Chris your style of wheeling is exemplary. There’s no reason to abuse your equipment, nor the landscape as both can be fragile... I’m not a Jeep owner yet, perhaps this coming year as there are a lot of things going on in my wife’s and my life presently. Good things come to those that are patient.
Teamwork makes the dream work! What an effort - you all earned that Dairy Queen and then some. Because you are you... pretending I did not see you eat a Slim Jim... THANK YOU for the support!
Reminds me of one year the club I belonged to volunteered to help clean up the beach at the local state park after the lake flooded. Some of the waterlogged trees took 8 jeeps with lockers to move them!
Once again nice video Chris. Good luck on getting ready for your departure. Cannot wait to see your next video. Great advertisement for Greenworks cordless chainsaws !! LOL .. I really think I am going to buy one.
Great story. I am in Virginia. I will have to try and find that campground. Did not know about it. I have been on that road, with the the turn, on my motorcycle. The river livery guys ferry rafters on that road. They carry the rafters down there in school buses. I don't know how they do it.
Great episode Chris!! Glad you didn't get hurt with that tight turn, close one. Looking forward to you heading out west, it's warmer out here that's for sure. Going to try the Philly cheese steak recipe on the skottle, looks good. Thanks again for sharing.
I take float trip all the time and take out across from army camp. There was a really nice primative sites right up the river from you. Great videos! I was up about 30 min away same day that you was at the gorge bridge.
I thought that street looked familiar so I looked it up. The big gunfight in the movie Matewan was shot right there on the tracks in Thurmond. Great movie.
Another awesome adventure. Thank you for sharing. Your friends had some awesome rigs. I would have loved if you did a bit more walk around and hear what each of their setups were. Likes and dislikes. What they would do different. Some of those trailers looked awesome.
Back in 86 & 89 I went wit my Cave club to Bridge day. We rappelled off the bridge (300ft level as we did not have a 900ft rope). It was an amazing thing to hang under the bridge on a string. After rappelling, ascending then a second rappel I caught a lift up with a few BASE Jumpers. We discussed risk and danger.. (I had parachuted at a jump school a couple of time the year before). They said I was crazy.. I asked them why am I the crazy one? they said: You only have one rope.. we have 2 chutes.. I have never forgotten that exchange. Everyone measures risk and danger in different ways..
Awesome.. love seeing places like that! "Thurmond is a town in Fayette County, West Virginia, United States, on the New River. The population was five at the 2010 census" - Wikipedia
Great video again! I see you are cooking more than just grilled cheese. :) Also your wheeling style is the same as mine, slow and steady. It drives me insane when I see someone hammering through a trail. I'm not a Jeep guy but yours looks fantastic and I love the Ursa Miner on top and no ridiculous LED light bars all over the place. Safe travels.
Thanks. I'm looking at an AT habitat roof tent which is a kit you have to fit yourself. I'm looking to use it as an overland camper that can go pretty much anywhere like yours
Great video! There's a jeep towing a teardrop trailer in your group, and I was wondering if you knew what kind it was? Thanks for many hours of entertaining, and informative vids!
23:31 Next time, you will want to remove the tree. Going off trail just widens the trail, causing damage and erosion. Always carry a saw. Axes are optional.
Chris, one of your best vids to date, but we really have to have a chat about your nutrition. Jesus God dude, you're like the poster child of processed corporate garbage food. You have the gift (and the curse) of a physique that obviously does not put on weight, but eating that stuff will affect more than just your body. It really affects your gut flora, which has a tremendous impact on your general well-being, everything from mood swings to the quality of your sleep. Real food brother and I'm not talking about Whole Foods. You have the freedom to really explore back country farms, coops and farmer's markets to get some locally-grown goodness. Throw some farm butter or xv olive oil on that skottle and cook up some fresh veggies and starches not smothered in pesticides and locally-raised grass-fed meats and you'll taste what I'm talking about. I'm only writing because I'm really beginning to understand the vibe and cadence of your overland lifestyle and I find it very soothing and rhythmic. It has a real zen quality to it. But then you throw down a slim-jim and all I can say is, "WTF did he just eat?!" :)
Oh Peter... if you could have heard/seen my reaction to seeing him with that Slim Jim... I'm on it! We are re-connecting soon and he really enjoys eating well, so it should be just having someone traveling alongside who loves to cook and eat local. After a decade of life in Vermont I can't even shop in regular stores, of course I use to lived down the street from Pete's Green's Market in Waterbury (#spoiled) Thank you for calling him out! LOL Hope to meet you soon. Cheers!
Thx so much Jennifer. You're not going to believe this, but I almost said in my post, "Just eat the way Jennifer does!" If you recall, I posted in one of the vids Chris did with you that his mood was noticeably more positive. In fact, it looked like he was "glowing" a little bit. That's what comes from eating real food for sure. Thx for the reply!
I've thought the same, Peter. Whew, Chris eats more forms of cheese and bread than anyone I've ever seen. Pasta, cheese, then bread, cheese, then cheese and cheese, then Cheetos and cheese.... no harm meant Chris, but man, eat some "Woman Food®" occasionally. That means vegetables.
Be prepared for two extra hugs when that time comes, Monty and I will be re-joining Chris in a week to head out as well. Excited to thank you and so many others in-person soon. Thank you for ALL your support!
Have you thought about a rap round awning. Like a foxwing, one of the best investments I have ever made, its fantastic for living out the car. Grea for bot rain and hot days. just a thought.
Highlighted reply Jennifer Langille. for sure, I'd say the same for getting myself a Wrangler too. Today I visited a 4x4 Expo show (in the UK) I've got some great pictures to put up on Instagram. How is your Monty doing?
Cool video, really cool seeing the new river gorge, it reminded me of when I was there in 2014 on a high adventure scout trip for a week. Do you ever plan or replacing the bumpers or fenders?
glad to finally see a channel that covers travels in penna., west va., maryland, virg. keep traveling and posting. would support you if you started a patreon account. carl- south park, pa
Hi Patricia - he actually DOES have one, check-out: www.patreon.com/venture4wd I can attest to his consistency and dedication to his pattern supporters.
Hey Chris - started following you for a few weeks now and trying to catch up for the beginning. Enjoying the real content here and respect the commitment. Thanks for sharing it all. Curious did you install the Ursa Minor Pop Up yourself or have a third party do it?
You should not have to go outside and climb up to finish closing latch a RTT that is accessible from inside the Jeep. Do you have to go outside to open it?
@@MasonWebster Just look it up and I was stunned and baffled by the cost of it. Just wow! I guess my dream is gone. lol! No way I will ever be able to afford that. Heck you can buy a brand new Honda Civic for that price! Well maybe not brand new but definitely can a 2019 version and guess what? It comes with an engine! lol!
@@MasonWebster It is between 7,450.00 to 14,700.00 dollars, I'm guessing it will be 14,700.00 since that one has everything or things you really need with it. Here is the link ursaminorvehicles dot com and look under Jeep, you'll see it there. :)
I'm excited for Chris to respond to this one, he taught me how to use mine whenever I'm in 2WL and its night and day in the comfort level and ease of handling.
I'm preparing to make a first-ever trip to southwestern Colorado in June. I really like your propane wok but have been unable to find where to find one like yours, even w/ a Google search. Could you please tell me where you bought it? Thanks!
Chris come on out to Michigan. In April on the 20th, 21st and 22nd there is a large gathering of Jeep doing Jeep the Mac. There are trying to get 1000+ Jeeps this year. Here is the link.. www.visitdrummondisland.com/jeep-the-mac.html
please make the videos shorter. youre deterring new people like myself. i dont want to see everything youre doing this is more like a diary than a video
Rilley Wilson So what if it is a diary? It’s his diary, not yours. If the videos are too long for you, watch it in 3 minute intervals. Nobody said you had to watch it all at once. Besides, UA-cam’s algorithm favors longer watch times.
It is 100% ok you are not into it, I personally have watched every single one of his episodes and have never once wished they were shorter. Thank you Chris for sharing your journey with us.
Your in my neck of the wood's! Wild & Wonderful:) Isn't the gorge amazing....so ancient! Thank's again for sharing.

Thank-you for the iphone 8 content, giving a 720p option. Us folk with older laptops have lag on 720p60 and above and have to default to 480p :-)
Some great trails!
Completely agree with your driving style. Too many trails here in Colorado have been closed because of erosion and ruts due to aggressive driving.
Chris, LOL, you went to meet those overlanders to see their delicious grub! And you knew they would invite you!! You are slick. Great video.
Great video. Glad you did not roll into the storm drain. Safe travels.

Great video :). You need some LT Wright Knives in that Jeep my man!
"This is almost kicked." I hear ya man... I hear ya.
excellent video ... what are those handle- like things on the door hinges?
They are these incredible folding "steps" to access the roof area, Chris has a rack that fits his kayak in the summer months.

Brent Colflesh ???
Sixteen Candles?
Automobile? What automobile?
I love that line!
Did anyone else notice that at 7:38 his blinker and the jeep in front where in sync? Maybe its just me...
Started on video #1 two days ago. I'm binge-a-thon mode right now.
You shorted yourself on pepperoni by about 10 slices. Gotta load it up!
Love your videos! Gives me inspiration for my build! When are you adding a winch?
I keep asking him the same question... winch... when.. ;)
Jennifer Langille I use the Harbor Freight winches Alot! They are cheap and work well.
Good stuff

How is your Monty doing?
There's some tool you can buy (I think the Amish use it) to refill those mini propane tanks off of a larger propane tank.
Good ad for that chainsaw.

how do you seal your roof tent to the JK roof?
martinbguk it's an Ursa Minor J30 camper top. Replaces the standard Jeep hard top with a pop-up tent you see on Chris's Jeep.
