Ethan after watching about 300 videos on music production, I can definitely say that you are at the top 3 tutors, to make something simple for others to understand.
Ive been trying to learn Ableton for years. I don't know what it is about your teaching style but everything just clicks. Really love your teaching style!
bro im nine minutes in and you are single handedly teaching me how to make beats in ableton after floundering around for years. Your saying everything i need and nothing that i dont cheers
3 videos later and you convinced me I can produce music, something I just thing of the other day. May sound naive, but that's how professional and intuitive you have been on your clips (except the music theory one but I'm just clueless)
I thought you seemed rather pretentious at first, but then I realized that you are a very skilled teacher and music producer. I’ve never learned through a “chill” teacher in my 16 years in culinary. So I appreciate your directness and focus, and you talking to me like I am ignorant… because I was, but now I can transition from garage band and BandLab on iphone to Ableton live seamlessly. I took many notes and working on my new ep. Thank you for being cocky and good. Also for free. Jesus.
I've discovered your channel only few days ago and I bet you must be very soon in the top recommended producers on UA-cam. It's a true pleasure, your content is very relevant and dense, always inspiring and you do it in a very humble and genuine way. It also invited to discover your music universe. Many thanks.
I have learnt production 3 years ago. But now I am checking out your videos as I haven't produced anything in the last 3 years. This is really helpful. Many thanks
Awesome stuff man! I am a Video Producer and Animator (25 years) and I also play a bunch of instruments. I've used ableton (since it came out) and I've learned more by watching this tutorial than I have in the entire time I've used the software. I've only ever used it as an acoustic/organic composer, or whatever you want to call it, and never knew about all of the shortcuts and just the basics of this style of composing. I have more and more clients wanting me to compose music for their commercials and the like and it had grown tiresome to record me playing live and then tweaking everything after the fact. This really helped. Thank you!
Hey Ethan this is very helpful in the exact spot where you are new to ableton and maybe know how to make a drum pattern but you dont know what to do next - im in this position right now and this exactly shows the progression. thank you!
hey this is actually really helpful. i am a MTP Student and ableton is a DAW that we need and your tutorial really helps. thanks man will watch more of your content! ❤
You are such a rockstar, dude. Thanks again so much for this amazing information. You are making the Ableton learning curve much less steep for me and I am here for it! lol
Wow after spending hundreds on courses and feeling overwhelmed and quitting a couple of times, your UA-cam video really helped me understand the process a whole lot better!!!! I might win a Grammy now 🤣 I appreciate you fam, Subscribed!!!!!
About starting with drums: when I used to just make beats with my acoustic guitar, I figured out the best way was to record guitar then lay some drum pattern. Then delete the guitar and sort the drums out better, then re-record the guitar. Anyways I just realized that same technique might work for starting with synth etc. Youre still really starting the track from the drums, but the drums can be written from the instruments…
Omg this is such a fun and amazing video!! Not only is it so informative and helpful, but it’s also so fun to see the creative process!! Can’t wait to do this once I get back home to my equipment!! Thank you!!!!
I was stuck at first cause I couldnt seem to get to the screen you started on but found it by going to Navigate (above the metronome) and selecting Arrangement view. I just dont know how to make that screen the default opening screen as what looks on your program, but thats not an issue. Thank you for the video!! Tremendously helpful!
Been watching your videos for the past week and I’m surprised how much I’ve improved in production. You are straight to the point without over and under explaining. Great work 💯
Brooo thank you so much for this video. I have tried different methods to make a beat, and yours was definitely the best. I made an insane beat right away!! thank you!1
I am sold, I am a photographer, graphic designer, motion designer, videographer learning music, do i have a problem?? 🤣🤣🤣 But yeah, this tutorial got me in Ableton first.
Thanks for sharing this video. It was super inspiring. I've been wanting to create beats and music with a similar vibe, but I don't know where to start. 💎
Ethan I’m new to this whole space and your videos are incredibly helpful. I’m wondering if you’d ever want to post a video running through your favorite or most used plugins. Ableton does have plenty of good options but I just don’t know where to start when it comes to plug ins, especially for vocals
I have gone through lots of video tutorials tired so many time fail fail fail but after watching your video i literally produce a song damnnn thank you so much love it Sub and like for my side 🎉
Thank you. I'm new to Ableton and beat making. This was one of the best tutorials on Ableton I've seen. I'll definitely be checking out your course. Keep up the great work. You just got yourself a new subscriber, lol.
i dont speak perfect English, but you explain it really damn well, and i like the way you teach. thank you again! iam paraplegic and now i can make musik with my healthy right hand on my pc😂 God bless you Ethan Davis!
Hi you mention to use drive or saturation to bring out more harmonics in the bass, so it helps it to be heard on smaller speakers.....does that also work on the kick...as I'm having a lot of trouble to get my kick to come through on my phone speaker...sometimes it just doesn't sound like it's there at all, while other times its just a clicky sound....🤯
I'm coming from FL Studio and this way of working is so different. It looks more like using Audacity just dragging waveforms to create your beat. The session view is also convusing. Have to watch a view more tutorials i guess. I hope I made the right choice switching to Ableton.
I’ve used maschine for 10 years. I’ve used FL a bit, but decided to get the trial of ableton. My first 1 hour of tutorials I was confused - now I’m not. You made the right choice switching, now make the right choice sticking it out!
@Ethan Davis I don't understand how you make the B Bass go along with the kick. Your first kick starts at 1.1, your second at 2.2. Yet both bars for the B Bass start at x.1. If I do that then my second bass plays before the second kick. The only way I get it to work is by shifting the second bass to also start at 2.2 (which is something you clearly do not do)... So what am I missing here? Thanks in advance.
Great video man ,i just have some questions. Do you not put +6db on the master to allow headroom when mixing down? Do you not low cut on the reverb to prevent muddiness and does it matter the order of eq and reverb? Thank you for the video man
I’ve been bench watching most of your content for a few hours today, and find them to be very inspiring and encouraging. So thank you. I’m guilty of procrastinating for some time now, and just need to get my music out rather than get buried on my hard drive. Quick question: Do you have to convert midi to waveform after mixing them?
Hey Ethan, first of all, Thank you very much... I've seen many of your videos and they have been very helpful. Are you familiar with Ableton Push 3? It would be super cool if you dropped some knowledge on the workflow as standalone/Plugged-in to Live. Blessings. - Juan Dones
sorry i have a problem, i can't drop a kick or a drum into an audio track only into a midi. i have my midi not connected though, because i'd like to experiment a bit in ableton without a midi first. what could be the problem?
6:54 you added the "dressing up stuff" to the hi hat duplicate layer but I didn't see you clicking untying to draw it in. maybe you used the keys to play those notes? idk. you didn't say.
Do you mix your final version with your headphones mostly? What is the difference between Audeze and other headphones? I need to work with headphones for a while, it's a dilemma to pick a good one that will get me an accurate result, thank you!
Ive tried everything and looked everywhere online but noon else seems to have this problem I can't make any beats if I can't drag sounds onto my tracks
If you highlight the section u want to copy and paste and hit control+D it will automatically copy and paste idk if ur having the same struggle I was but that was my issue, you can use that in piano roll to if u do control+a and then control+D you can copy all notes then move them around
Hey Ethan,If you had course i would buy, my girlfriend is a singer, tryna produce for her, but I don't know much about producing , I do play the piano though
Hello, when I use sound trap, I feel like I’m accomplishing what I want to with the beat I’m making but at times don’t feel like it makes sense and get frustrated. Thinking about making the switch to ableton but still unsure
i downloaded a 30 day free trial for ableton but for some reason when I go to drag and drop a sound it just doesn't show up I don't know what I'm doing wrong
Ethan after watching about 300 videos on music production, I can definitely say that you are at the top 3 tutors, to make something simple for others to understand.
hey there...! I wonder if you would like to share your top 3? 😊
Totally agree, after stumbling on this channel today. 👍🏾
Also curious if you can share the other two as well
I cant agree more
@@FrancisKnoni-mb8hm For me the other top two would be Taetro and Beat Academy
Ive been trying to learn Ableton for years. I don't know what it is about your teaching style but everything just clicks. Really love your teaching style!
Really, coz its very basic....
I can't believe you posted this 3 months ago...Nobody is doing tutorials on Live 9 these days! You've cornered a market. I'm subbing. 💯
bro im nine minutes in and you are single handedly teaching me how to make beats in ableton after floundering around for years. Your saying everything i need and nothing that i dont cheers
love to hear that!!
3 videos later and you convinced me I can produce music, something I just thing of the other day. May sound naive, but that's how professional and intuitive you have been on your clips (except the music theory one but I'm just clueless)
bro you are a magician literally solved my creative and the problem which am getting in producing
thanks so much

bro i wish i had this in 2020 before i gave up, this was the best ableton beginner tutorial ever
Pretty chill video. I have used Abelton for 20 years.
Best tutorial video I've ever seen.
Very useful tips throughout the video. Thanks!
You are such a rockstar, dude. Thanks again so much for this amazing information. You are making the Ableton learning curve much less steep for me and I am here for it! lol
I wanted to learn how to make a chill simple beat that also didn't sound dumb and your video helped me learn just that lol thanksss!
Wow after spending hundreds on courses and feeling overwhelmed and quitting a couple of times, your UA-cam video really helped me understand the process a whole lot better!!!! I might win a Grammy now 🤣 I appreciate you fam, Subscribed!!!!!

this showed me that there's a lot I still don't know but indeed, its not rocket science. thanks for the upload.
Thank you Ethan🙏🏻🙏🏻
Been watching your videos for the past week and I’m surprised how much I’ve improved in production. You are straight to the point without over and under explaining. Great work 💯

4:54 you did something to the snare that you layered. didn't say what you did, but you like made a slope diagonal.
17:34 ... they're faders. go figure. lol
thanks bro these videos are good
Very helpful, thank you!
Thank you 🙏🏾🖤
Thanks 🙏 💜🦄
Bro, these step-by-step videos from Ethan are really helpful.
Thank you for this very helpful video.
Please advice, when recording a song Do You Record The Drum In The Base guitar First Or a Guitar Or piano?
Thank you bro ❤❤❤

Can you please make a video how to make a dance song
Thanks so much for all the videos ❤
i have one called how to make a tech house song, and one called how to make a remix in Ableton. both of those are dance music and you may enjoy them!
Clean and to the point, this is much appreciated!
thank u for this video

i switched from FL like 12 years ago and it was so worth it! you made the right choice

Hi! any idea why my playback only plays the first track?
roxanne, roxanne!
Thank u so much
Yesss

you addressed the above comment at 9:22 :)
Bro I want a perfect vedio on how to used Ableton Live for begginers...
whenever I drag any kind of sound onto a track nothing happens, do you have any suggestions?
Do you mix your final version with your headphones mostly? What is the difference between Audeze and other headphones? I need to work with headphones for a while, it's a dilemma to pick a good one that will get me an accurate result, thank you!
🔥🔥🔥
can these tips be used if i’m not trying to make a trap type beat?
Absolutely! And I have many videos for other styles of music as well
Ive tried everything and looked everywhere online but noon else seems to have this problem I can't make any beats if I can't drag sounds onto my tracks
Me tho bro so fucking annoying
if you used midi for the kick and clap wouldn't it still sound the same?
in theory yes! i just drag stuff in because that's what I prefer, but you can use midi too if you enjoy it more
Does copy and paste just not work sometimes for some people? I had to manually copy and paste each individual segment, really slows the process down
If you highlight the section u want to copy and paste and hit control+D it will automatically copy and paste idk if ur having the same struggle I was but that was my issue, you can use that in piano roll to if u do control+a and then control+D you can copy all notes then move them around
Hey Ethan,If you had course i would buy, my girlfriend is a singer, tryna produce for her, but I don't know much about producing , I do play the piano though
my bad, you have one, see you there
Hello, when I use sound trap, I feel like I’m accomplishing what I want to with the beat I’m making but at times don’t feel like it makes sense and get frustrated. Thinking about making the switch to ableton but still unsure
why cant i drag anything onto the timeline? ( and does ithave anything to do with selecting amp upon install??)
ty
You’re the man bro. Thanks for these videos. Awesomeness
this is great Ethan! thank you!
i downloaded a 30 day free trial for ableton but for some reason when I go to drag and drop a sound it just doesn't show up I don't know what I'm doing wrong
Can I make a remix just with a beat?
