      I strongly feel these sound better than regular scale sound gears.
      The bass world has adopted this literal nonsense that short scale basses are for beginners or small people - scale length is like anything else, you get different tones from different scale lengths.
      I feel there's something about this design that lends itself better to a shorter scale length.

    I’m a lifelong pro player and I now own 4 of these Ibanez Mikro bass’s, two 4 string models and two 5 string models.
    I use my Mikro bass’s for everything, paying gigs and rehearsals.
    My large collection of very nice, very expensive, regular long scale bass’s have been collecting lots of dust over the last year or more, they are ALL getting sold soon.
    I’ve totally switched over to these Mikro short scale bass’s and don’t miss my long scale bass’s one bit.
    Great video by the way.

      Hello. Can i ask why would you need to have two same guitars?

    • @BassedInVegas
      @BassedInVegas 2 роки тому +4

      @@Elizabeth_Postol I have 2 of the same of all my bass’s, two 5 string Mikro’s, two 4 string Mikro’s and two Music Man 4 string short scale bass’s.
      The main reason I have multiple of the same bass’s is one bass will be for rehearsals and the other for live paying gigs.
      The strings on my rehearsal bass’s tend to sound dull and lifeless after extended playing but that doesn’t really matter when I’m just using my rehearsal bass’s for rehearsals.
      The bass’s I use for live shows only get used for live shows hence the strings always sound bright and crispy.
      On a side note, all my 4 string bass’s are setup with BEAD strings/tuning, I definitely love that Low B string sound and especially love the slimmer neck profile of a 4 string bass as opposed to the wider neck profile of a 5 string bass.
      Hope all that made sense and I don’t sound to insane (lol)
      Worst Band In Town on FB if ya wanna check videos of my Music Man short scale BEAD setup bass’s.

    In truth I own a lot of basses and I have been playing since the late '80's but since buying my Ibanez Mikro 4 and 5 string basses those are the only ones I play anymore and I play them every day.
    Ibanez hit one out of the ballpark with the development of the Mikro series. I can't recommend them highly enough, these basses are awesome!

    I love the ease of play in a short scale. For me it is worth some sacrifice sonically to be able to play quickly and with ease for long periods of time. In short scale with that lesser tension you are losing some of the tightness in the lows/mid that a full scale has but I think that will change with developments in bass design and string gauge.

    I bought the same bass and gave it to my nephew after I bought a full size Ibanez 400E, then an expensive Ibanez Affirma. However, now I just ordered the Mikro again because it was just so damn much fun. I'm also not very big, so helps with left shoulder pain from reaching . At the time I didn't realize how good a guitar it was. I didn't have intonation or fret issues, but since I make guitars, I have all the stuff to file them flat and do the work if necessary.

    Great review!! One thing about short scales, 31 inches or less, is that there is much less string tension. Even more so in this case with the Ibanez being 28 inches. I would not recommend drop tunings with this instrument because even if you can get the low e string down to d it will be way to muddy and undefined. You could probably get away with E flat but that is where I would stop. Nice playing bud

    • @taylorpearcy319
      @taylorpearcy319 4 роки тому

      Don Nix I see comments like these all the time. Have you considered thicker strings? That should compensate. String tension, if I’m correct on this, is a product of scale length, string gauge, and desired frequency. So, if scale length decreases, you simply increase string gauge.

    • @donnix768
      @donnix768 4 роки тому +1

      Taylor Pearcy Certainly is something worth trying. I recently picked up a short scale jaguar bass from fender/squier and it is a nice guitar. I find it however easier to play 34 inch scale bass guitars just from learning to play on a full scale p bass.

    • @moskitoh2651

      Moskito H yea, 28.6 is pretty damn short. I’m thinkin about getting an Ibanez Mezzo, at 32 inches you probably shouldn’t have toooo much of a tension issue, and I’d be very interested to see if there’s any significant difference in playability compared to my 35 scale ESP

    I bought one about the same time you did, same colour too. I had many of the same issues, like the dust and the intonation problems. The dealer was not very customer friendly, which left me stuck with it. After a lot of struggling with it, I got it pretty close to being right now (this evening) and I think I maybe able to get it bang on with a little more effort. It's been a rather harrowing purchase for me as I was a total guitar newbie. I've learned a lot by now, so that is a positive. Not sure I'd go with this brand again though, because they let it out of the factory in that condition, and that does not seem professional to me. However I like it plenty because I have a lot of TLC time invested in it, and learned so much. I might get some flat wound strings if I can get a mortgage one day; a modest set is nearly 1/6th of the cost of the guitar and the more exotic ones can be approaching 1/3rd to 1/2 of the guitar's cost. Crazy proposition that is. Enjoyed your video a lot, it gave me some insight into owning one that I could not have otherwise have known. Thanks for that. Be well.

      Yeah I wish they would just up the price a little and offer better finish and quality control. Especially since it's aimed at beginners.
      I still haven't changed the strings on mine either for that reason 😅 I'm not playing it so much at the moment but if i come back to it i'll invest in some strings for sure, it will probably make a big difference... Some new electronic could be a big step up as well...

    That jaded LowEndLobster guy would have knocked off a few points for some of the issues you encountered: knobs that work like on/ off switches and implied QC issues at the factory - with regard to the blemishes and the intonation/ set up problems that had you returning it to be replaced with another one. It sounds like it worked out though and this may be the bass for me also; but I clearly have to keep open the option to be able to return a faulty instrument.

From the video, is it me or your strings are pretty high action. I think it should be about 2,5mm for E at 24 fret or less if picking up lightly and 2 mm or less on treble side. Is this recommended for a serious playing? I'm starting a band with my good buddies, and we agreed to take things seriously. The bassist is a guitarist-turn-to-bassist who struggled to reach the frets of a bass.. Will this be good & okay for gigging (or even professional use) after component upgrades?

    • @QuentinDamour
      @QuentinDamour  2 роки тому

      Definitly, already usable out of the box in most cases, but if you have extra budget I would upgrade in this order : First change the electronics, then strings, then the pickups, then have a setup done by a professional.

    Question to anybody who can answer: the split coil on this bass has the upper half closer to the bridge, but my Cort Action PJ has the upper half closer to the neck. I see variation between brands and models. Doesn’t the configuration affect the tone or the sensitivity?

    • @QuentinDamour
      @QuentinDamour  2 роки тому

      If you have the budget, sure why not. Not absolutely essential to me. I would upgrade in this order : 1- electronics 2-strings 3-tuners 4-pickups

  • @TempoDrift1480
    @TempoDrift1480 2 роки тому

    How is the low F and F#? I have two of the full scale versions and I literally had to file the 2nd and 3 frets cause they wouldn't play regardless of truss rod adjustments and saddle height.

      I like the purple look ! They should do it with maple fingerboard it would look awesome. Well i wouldnt recommend anyone to play this without an amp to be honest. If the sound is a problem i would try to hook it up to an amp with headphone output or to a computer 👍 let us know what you think of your bass once it's there 🙂

    • @QuentinDamour
      @QuentinDamour  3 роки тому

      Definitely. Just keep in mind that one of the most important thing is to have it set up properly to be easy to play. If you have some money aside for a Luthier check and maybe swap the pots and jack input for higher end you'll have a very solid frustration-free instrument that will last you years.
