So about numbers, it's kinda weird:
If there is a clash - it shows clash numbers.
If it's one-sided attack - it shows damage numbers.

Edit: I somehow paused and made this comment literally 2 seconds before you commented on thsi
Something I love about this arc is the setting-- it kinda explains something that wasn't really explained in Ruina. In Ruina, we learn about a mountainous region that the 8 o'clock Circus had gone and made their home-- but we never really knew WHERE that could be, since the city was, well... THE CITY.
But now we know that Nests aren't just "A better kept urban sprawl". Nests aren't just better backstreets. It's an entirely different world, with urban environments, countryside, villages-- Nests are completely different and separate from the Backstreets outside of them.
The idea that Nests are large and orderly enough to have entire county sides with villages totally isolated from the main urban centers in them is crazy.

Overclocking EGO is essentially a way to force-activate the corrosion effect that happens at -45 sanity where they break down and target randomly. If you have enough resources (1.5x base cost) you can do a STABLE overclock, which does all of the corrosion effects but does NOT target indiscriminately.
If you do NOT have enough resources, or the sinner’s sanity isn’t high enough, they’ll perform the indiscriminate corrosion as usual.

ngl while i love sinclair he's far from my favorite sinner, so seeing this chapter from the perspective of someone who actually likes him much more than me is... interesting, to say the least, also that scene with the prosthetic heads singing silent night is incredibly haunting, i forgot how uncomfortable it felt to watch it for the first time
also, at 1:05:32 a common theory is that since K corp's thing is healing wounds in organic tissue (from what we know about hp bullets from lobcorp at least), their singularity doesn't work that well in prosthetics, so in a way the prosthetics industry from calw can be seen as their competition despite being part of their nest

People overstate the difficulty of Canto 3, because the spike was traumatic when it first happened. There weren't a lot of blunt-based IDs, and the level cap was lower. Max uptie was 3. Early IDs were also weaker, power creep is a thing that happens in this game (not to an exaggerated degree, but new IDs tend to be much stronger than old ones). Team combinations were much more scarcer, too. This all led to some battles requiring several attempts to clear, which traumatized many of us. I was stuck on the fight against Guido for at least a couple of weeks.
Nowadays, with the current IDs, the higher level caps and upties, the more EGOs at our disposal and with the means to level up quickly with the higher quality training tickets, the bump in difficulty is still noticeable, but it's no longer the wall it used to be.

Since this is were minus coins become prevalent, I figure I should explain them since the game doesn't really. Some skills have coins that subtract from the total instead of add on heads hit, meaning flipping tails is how they stay strong. This sounds crappy, but in practice makes for much stronger clashing and damage potential. Here's an example:
Let's say an inquisitor has a skill with base power 16 and 3 coins that subtract 5. When he clashes, he flips 3 heads, giving him a 1 and he loses. On the next clash, he only has 2 minus coins left so his chance at winning that clash is actually higher now instead of lower like with plus coins. Minus coins have more chances to clash at their full power, being their base power, and actually get better clashes as they lose. Not only that, they also have higher potential damage. Compare these 2 skills at their full potential.
    Base power 1, 3 coins, plus 5 means 6+11+16= 33 total damage.
Base power 16, 3 coins, minus 5 deals 16 on every hit from the beginning, 16-0-0=48.
So in conclusion, minus coins used by the enemies are damn annoying.

Now you know why Vergilius is a Color with a moniker called "The Red Gaze". Back in Library of Ruina, there was a conversation between Roland and Gebura about 'who's the current strongest fixer in the city', to which Roland gave several answers and explained that the question is prone to starting barfights among the fixer community. But when Gebura rephrased her question to "who is the 'most dangerous' fixer in the city." Roland gave only one answer: Vergilius. @otherevan296 8 місяців тому

I'd say Yi Sang's support passive is pretty good, considering you consistently get enough Glut Res to activate it every other Eva- ahem, every other turn. I gotta mention as well, Yi Sang was saved a few times by his Combat Passive (on 4 Gluttony Res, he reduces his target's Skills' Power by 2, making clashing easier), when he was clashing, in case you didn't catch it, tho I'm confident you did~
Since you're paying attention to levels, I say this might be a good place to discuss, drumroll pls, "Offense Levels!" They're the number shown on the Clashing Forecast beside a small sword icon. They're pretty important for the clashing system; it makes sure that newly pulled lvl 1 IDs don't just steam roll through because of how modernized their kit is.
The way it works, for every three (3) points of Offense Level a unit is higher compared to its clashing target, its skill gains one (1) Clash Power (like 7 Assoc. Yi Sang's Support Passive). Offense Level in its current version normally follows a unit's level... Except some IDs (and EGOs too) modify it, sometimes for better or worse.
I'll take Lantern Don as an example. Her first 2 skills have an Offense Level "modifier" (as I like to call them) of negative 1 (-1). If she was at Lvl 20, her Skill 1 and 2's Offense Levels would be at nineteen (19 aka 20 minus 1). This would become problematic if you brought her in against Lvl 25 Inquisitors who have Offense Levels of 25. The difference between their Offense Levels is 6, meaning they'd gain 2 Clash Power against Don (if they'd roll 6, they'd roll an 8, winning against Don's Skill 1 if she fails to land heads).
Another example i could cite is Magic Bullet Outis, who has an Offense Level modifier of +3 on her Skill 1 & 2, and +5 for her skill 3. As long as she's levelled up properly, she would normally gain an extra point of Clash Power against most enemies. Not to mention her Skill 2, when paired with a burn team, can roll as high as 20 before Offense Level Clash Power is applied.
What's most important isn't necessarily to stack up Offense Level to gain Clash Power, tho it is pretty damn nice, it's more important to make sure you aren't letting your enemies outlevel you too hard, cuz when they gain a whole lot of Offense Level, they can make clashing almost impossible outside of EGO attacks. This is most prominently shown in the current Mirror Dungeon 3 Hard Mode, where enemies gain more levels on deeper floors, making it so Clashing with them gets harder and harder, simulating a difficulty curve.
    TL;DR:
    • Offense Level mostly follows an unit's lvl, stay properly lvled up. Some skills have reduced or increased OL.
    • Every 3 OL = 1 Clash Power/Yi Sang Support Passive.
    • make sure to not let you enemies outstrip you too much in terms of Offense Level. Keep the playing field even.
Notes: Base Faust's Support Passive that activates with Pride Res (Dark Blue) allows you to inflict Offense Level Down, which reduces enemy offense level.

Skill power and coins are used for both clashing and damage. When clashing, a "clash power" modifier is also factored, and differences between your sinners and the targets level will shift clash power by 1 for every 3 levels difference. "Final power" modifiers are less common, and factor into damage but not clash. The "favored", "struggling" and so forth are predictions for how likely the first coin is to succeed. Take it with a grain of salt, as a multi-coin skill contesting a single coin skill with low base power and high coin power is likely to eventually be won by the multi-coin skill. As for the attack itself, each coin is one attack, so multi-coin attacks will deal far more damage than single-coin attacks with the same final power.

Just a reminder (probably unnecessary but still) when the overclock symbol shows on red on the skill slot and you hear a warning sound of sorts it means the overclocked sinner will most likely go berserk and target indiscriminately. This happens because overclock doubles the resource intake of the ego skill and either there are not enough resources or the sinners sanity is not enough sending those numbers into the negatives. If the symbol shows orange though, the ego skill should target correctly.

26:37 it shows clash rolls when clashing and shows damage numbers when the attack is unopposed (or you are attacking a defensive skill unless it's Dodge - then it will show clash values of only ONE coin of your skill)
29:54 it's better to save these up so that could craft IDs later... Well unless these are Meursault shards, all of his IDs are very underwhelming without a certain EGO

    • @aceisawesome_
      @aceisawesome_ 8 місяців тому

it implies it, but it's not necessarily that she's older, just that she's comfortable enough with him to address him in a more casual way, which makes sense for Don's character. I was actually more surprised when she didn't use an honorific for a different character at a point in canto 4, bc it was a jarring change to how she usually addressed other sinners lol

If you happen to pull N-corp Sinclair, I'd recommend using that when you fight Kromer in this Canto. Heck, if you pull it later, come back and redo the fight with it. It's an interesting interaction and we can only hope more such show up later.

25:50 Imo, when choosing engagements, I'd generally only go for Favored or Dominating ones. (unless you *really* have to bet it on a neutral one)
For all the others, just defend - especially in human encounters, you are gonna pay for giving them sanity by losing those early clashes.
Of course, there are some outliers, where the prediction can be misleading, but it's usually pretty trustworthy.

Welcome to Trauma Town! Population: Sinclair. Buckle up, cause things only get worse from here.
LCCB Ishy was my favourite ID on release, she still has the fastest Tremor and Rupture stacking in the game and has some incredible debuff support capabilities(Especially those 5 Fragile on her 3rd), but Tremor is only useful if you have two specific other IDs, her clashing is very bad, and she's too slow for her same-turn debuffs to really matter most of the time. Very sad but i still love her.
17:50 Based on the Trailer and Intro Cinematic I'm pretty sure the forest at the start was actually in D Corp's district, and also The City is around the size of Belgium, so yes, it's really more of a country than just a city. (And based on fan speculation around the insane population size The City we see on the map is probably just a small part of it, the rest could be either underground or in a pocket dimension created with Z Corp's possible singularity since we've never seen where their District is on any map)
26:26 Those ARE actually the Clash numbers/Rolls, just not the base rolls, those numbers indicate the Minimum and Maximum possible Rolls with Offense Level and other bonuses and debuffs taken into account, to get the true base rolls you have to calculate the Skill's Base and Coins yourself (They're also displayed up there).
1:48:56 There's actually specific Seasonal IDs which put our sinners in the roles of characters in the Cantos, for N Corp: Rodya is a regular N Corp grunt, Don Quixote is one of the bigger grunts with the hammers, and there's one for Guido too that you haven't gotten yet, every Canto has Seasonal IDs except 1 and 2 i think since any IDs based on characters in those are considered launch IDs.
We're getting into the serious meat of the story now, and I'm incredibly excited to watch you experience it!
