- I just discovered a window in the hallway outside my apartment door, and decided to check to see if the screen was loose. It was.
My home is in a super safe neighborhood, and all of my housemates are safe and things are wonderful here. However, a couple years ago, I discovered a squatter hiding in our basement at 3am. That was weird. This was also weird. - Розваги

Squatters are people who have for one reason or another decided to move into a place without permission and try to claim it and live there as long as they can. SOME, like BOI says, are probably harmless, they're just trying to get in from the cold. Trying to find a safe place to sleep. Some can be very dangerous if you challenge them. Most of the time squatters only move into empty or abandoned places. But this thing with the basement is really very weird. Creepy and dangerous. You don't know if they are on or coming off of meth or other mind altering drugs. etc. Anyway, not always harmless not always dangerous.

I used to live in a house with a pitched roof and what i thought was no attic (usable one anyways) There was a hall closet on the second floor with a little removable piece of drywall in the back. When you took it off it just looked like a little storage area. I decided to go in one day and upon turning right noticed that there were planks leading to a then unknown about attic. Me and my brother played hide and seek with my sister one day and got up there. Every time she would walk through the hallway we'd whisper through a fan in the hallway. It's one of my favorite childhood memories.

nonsense, it happens all the time. I had a door in my house which I hadn't really payed any attention to for the 7 years I'd lived there. There were several old rifles and ammunition back there, but no sign that anyone had lived there.

Bruce Wayne Real estate agents just want everything obvious to look in order. That's often the reason why basements or attics are still dirty and or full of junk. And look in EVERY room? Perhaps someone paranoid or lacking skill in construction would check everywhere, but most people don't.

My house has a secret room too. It's got like a fridge and a stove and cupboards and a microwave and stuff in it. Hard to be sure, but I think people sneak in there and cook stuff because sometimes I smell bacon. It's scary as.

I totally get how you might ignore something like this when you rent. Houses can be divided up in strange ways for tenants. Landlords can rightfully wall off areas they want as storage and if you know what space is being rented, you'd probably be content not to rip out a random door ( an unsatisfying way to lose a security deposit) just so you can settle your curiosity. It might be worth calling the property owner and asking about it before you take a chisel to the hinges.

The window is completely behind you when you walk in, and you can't tell in the video, but it's actually really high up/out of your line of vision when you walk out. You spend a grand total of 3 seconds in that room when stepping in or out. The door to the first floor is located in a recess by the stairs where you can't see that window. Also, that's the BACK door. We always used the front door. I love that Steve comes off as a space case, but it's plausible/legit. Never noticed it myself!

Regardless of how long it was before you noticed the window, landlords are not allowed to store anything at a rented property while there are tenants living there. My daughter and son-in-law had the same issue with their housing association storing a previous tenant's belongings in their closets and leaving them with no storage space. Also, it's illegal for landlords to enter a property without the tenant's knowledge and agreement. As soon as the landlord said he had been sleeping in there, you should have packed your stuff and left, citing the tenancy agreement null-and-void.
