Oh my god same here! It was crazy because it ended up contacting me with this girl I had a major crush but never had the guts to yell her until one day but backed out. Lord Huron keeps my memories with in that girl. It may have never resulted into something that could have been but listening to them always plays a movie of those times in my head.
I found them by hearing Ends of the Earth a few years ago in the movie Walking with Dinosaurs (pachyrhinosaurus one)
This was a song my previous boyfriend and I listened to. At first i thought it was sweet, but now it makes me cry hard because the lyrics have become true

this song always makes me cry. i had no idea that a song could perfectly perfectly match my life and who used to be my best friend
the night we met, riding the bus to our first volleyball game when we became fast friends and couldnt stop talking and laughing. we were so close that whole year. i had all of her.
and then she went off to volunteer at a camp and i guess....got a better best friend? she came back to school that fall and was....different. she didnt call me her best friend anymore, and had bonded with someone else. i had most of her.
over the course of that school year, we started moving farther and farther apart. her dad was the pastor of my church and there were some issues that they had with him. and then the shocker: they were letting him go. she got closer to me again because i knew the situation. but then....she revealed they were moving. to another state. i knew it was gonna be rough but i thought wed still be friends! she then became someone so different. she didnt want to do any activities at school, she didnt want to hang out, (wasnt depressed, just already letting go) kept saying things about her future without me when before this, our futures were so intertwined. we were gonna go to the same college, we were gonna be roomates. but she had started to move on, i could feel her leaving before she even left. i had some of her.
now shes gone. she lives in another state. she has completely ghosted me and when i check up on her socials, she seems so different. i dont even want to be friends with that person. now, i have none of her.
i wish i could go back to the night we met, where i rode along with her, where she touched me emotionally.
i feel like a wandering traveler.

I'll never forget experiencing this song live. February 2018. Freezing night, but talking to cool people (I even talked to the band that opened for them that night and ended up guiding them to the venue) made it one of the most special nights that year. When this song came on (I wasn't sure it would) I was completely transported. One girl in the crowd was holding up a lighter and I'm glad I caught that moment on video.
Instagram introduced me this song, it was a video of a mom who had lost her 5 year old son, he was holding his newborn brother and it cut to the newborn now a 2 year old visiting his brother's grave 😭 it broke me into million pieces
