  • In this Friday episode, Patrick and Stuart take a tour of an amazing 18th century French chateau that is for sale in their area. This chateau on 96 acres of land, which is just down the road from Château de Colombe, was of interest to friends Denise and Brett ‪@Chateau_de_Londigny‬ who were visiting for the weekend from Australia and looking for their own French chateau. Also joining the tour are good friends Tony and Jane. Stuart also gives a progress update and tour of their chateau potager (kitchen garden) as well as showing the development of some of their fruit trees.
    Channels mentioned in this episode:
    ‪@Chateau_de_Londigny‬
Join Patrick and Stuart on their journey to find a neglected, forgotten, or crumbling château or castle in France, and then continue to follow them as they work on its restoration, rénovation, decoration, and furnishing. Along the way, they will also create and share videos on their preparation for having gîtes for guests, and an event venue in their chateau (wedding, birthday, anniversary, organization or club meetings, retreats, etc.).

I actuality saw you and Stuart's taste in that chateau and I honestly envisioned myself living there. Oh, that was a nice thought from my pain.
    I love your garden.
You are absolutely right about donkeys shouldn't tall grass. They can choke to death, I would imagine.
Patrick you still malr me laugh, thank you.
I still can't sit down and in constant pain. To add to this I also have toothpain. I see the oral surgeon tom. I have no idea how I eill tollerate the dental chair and I hope my bandage stays in place. It is a consultation first, then another appointment for extraction. Ouch!!!! $180 for consultayion. Wow!
I look forward to that recipe.
Send some healing my way. I feel like I am falling apart. My hubby is no good for helping me out with housework or gardening unfortunately. I have accepted that long ago. I try to lay down a lot to keep the pressure off. I miss a lot doing that. We are having perfect dunny spring weather.
My neighbour's wife came over and cleaned up my containers in the front of our house and planted some flowers. She made me and my spirits lift up. I very much appreciate the kindness. God continues to show me thatI am in his care. This little gesture has humbled and made me feel grateful.
I hope you get your tractor back soon with an apology. That is poor service by yhe dound of iy.
Wishing you both love and laughter with love from me.❤

Think about putting a few fruit trees in grow bags to stunt height but maximise fruit production. Great for the kitchen garden or could put in grow bags in half wine barrels. Then you can shift them about if need be.

You can rent goats to come and eat your grass. I’ve heard it on one of the chateau channels. You just stake them out and then move them to a new spot.
    Donkey food:
In the majority of cases this should be solely provided by straw, hay/haylage or restricted grazing plus a vitamin and mineral balancer. If your donkey has no dental problems, feed a diet of 75% straw in summer and 50% straw in winter. Make up the remainder of their diet with hay or haylage, or restricted grazing.

Oh I would have loved to see that chateau with you! It's a dream property isn't it? All that land! I do love your old wild roses, I have a soft spot for the old varieties, they're so pretty. I so envy you having cherries! It's probably my favourite fruit, and they just don't grow well in my climate (I'm in the Far North of New Zealand) it's just too hot and high humidity doesn't work for them, and winter isn't cold enough for them. In our South Island they do very well, so I gorge myself whenever I can get down there! Cherry pies...... Much love and big hugs xxx

Patrick, being German do you have one of the 3 tier juicing pans? I was given one by a German friend some years ago. Water goes in the bottom pan, fruit in the strainer pan on the top tier and the clear juice goes into the middle section which has a tap on it to empty the juice. It’s brilliant for making all sorts of jellies without the faff and mess of straining through muslin cloths.

Re Donkeys: I volunteer at an equine rescue. Long, lush grass like yours can be too much for donkeys as they can easily get fat! More importantly, the sugars in grasses other than hay can cause laminitis which is an extremely painful condition of their feet. They also can't eat grains. A good hay pasture will do. Now, if you want to mow down that lush field, borrow some goats. They'll do a great job. 😘

Good morning Patrick & Stuart, lovely episode - as always!! Missed quiet Angela, I am sure she enjoyed her visit tremendously. The chateaux you visited is also very well restored, it looks very spacious and the grounds are quite big. It has been well preserved especially the outside walls. Inside is gorgeous loved the wooden beams. Your garden is looking great, the wild roses in the background is stunning, the colour is great. Good to see the fruit trees coming on well and the red currents, I can see the jars on the table, like jars filled with red rubies. Loved the Dutch Irises they are well suited for the chateaux. I do envy the potato plot as the potatoes we are buying here presently is horrid. Brown marks in the centre, cannot dare use them for a baked potato you don't know what you will find inside. Do take care of them and they will reward you with an abundant crop. I have garlic sprouting so they can go into the soil shortly. Try to install t hose blinkers on the corners of the roof the reflections keep the pigeons off our buildings, I would invest in that to save the fruit. We have to remove our peach tree as the Mouse |Birds come and demolish them and for all the love and care, we can not enjoy one peach! It is cheaper to buy the fruit!! The frustration hearing them in the trees sketching and having a wonderful time is very annoying. The sound of the bird in the background was nice but I preferred the cricket that wanted himself to be heard as you were hosting the video. I wonder if he is black, they can be very noisy. I think you are too kind and too patient with those French mechanics, they are really testing your patience. The after sales service is shocking to say the least. Have a great weekend, enjoy summer. Kind regards, Elize

You're at the right place in your lives at chateau de colombe. Your chateau is gourdious as you restore it as it was. You will get lots of fruits to make jam, chutney and jelley this year. It's not really service from the garage to take so long te repair the tractor. That's how you loose clients. Patrick, you're not using the brace, does that mean you have lesser pain? Loving the chateau you showed. I understand that France is heading into drought. If you don't get the grass cut and there is a fire, you could experience issues. I would pull out all the stops to get the mower back and the grass dealt with. Bush fires are scary! Home made chutney is far better than most commercial brands which tend to be very sugary. Thank you for the video!

About the currants- when my dad was young, they had red currants near the house, which everyone absolutely loved. But so did the birds-who seemed to know the millisecond they were ripe, and swept through. So my advice is to keep an eye on the currants and pick them the moment they are ready! Otherwise the birds will enjoy them, not you!

Thank you so very much Jeanie. That chateau is so pretty and we believe that the same people worked on both properties. In the 1600s. That is amazing to think about. And indeed….. the copper pots. I love your comment. Hugs. ❤

Loved the artwork on the walls, they make me want to take out my paints, pencils and pastels, as flora and fauna studies are my favourite subjects. I have become accustomed to symmetry (or near symmetry) of structure in chateaux of that type and found that I was looking for another wing to balance the buildings, which is weird as my house is "L" shaped not "U" shaped lol.

    Hi guys.🤗
That was a lovely chateau tour. Would've liked to see more. Loved loved the pot rack and all the gorgeous, coveted, drool-worthy copper pots and pans. My! oh! my! Hurrah for the peach trees. I do favor stone fruits. Although I don't live in France (😕) I am all too familiar with your frustration about lousy and untimely 'customer service'. I empathize and commiserate. May miraculous events occur and you get both your mower and cooker this week.
    Affectionately, AJ

Wow….that chateau is an absolute gem….if it ticks all their boxes..surely this is the one. The style is similar to yours I think..indeed, the style of the area. And the pot rack…I really thought ud slipped in an image of your pot rack😅 The growth of everything in the potegere jardin is spectacular…it’s all that tender love and care u give it

    • @patrickjourneytothechateau9452
      @patrickjourneytothechateau9452 Рік тому

It sure does. It is the style of this area in the 17th and 18th century. And how amazing is it to look at the almost identical pot rack? And the same paint…… 😮. We will keep you posted about the veggies.

Oh, I wish I could send you some of our rain. It has rained pretty much every day here for the past two weeks! And I mean rain!! The tanks are full. and the ground is now getting squishy. Much more and we will start to get pooling with heavy falls. When this happens, our dam doubles and even triples in size. Although, it will be interesting to see what happens this year, as hubby has been doing a lot of excavation around the dam, doing drains and other landscaping magic stuff, to hopefully stop this overflow. As I am sitting here, watching you in the sunshine there, it is literally dark and pouring outside, and its 8am. Yesterday, we did not get sunshine until 4.30pm!!

My lords of Saint Colombe, for starters, yes the other chateau is beautiful, that is on the interior. Then, so is yours! Remember, you're still working on it. The finished chateau will be just as beautiful! As for the exterior, give your abode any day day!!! Your potager is truly lovely! Keep at it and you'll self sufficient in no time. As for the garage that would repair your tractor ... my advice: get it out of there and have it repaired locally. For the garage I would say 'tant pis', for they could have worked faster if they'd put their mind to it. Don't shun to take it away!

Hello! I wonder if the family that owns the chateau for sale has relatives connected to a family that once lived in your chateau. I enjoy your gardening vlogs. This summer I am focusing on native plants to the North East of the U.S. Do you have any interest in that for your gardens and grounds?
