TIGI Hard Head Hairspray for Extra Strong Hold' is the one to go for!

    • @RuairidhMason
      @RuairidhMason  Рік тому +1

      Chris! Glad you enjoyed the vid :D All done on the Go-Pro, too. Great wee camera (but horrific in low light), with awesome digital stabilisation. When I started doing video in 2005 we were using cameras the size of these Javelin rocket launchers you see in Ukraine, filming about 1/16th of the resolution lol. What next?! Watch this space for my foray into VR...
      BED HEAD - I've heard of the brand and will investigate. My Tesco's budget wax + cheap hairspray combo not cutting the mustard. Getting some major floppage at the front.

    The best restaurant in Port de Soller is the Kingfisher, a little further on from the tram terminus. All of the food, especially the seafood, is absolute top quality but you will have to book a good few weeks, if not months in advance. It is family run and you will leave with a very good feeling!

    Restaurants in the port: Sa Figuera and Es Canyís. Also, you have a Spanish girlfriend, right? Please have her teach you to pronounce Sóller. You know how people from the UK can get bent out of shape when visitors don't pronounce Edinburgh or Worcestershire "right"? (Even though Brits themselves can't agree how to pronounce that last one.) FAIR IS FAIR.
    (Also "paella" does not rhyme with "the fella" for all of those committing that particular linguistic butchery).
    Bustin' your chops aside, it's a nice video with a fun commentary. Sóller is my hometown and I kind of miss the way it was back in the 70's and 80's. It's cleaner now and more refined, but it was a lot more vibrant back then. Kids could catch crabs and fish right along the seawall near the tracks. Haven't seen crabs there in a long time now.

      Sóller is wonderful. I love going there, especially on the fun, overpriced touristy train. 😌

    • @sarukravitz4981
      @sarukravitz4981 3 місяці тому

      @@RuairidhMason You are correct. It is horribly overpriced for tourists. (Locals get a subsidized price break). It used to be cheap back in the day. I have old ticket stubs and it was a bargain. I've argued that they should lower the price to make it more accessible, but nope, there's too much money involved.
