BMW X5 Paint Ruined by CRACKED PPF

This was definitely a first for us here at 2JS. A client showed up with his cars' paint completely ruined by cracked PPF. It was definitely a challenge, but we were able to restore the paint to it's former glory. How long before cracking starts to appear on ppf like this ? Does this happen to all types of ppf and what to aware of. Need more information on this issue.
