Since this is a hybrid, you can get it to bloom for you by putting it in the cold at night--somewhere between 55-65 degrees fahrenheit. Do this every night until you see the flower spike, or use a refrigerator like the florist shops (don't go below 55 degrees F, though!). Once the spike develops, you can remove the plant from the nighttime cold. It will flower. 🤗
Nighttime temp drop has not worked for this orchid. There are many other factors involved for blooming, though. I think it is just resting for a cycle or two.

Can you cut the old stem below the roots if it is really long?
Yes, if it is old, yellow, and dry. I don’t think I’d want to cut into live, green tissue.
