Yes. Mom clearly got her own dress and followed the fashion of the time. She really should let her daughter have the same. It's ok to make the offer of the dress as one of several options, but then you step back and respect the decision.
I didn't think the dress did that much for the bride the top fit good, but that skirt just hung on her like it was wet. The one quick close up of the lace on the bodice showed it was dull in color from age. The mom's dress needs an update that would cost way more than the budget of $2,500 and it would no longer look like mom's dress. No point in alterations put mom's dress back into the box and look for the daughter's dream dress. Mom still has another daughter and a second opportunity to have her dress worn, but don't hold your breathe that daughter #2 is going to be in love with it.
I think when the Mom saw the daughter in her vintage wedding dress, she was taken back to her own wedding with all the emotions and joy she had 28 years ago. It was very loving of the daughter to try it on and give her that memory. I love the dress that the bride finally chose.
I think Monty just pulled a Boss Move! His 'vintage' comment was the perfect thing to say, because it got the point across without being nasty about it (whatever he might've been thinking inside his head!) I find it a little creepy that the mum was so intent on having her daughter wear her old dress at her wedding; it's like she's seeing her daughter as a vicarious extension of herself, rather than her own person who wants the experience of picking out her dream dress for herself.

I LOVE you Monte! You said what needed to be said -in a kind, humorous but tactful way. Bless your heart❤. And the bride looks beautiful and happy in her OWN way.
As soon as they showed Mom’s dress, I knew it’s vintage because I had friends get married in that same time period. The bridesmaid dresses we wore had similar vibes. I wouldn’t wear any of them now and pretend they were “timeless” either. We just celebrated 29 years and I wouldn’t ever expect my daughter or anyone’s daughter to choose the style of dress I made and wore for our wedding because it’s definitely dated. It was stylish and pretty at the time, but definitely not “timeless”, and Mom’s dress wasn’t timeless either. Mine is definitely a product of the early 90s and Mom’s was definitely mid-80s. I’m glad she finally let go of her bridal fantasy and let her daughter create her own.
Her mom's dress was gorgeous and it looked nice on the bride-to-be I thought but ultimately she chose the dress that best fit her personally and she looked really pretty.
Relax. Mum is not wrong for hoping her daughter would love her own wedding dress. She loves and supports her daughter and came around eventually. That's all that really matters.
You don’t know that. For all you know, her mom didn’t have a wedding dress for her to wear (mine didn’t), so she’s dreamed of having one to hand down to her daughter.
As a daughter of someone who wore a VERY similar dress, I am kind of glad my mom's got lost in a move. BUUUUTTTTT my gram hand made that dress for my mom and would have been honored to have even had the chance to wear a BDP original. Not sure if my mom's dress would have fit me without alterations and it would have been WAYYYYY too hot on our 85° wedding day
I feel like Mom felt that her wedding was the high point in her life and hasn’t gotten much beyond that. It *is* a nice dress but it’s also outdated, and it’s not the bride’s choice.
do her first look with it! since photographers are soo pushy about a first look it would allow for that and the bride could still have the ah ha moment in her chosen dress and more pictures in it. She looks beautiful in both. Just that second one that she called "timeless" was tragic.
Mom had a great dress for HER wedding, nearly 3 decades ago! And we can all see that Mom is still stuck in that old time period with her decades-old hairstyle that desperately needs an update. I have my own wedding dress from 35 years ago, and I would NEVER expect my daughter to wear what I loved for ME, way back THEN. Please, let your daughter have something new!
I think there’s more to it than that. At the end of the day, it’s the brides choice, but there are traditions with reusing an old wedding gown. And now in a day and age where money is tight, that may be a smart option for most brides.
I completely agree! I was married in the early 90s and would *never* expect my daughter to want to wear my dress. It was very fashionable for the time, but it certain isn’t timeless. And Mom’s 1984 dress definitely wasn’t timeless. As soon as I saw it, I pegged its vintage. Funny, it looked an awful lot like the dress one of my best friends wore for her wedding in ‘85. And the bridesmaid dress I wore for it isn’t timeless either, unless it’s being worn for a costume/80s themed party.
On principle I agree, and I know that if my mom was alive, she wouldn't want me wearing her dress either cause it would be very dated. However, I gotta say this mom's dress still looked really good by today's standards, just maybe for someone who wanted a slightly vintage style.
I know someone whose overbearing parents, because they were paying for the wedding, forced their daughter to wear her mother's dress from the early 50s. She was so unhappy, and midway through the morning her veil started deteriorating because it was old and had been stored incorrectly. If you're going to wear a vintage dress because YOU want to and its lovely/meaningful to YOU, still make sure that you check it and have it correctly laundered as far ahead of the wedding as when you'd be dress shopping.
That dress was a hot mess. It wasn’t even in style in the 80’s and the fit in the bodice was horrible. I was astonished to learn it ‘fit perfectly’. It had to be a discount item
Outside of the shop, bride needs to have a heart to heart with her mom. Let mom express why this is so important to her, and really listen. Because I think that dress is a symbol for her, of all the love and happiness and commitment she's experienced, and wishes for YOU. Talking it out may help her separate the feelings from the garment. Because her and your dad's example everyday is what has taught you what marriage can be, and you thank her for that ❤.
mom's dress really isn't bad for that era but it just didn't gel with the bride. she very much looked like she was wearing someone else's dress. she really picked a gorgeous dress though, the shape was perfect, the amount of lace was perfect, even the bling at the waist was perfect!

Classic gown. I'd have been pleased to have the chance to even try on my Mother's 1969 gown, but sadly it had red wine spilt down it the reception and it was not salvaged. That said, when I married in 1998, I was happy to choose my own gown ( and I got a pure silk dress for £125.00 at a sample sale-so it was obviously meant to be. But this issue is clearly very emotive. I wonder if one solution is to offer to wear the family gown for first dances-in particular if Dad from that wedding is dancing. A sweet gesture, limited risk of damage to a special item at that stage in the proceedings and a classic, romantic moment.
It was sweet that she tried on her mother's dress to appease her. However, I believe all bride's should have her chance to shine in a dress of her own.
@@j.i.r608 The truth is never rude. She made a choice that was unflattering to her, bc her mother couldn’t have the rationality to toss out a 40-year-old dress that shouldn’t have been kept.
My mom got married in 1954. I got married in 1982. I would have worn her dress, but she cut it to cocktail length to wear to a party. I loved her gown. It was a full on tulle ball gown with a sweetheart neck and cap sleeves. 🎉🎉
I really think it depends on what the wedding venue will look like. If it’s a warm, outdoor wedding then that strapless will work. But if it’s a fall/winter wedding, the old fashion with sleeves will work.
I absolutely loved ,loved my mom's wedding dress, tried it on here in Orlando, Florida has the AC blasting ceiling fans going ,My entire family was there. The gown was Stunning, it had mellowed to an antique white satin. But with the long sleeves w fingertip loop ,the scalloped neckline & massive cathedral train .I'd have passed out for a mid July wedding. The only way to wear mom's gown was to plan a wedding back in our home town ,but that wasn't going to be doable. So I took off shopping 1 day before my shift (RN) found a dress ,my 3 coworkers saw it last fitting tears & laughter, champagne such a blast !! Mom got to see it when she helped me get dressed for my formal wedding pictures. Naturally we had the bubbly stuff & snacks ,it was so special will always remember her face the tears & joy ,she said your Daddy is going to be a mess when he sees you sissy ♡♡♡♡♡
The Mom said it "when I put it on I knew it was MY dress" Calm down and let your daughter have that same experience. The pressure from that mother is very unfair.
Honestly, I think her mom's dress was the most beautiful! It's not my type of dress but it actually looked more beautiful than the other two. And maybe if her mom was willing she could have made it into cap sleeves or even change the neckline a little? But everybody deserves their own dress on their special day
Moms dress looked so good! Having a daughter I probably would wish her to wear my dress too , but I know exactly that she must pick her own bc she will regret not making her own choice
@@katarinawikholm5873 don’t be so harsh of moms who want that , nothing wrong with wanting your daughter at leat try on her dress, BUT! You have to be smart enough to realize that it’s not your wedding and she has to make her own choice!
@@milaniaa.932 It’s still really creepy, therapy-needed level of creepy, to want to pass your gown to your daughter. It’s the same territory as bathing suits and negligies from the honeymoom, you’d be comfy with handing down those?
I agree, every bride deserves her own dress. Just an idea, maybe the bride could surprise everyone and wear her mom's dress for the father/daughter dance or first dance and then change back into her gown. It would be such a fun surprise and make her mom so happy. :)
Honestly, her mother’s dress is really nice and isn’t insanely dated like many wedding dresses from that era. My Mum got married around the same time and huge leg-o-mutton sleeves. However good it might look though, it has to be what the bride wants.
It is actually a very pretty dress on her, and I’m sure it was wonderful that the Mom got to see her daughter in it. But the Bride definitely needed her own.
I made over an 80’s dress for a friend’s daughter to wear at her rehearsal dinner. Took off the big poufy sleeves, lowered high neckline and shortened the dress with a high low hemline. It was a way to wear her mom’s dress and have her own for the big day.
A bride should have her own dress. “She’s making her own memories not her moms.”. Which most moms don’t even think about that. I would’ve worn it. What I find crazy is she picked out the mothers dress just without sleeves which I think ended up being better because she wouldn’t have alter her mothers dress. 5:53 The old dress comment had me dying because it was straight facts.😹😹 I applaud the mother for not being to pushy, bitter, and for not putting her daughter down like we see a lot on this show. When a mom doesn’t get her way because it’s not her day.
I donated my dress years ago. I never expected my future daughters to wear it and I had no desire to store it. It’s way more fun to watch them pick out something new that’s their personality. I’m not interested in reruns of my own life. That being said, I really liked her mom’s dress on her. Would have been fun to alter it for the rehearsal dinner or something like that. The dress she chose was just precious. Luv it ❤

A sweet gesture, limited risk of damage to a special item
at that stage in the proceedings and a classic, romantic moment.
I loved that they played 80s music when the mom was looking for a dress 😂
She knows her mom so well, she knew she was gonna pick dresses similar to her wedding dress.
It was sweet that she tried on her mother's dress to appease her. However, I believe all bride's should have her chance to shine in a dress of her own.
Lori: I kinda respect you occasionally
Monte: *gives her an annoyed side eye*
😂😂😂😂😂
She looked so beautiful in her mother’s traditional dress.
She looked like she had been in a snowstorm … from the 80s in that
@@katarinawikholm5873No she didn't. That's just rude
Mom's dress wasn't bad at all. Take a picture of her in that dress before she wears her own that day.
Her Mother's dress could have easily been restyled into the dream dress she wanted. I guess in the long run, she was happy, and that's what mattered
If Mom donated that dress, I know a budget Bride would proudly wear it and look stunning on her Wedding day!😊
No one can donate there wedding dress like dude IT YOUR WEDDING DRESS you got married in it..
I really think it depends on what the wedding venue will look like. If it’s a warm, outdoor wedding then that strapless will work. But if it’s a fall/winter wedding, the old fashion with sleeves will work.
That BELT 😂😂😂. I worse the exact same belt in high school in the late 80’s
Best highlight of the epi is 5:40 to 6:15 🤣 loved it too much and watched it too many times 🤣🤣
I would have wanted to wear the mom's dress. For a 1984 wedding dress is tame and elegant. ❤
and mom also has the same hairstyle as 28 years ago too!
The pressure from that mother is very unfair.
moms wedding dress is better than many designer dresses these days.....loved it.. it was made for todays rack for country or southern brides....
tbh,and surprisingly i love her mom dress 😅😍😍 but !! the bride looks beautiful in her dress she chose 🥰😘
The mom's dress is gorgeous. I wanted to wear my mom's dress, but it was too tiny.
🤣Monte🤣 Bride looked lovely in the dress she chose.
The way I laughed when Monty made the comment about the “old lookin’ dress. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Honestly, I think her mom's dress was the most beautiful! It's not my type of dress but it actually looked more beautiful than the other two. And maybe if her mom was willing she could have made it into cap sleeves or even change the neckline a little?
But everybody deserves their own dress on their special day
Mom's hairstyle is pretty retro too. I actually liked mom's dress a lot more than dress 2 which was just weird, but 3 was perfect.
I wanted to cut that lion mane and put it on my head, cuz I need it.
And the belt. She seems sweet, but that lady misses the 80s something awful.
It's sad though to see such a beautiful dress kept in a box after having been worn once...
a bride needs her own dress..
Then she shouldn’t have kept it. Such a waste of space and energy to keep a wedding dress
@@katarinawikholm5873I kept mine intending to wear it for Halloween. Haha. I never did. I think I eventually donated it.
Rent dress or give it away then
OMG! When Monty dropped the verbal bomb about mom's dress I almost fell off my couch.
Moms dress looked so good! Having a daughter I probably would wish her to wear my dress too , but I know exactly that she must pick her own bc she will regret not making her own choice
Why on earth would you want that? It’s not you getting married
@@katarinawikholm5873 🤣🤣🤣
Monty’s spice in this episode was just *chef’s kiss*
The mum's dress was stunning
Mom has boxed herself in the 80s, bless her heart.
The lace has yellowed on the mom's dress.
Mom's hair is still living in the 80s too.
Edit: the dress is really nice, intricate lacing and bead work.
I would have worn this dress for sure, it is beautiful.
I mean we love mom's dress and it's beautiful to see daughter after daughter wear the same dress but we respect her wishes.
Both Mom (on her wedding picture) and daughter have the figure of a model. Anything would look good on them.
I loved the Mom's dress on her. The one she chose was beautiful too
Mom wearing her 80s belt as well😂
A bride should have her own dress.
Luv it ❤
Monty is so freaking funny
Mom needs to update her looks!
i think so too! just the hair tho. her makeup and clothes suit her vibe
There's nothing wrong with the way she looks
Bravo. Yes to the dress. All the best
