I think the Land Tortoise is hugely underrated. Sapphire crystal, good metal bracelet, great proportions, nice and thin. If it had a diving bezel instead of a compass bezel, Seiko would sell it for much more. Makes a great weekday/weekend combo with my King Turtle.

It’s so confusing with the plethora of dive watches SEIKO offers. However, just last night I settled on the Turtle. I will be placing an order for it at LongIslandWatch sometime in January 2024. Do you have plenty in stock?

I put the gold tank on my Christmas list this year, and to my delight, one of my sons bought it for me. I love the way it looks and wears - I’m tempted to add the stainless version while the price is still so modest.
I impulsively purchased the Style60's GMT limited edition SSK015J1 and changed the brown nato for a tan epsom leather strap and it looks gorgeous! Love the new 4R34 movement. I wish it had a sapphire crystal and non-blue hour and minute hands. Maybe I'll mod it ;)
I would love to see you get the leg up on Seiko mods for the new 5 lineup, but especially the smaller sizes like the SRPK33. I'd love a signed crown for that thing and a lumed, ceramic (or sapphire) 12-hour bezel in the same number font as the stock bezel insert.
I got a blue “save the ocean” King Turtle a few months ago. Wasn’t something that was even on my radar. It was in a company catalog of stuff you can get for a work anniversary. I’ve absolutely fallen in love with it. No wonder the turtle is so well loved. Definitely a classic.
3:14 I would bet $20 that 90% of the sales are for gifts. Grads, grooms, best men, going off to college, big job interview, etc. It really screams “gift” in a good way. And, it being priced a bit above “cheap” makes it more significant gift in those situations.

When I first got into watches my “first love” was the Seiko Padi Pepsi (not mini) Turtle but for some reason I got the Save the Ocean Samurai. Wish I had gotten the Turtle. I like the mini turtle, though, because I don’t need the day complication.
PLEASE ask Seiko to bring back the King Seiko Special VANAC! And the weirder the better. Deep greens and purples, special bands, faceted crystals. If they could do it with the Sonar, they can do it with the Vanac and make some bank. Happy New Year, Marc!

I'm also (a bit) surprised the 001 5 Sports GMT outsold the 003 (my choice, which I bought from you in May while recuperating from my moto-crash a few months earlier). Love the 003. Also not surprised by the standard-issue Turtle, which I still have a desire to get hold of. Good video, Marc!

Got bitten by the solar bug. I think I could sell my entire collection and have this cracking mid size Seiko solar diver as my only watch for a couple of years.
I'm watching your channel for years I like it to watch every single video you post it! I'm collecting watches for years, the only thing i do not like seiko the crown it's not signed on all the watches and another thing the hardlex crystal especially for diver watches how can you make a watch for swimming and ask 400 500$ and you can get scratches in the first day you wear it!
An Islander Bayport with the Seiko solar movement would be a vastly better moderate sized diver style watch than the Seiko 38.5 mm ones. I don’t know if Seiko makes that movement available to micro brands or not.
It's a pity that Seiko don't do an upmarket "tank" with solar and sapphire crystal. I'm sure they could do one with a good quality strap for around £400. That would be about a sixth of the price of a Solar Cartier which is not an easy watch to find at the moment
I'm a diver crazy so for me Turtle will always be # 1 In my opinion Seiko should just milk it every year with three different colors and it would still sell. #2 will be monster and even the bezel isn't the most handy, it just looks great. #3 I'll put tuna, #4 I'll put samurai and the sumo as #5 Myself I don't understand Cat Willard phenomen but like the story tho. Cocktail time and tank inspired one should never leave their catalog. I wish for Seiko to resurrect helmet, bullhead and pogue. BTW I loved the pogue inspired watch that islander did little ago...

I speculate that demographics mean that people with stable employment, possibly good jobs, are now later in life and able to spend more on luxury items like watches, and are going back to design aesthetics they remember from when they could not afford these watch deigns.
My feel for 2024 1. The "throwback" watches may continue selling for a while but it will die down. 2. With Seiko pricing itself out of the market, the micro brand trend may continue a while longer. If a recession hits, Seiko and big watch makers will cut prices and many micro brands will go under. If there's no recession, then many micro brands will grow and fill up the space vacated by Seiko (and the Swiss. No one talks about it, but the Swiss have been more aggressive in hiking prices).
What proof do you have that Seiko are pricing themselves out of anything. Yes us watch nerds have issues with them but for the vast majority of casual watch buyers, Seiko is doing just fine.
Your #2 is not my opinion at all. You think they are pricing themselves out, but they are not. Maybe to the watch microcosm, but my viewers are not the broad audience.
If you consider some good micro brands, yes. But many people looking for a simple Seiko diver, basically only know of a few brands, Seiko, Citizen and in the luxury realm, Rolex. To many and main brand under $500 is what they want.
