thank you very much for this tutorial . you're doing amazing job . please upload more quick lesson like this. the character looks good and give motivation to make one like this on my one.
@daniel gies this is literally the perfect tutorial!! Would love to see this series through to the end! Do you mind if I ask for some tutorials for the future? 1: A long time ago you used to go into the character parts and make the composition smaller before rigging? If this is something you still do, could you do a video showing how you do it? 2: showing this same tutorial but with puppet pins instead of separated body parts would also be amazing!! Showing simply, adding pins - names pins - converting to bones? 3: showing how to create a transition from, side - 3/4 - front facing view easily? No need to show how the art was made ( using the same character for the whole series would help ALOT of people ) 4: showing how you create a head rotation, if your still using free form, don’t go into too much detail about how to create the head but just the basics of setting it up I.e. Download free form, put your head layers into their own composition, click the main head and open free form, bend the sides around, if you need more squares to change the shape click this- move the ears backwards, hair in a 3D plane etc, I think also trying to use the add on joysticks and sliders would also help a lot of people, as coding takes a lot of time... I have a lot more suggestions, but creating these videos in the exact style your using now. With the exact same character every time will be so amazing!
Thanks, the new alpha version includes a procedurally generated walk cycle(!) which is going to be a huge time saver. Would be great to see a video covering that please
dear Daniel, i just want to ask you a little favour. Your tutorials are supergreat... i just wonder if you may sometimes give for free some simple simple characters or files to follow your tut better? of course i'm not asking for something superprofessional... in this example just a super simple character to follow this tutorial. It would be a great starting point for me.
I always have one problem in autorig, am not able to set the Main control Null so that I can move the whole rig with just one null. Even if I parent the pelvis control to the Main Null, it doesn't work. This video ends where my problem starts. Also, please make a short turnaround rig tutorial (3/4, side, front) soon in a similar fashion. hope you show me the light soon :)
We will look into it and get you an answer to that problem. I have had this problem before also and I can't remember how I solved it. Thanks for the comments and feedback!
Really nice tutorial Daniel, thank you . So i,ve been using Duik for a while now and i'm just wondering is there any way to bind my joints so that when i stretch it it doesn't separate. kinda like if the fore arm, arm and hand were one shape? ive been looking everywhere for this answer .
kindly Marc i don't see it under effects control. All there is Ik orientation box and something called Goal and at what point in the rigging should i do this, before or after i apply duik? Thanks so much for helping by the way.
Really Cool, thanks for posting this! One thing I'm curious though - the performance seems quite slow when you drag the end effectors around. I have tried rigging up a PSD with all the layers in the manner you have outlined here, as well as rigging up the same character using separate png files (one each for the leg, shin, foot, etc). I found that the performance was drastically improved with the separate files VS the PSD. It took longer though, as I had to align each part. Do you have any experience with this, or could I be doing something wrong with the import? I tried it so many times in different ways, and always the performance was a lot slower than importing the pieces as separate pngs. Thanks, love your work! -Simon
Hi i cant get Duik to install on my mac. in after effects I got the error "Opps! Something went wrong. Duik can not fin pseudo effects." does anyone know what this means
Could you post the files you used in the tutorial please? I have a feeling I'm missing a few pieces, and my hips aren't connecting to my thighs :\ Great tutorial btw!
May I suggest you change your audio rig in future videos? The reverberation makes it difficult to understand your words at times. You sound like you recorded the audio in a hotel exhibition room.
Just The Facts, exactly that. I like it. Great content and super concise. Please keep them coming!
So. Simple. Compact. Perfect. Tutorial. Awesome.

Excelent! I was expecting for a video like that from you for a while! I'm looking forward for futures 'Just The Facts'!

Sir please make a briff video on that
Is it tolerable to have so much lag (I guess because of IK)? Is it noticeable during the animation?
4:37 as u can see its making ur pc slow, is there a way to make it more smooth?
Actually his pc is pretty good it depends on your pc render capability per seconds
ty :)

I believe you have to select the item, go to effect controls and under stretch menu, un/check the box - if I remember it correctly :)

Hi Dan, do you have a set of reference templates you use for any of your characters?

Just the facts, except literally not even showing how to set up the character and immediately go into renaming layers?
Tin foil seal. I really hate that.
