Imagine if Editor-san sneaked a clip of Brett and Eddy's early recordings. Would they give praise or roast themselves? Haha
That'd be awesome
They must do this in the next one 😂
I would guess they'd recognize their playing. They've already watched themselves playing as kids. Can't remember when but look at their old videos.
I think about that too hahaha
Probably roast themselves
Classical musicians are "old" "bald" and "greasy", they said.
The "old" "bald" and "greasy" are us non prodigies when (and if) we will get near the prodigies quality.
Greasy maybe but age isn’t required anymore
Another delightful episode of "crushing my self esteem and all of my dreams"
Pog through the pain :l
Haha
Life esteem 💀💀
The title of this video should be renamed: Don't Click On This Video If You Want To Preserve Your Self-Esteem.
It would be interesting as well to do a « guess if it’s a veteran (pro) violinist or a child prodigy »
YES
I guess they would be able to guess that easily
that would be epic
@@booksandmusic2526 yeah, I'm pretty sure they could tell.
I agree with the other comments, they would definitely be able to guess that more easily. They were clearly pointing out things that needed a little work so I assume prof would barely get that feedback.
No one:
Brett Yang: pulls out a bunch of Ling Ling medals for emotional support after his self-esteem gets destroyed by prodigies.
As he should tho 😌
Probably those are Eddy’s medals tho
@@lynnnalee9866 those are Brett’s. the medals appeared on old video
@@ajchandra7735 they both have medals, I assume Brett’s are in Brett’s house tho
I found nothing for me to support my self-esteem.
since twoset's bringing back the old series, can we please bring back twoset charades too?
yesss the charades are actually the videos that made me sub to them
bring back "guess the composer"
We have to bring back the Davie vs twoset
yes pls
Yes!!!

Love that❤
Guess prodigy's age
Eddy: actually trying to guess the age
Brett: Nine
I also noticed 🤣
Eddy: "If I started practicing 8 hours a day, I'm not confident I could get Erlkönig sounding like that in 1 year."
Everyone: Mark your calendars!
I remember nel cor* 😆

Yeah pls eddy do it
Wasn’t he talking about Dvorak?
Duh, why don't you practice 40 hours?
Alternative Intro: "Welcome to another *Crushing Our Self Esteem* episode."
i have lost my self esteem a long time ago.
maria dueñas REALLY is something else. as soon as i heard them listening to the recording i was sure it was her. 100% certain she'll be a legendary violinist up there with the greats in only a few years
agreed. she's so amazing
I got so excited when that recording came up, I immediatly yelled "It's María, it's her!"
I've listened to that Paganini recording countles of times because of how good it is.
Which competition was that from?
Those fast notes remind me of flamenco guitar players. Must be something in their genes 😂
@@johanarifinroslan9678 Seems like Zhuhai International.
When you try saving your self-esteem: "It's a bit out of tune" -Eddy
Haha
“It’s also all about hardwork and practice”
people: is this a prodigy? **sacrilegious noises intensifies**
*Le GaSp*
"It's also about hard work and practice" right! everybody wants to be a child prodigy until you have to practice 40 hours a day starting when you're like 5, miss hanging out with friends etc., it takes a lot of dedication. I know a few child prodigies from going to a music school here in Russia growing up and it gets more intense than just participating in competitions (lots of kids did and won the latter), a few of them ending up rebelling against their parents later on and they barely play now
Yep, I've wondered that too. The joy of playing gets strangled in time... So sad.
So true that’s sad.
@@wakingtheworld I think it's a disservice to child prodigies to assume they're all miserable and being forced to do something though. Most child prodigies aren't "forced" to do anything. You simply can't get to the level of world prodigy through forced discipline, because children don't work like that. They always burn out. All it takes is looking at the faces of kids who play their instruments to know how much they love it. And the fact is in any hobby, there's no gain without pain. Think of the US Olympic gymnasts or Russian figure skaters, most of whom get their first gold medal before they're 21. Theirs is a field where your career ends early, it takes children with a special kind of personality--they tend to be more monotonously driven than the average child (rather than most kids who have ADHD when it comes to hobbies, which is also healthy and normal), and also come from a socioeconomic class that allows their parents to support their endeavors. I also think children like this are more mentally resilient because they're so driven by passion that they're capable of withstanding hours of practice, and even more failures than most adults can even imagine. You simply can't get so far unless you really love what you're doing.
@@xtwinni Appreciate your long reply, Willow... Ok, one can't tar them all with the same brush but they do miss out on life. I recall the TwoSet 'Draw Our Lives' vid where, I believe, Eddy said that he was advised when he was a teenager to take some time out and experience life...
Fun fact: These prodigies are Maestro "Ling Ling"s kids!
Ling ling pro max.....!!!

As a non-musician, I would actually love to see a video of you guys straight up practising. Maybe even a livestream, I don't know. I'm genuinely curious to see how it works.
There are some vids of piano practicing going on. Several piano students / semi-pros.
You can check their Sibelius and Tchaikovsky Livestream
A concert pianist, Tiffany Poon, also does practice vids! Also inspires me to practice so lol
For me anyway the practicing process at the very beginning is a bit humiliating
Hilary Hahn does short practice videos on her instagram and explains what she's trying to accomplish and why she does what she does on each practise session ;)
"It takes time to develop violin skills" - Isaac Newton C.2021
Every single time I see these prodigies I think to myself,
*why even try.*
"I was going to say nine but then you said nine, so I went eight."
Eddy Chen, 28, hates losing
Ay but Maria just blew my mind she’s so good :’)
Those ricochets though. She looks and sounds so confident
For people who don't already know: There actually is a cheat-code for violin. By playing the notes 'L-I-N-G' twice in a row, you will automatically learn to play the violin flawlessly, and adopt your own style to it.
However, because of the disastrous aftermaths of various great musicians unlocking this secret code for a variety of instruments, modern music theory cap notes to G (previously H). Today, only a handful remain that know how to go beyond these notes.
in order to play those notes, you have to practice 40 hours a day.
Germans are behind the times and still kept the H
That’s good to know. By the looks of it, I am 25% there - I can play G.
them guessing the age by actually analysing the playing
me guessing by identifying the prodigy after hearing the recording in the past and then remembering the child's age
Good for you. I could never remember those things.
The playlist for this episode is now up on the Playlist channel. Today's selection of videos is extremely impressive, it's so worth listening to the full pieces.
The Erlkönig video is completely in Japanese, it wasn't easy to find it 😅

There is a theory that prodigies mastered these skills in a previous life and brought them over to this next life. I choose to believe this because it makes me feel better about myself...
I believe this anyway, so was Roman Kim once Paganini?
To be honest, that's the only thing that makes any sense to me. I have no better explanation
I’m pretty sure they are professional bakers and bubble tea chefs not professional violinists.

Lol😆 so true! love the comment
Maria Dueñas's performance was out of this world 🤯
I love how twoset are so generous with their praise and respect, and at the same time teaching us what to listen for in such awesome playing.
Yes, I was going to comment on how their analyses of the techniques of each violinist, the skill level age expectation and size of violin would indicate their age... but they are jaw-droppingly & almost unbelievably talented...
Ah yes perfect for when you have a recital up soon
4:04 their build-up reaction before their shocked faces appeared are so priceless
I lost it when Brett pulled the medals 😂😂
4:04 Eddy's eyebrow here killed me
The young girl, otoha togashi looks so familiar. Didn't twoset react to a pair of 7 year old twins before? She looks like a grown up version of one of them!
Edit: I checked. It IS her, one of the ling ling twins. There's a video of her sister playing God Save the Queen in a seperate video O.O
I thought the same.
They also reacted to her playing Paganini’s Nel cor piu non mi sento when she was 10. Those twins are absolute beasts on the violin
Yes, you're right
"They're getting younger" -Twoset
This is code for: Twoset violin almost gives up on their careers
The girl who is playing Ernst is actually Mirei, not Otoha. They are identical twins and both exquisite violinists.
When I heard the Paganini recording I guessed the age is 14-15 and I thought it sounded like Maria Dueñas... I'm really surprised how I guessed all of that right despite being a non-musician... Twoset has taught me well 😌
Damn.... that Maria girl is gonna be the next violin goddess. I've watched this video several times, and I still get goosebumps every time I hear her playing 😮👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Behind every prodigy is a master teacher. I refuse to believe otherwise. :O holy moly
Dear self-esteem,
Please come back. I'm sorry for destroying you. I won't do it again, just please come back 3:

"There's gravity and it takes time to develop violin skills" 😂
Gotta give Editor-San thumbs-up for releasing this video that shows how fun these guys had...in having their soul-crushed.
As a 14 year old and being a violinist this makes me feel Insignificant.😢😭
Someone needs to sneak in some of Brett and Eddy's recordings into these so we can see them analyze their own playing.
Another episode of letting down my self esteem with these child prodigies😆 even though I don't play any instruments 😁
I already know all the answers :
They're all way younger than you cause they PRACTICED 40 hours a day even in the womb
9:20 yo that's my comment! I remember watching that video and I was unable yo believe what I was seeing... These kids deserve my utmost respect. Keep it up! 🎼🎻
Seems like they mixed up Mieri with Otoha as well
-Mieri's violin is the black one
@Da Dolphin Girl yes, I was wondering about that! You're right, Mirei's violin is the black one.
I just adore when they get all excited bc of the performers being so good 4:02
Poor Brett had to hold on to the piano for stability.

Ok, I know I've been talking about this for like, many many times already, but please rest well, eat a lot, drink less bbt and coffee, and get more sleep! (My mom just told me the same thing today, so yeah, let's work on this together!)
12:12 instead of go practice Eddy, you should go sleeping... please...
YES! This needs more likes. (Although a moderate amount of bbt is allowed haha)
@@anniejoy7811 Yep, moderate amount of bbt is like a mood booster or a reward! Eddy really gives me a worry tbh, I now understand why my mom worried about me that much whenever she saw me lol
Eddy admitted to being tired at the start of the baking cup cakes vid... They have a HUGE load on their plate atm... and it ain't food.
Brett: "Can I just say" x3 😂
Taking on Eddy's habits! Lol
As a member of the composer gang, I am honestly excited that this is the generation that's gonna play future concertos I might write that'll make it

We will get there guys! And we will have a lot of satisfaction from the increasing mastery levels we achieve. Not only in music, but over mind and emotion!
I’m 43 and I practiced some piano the other day. I’m the best I’ve ever been at it. I’m learning HOW to practice now.. when I’m less stressed and tired. I had less tension in my playing as everything was less of an effort as I wasn’t so tired. Ana it was fun. And I could see that if I keep going.. well every study I learn to play is filling out aspects of my technique.
