@@ericlopez7120 I was on a list. I applied a long time ago in person at this local and then had to take an exam, go through an in-person interview, and was waitlisted until a new opening became available. It can take a long time to get into the UA and some of the other apprenticeships because they are very competitive, and opportunities are largely dependent on the needs from the contractors.
You just hit the lottery! I’m from UA 469 PHX,AZ my Journeyman did his apprenticeship in local 38 highest paying local in the United States! Good luck too you brother!
I loved it and miss the trade since retiring. It is better to expect it to be a hard job, many have sugar plum visions and think just putting up pipe makes the a apprentice foreman. You have to do grunt work to production.
@beekeepermariadelgado6806 I know. I'm an operator on a job with pipefitters right now. It looks like a trade like any other. Ups and downs. This video will discourage people who might do well in the trade from applying.
Im barely going to get started and my local union sent me this video and it does make the job seem like ass, guy said he gets home at 12 and wakes up at 5-4 am? Does the job lead anytime for you to have a life?!
@Podcastngo I'm actually an Operating Engineer. My cousin's a pipefitter. In my union, some companies work a lot of hours, some don't. My cousin works 45hrs/week. The pipefitters I'm working with now are doing 72 hrs, so it depends on what you want in your career.
@@Podcastngo Too many apprentices have visions of lollipops and smooth sailing. Most important is to show up everyday, do not be late, keep your phone in your car or lunch box. However your hall dispatches when out of work whether you show up or call in be available. Do not take vacations while working. Do not bring personal issues to work. Do not talk shit about another co-worker you never know if it is the bosses grandson etc. Working include picking up shit and moving it, sweeping etc. You get paid the same. This video is garbage, I’m a 3rd year apprentice pipefitter local 539 and I love my career, I have no complaints, the people they interviewed are complaining about the choice while everyone I work with feel blessed to be a part of this career opportunity, way to go ua for putting out a video to scare away a lot of potential union members🤦🏽♂️
I think it's showing the hardest parts that some people will struggle with so they are prepared. If this video is as bad as it gets then imagine how Happy they will be when it's way better than this
@ not a great way to attract members by making it look like it sucks, and not a great representation of union work making it look like we have a bunch of crybaby’s who complain about the blessed opportunity they have
I’m about to be a second year plumbing apprentice and in my first year I’ll say they didn’t teach me anything with plumbing all I did was grunt work my first year
I may be a woman but I have always preferred information which is truthful. Even in high school I enrolled with the hard ass teachers where everyone was afraid. But that’s me. Most guys in my apprenticeship quit, they could not take the difficulty. I flourished. I had no need to throw anyone under the bus to keep a job. Did not kiss the fireman’s ass , play golf, go to tittie bars or swing on the meat. Where most men would not travel for work, I tramped. Did the job I loved.. maybe I should have used a sweet idealistic cute video with comedy like a couple of butt cracks . Anyhow it was a career I loved, have an excellent retirement I was able to buy my own home. I was a dental assistant in my past life. No benefits, nothing. The caliber of men in construction are way better than the creepy doctors.
I got accepted into the apprenticeship program with UA 38 in San Francisco. I'm excited to transition into the trades.
Nice man, did you get a call or on a list? I’m part of a different union so I’m not sure how UA works.

To top it all off, you get your check and see how much you’ve paid in union dues!
I Augusta you may not have a job almost no work for apprentices I was told UA 72 don’t have that problem
