Hands down your best video. And at a perfect time for me as I’m setting up a fish room myself and have been looking at ways on how to filter them all, now I can have 2 extra tanks with the air pump filtration instead of running sumps.

Hello Andy I’ve just watched your video and how you have set your fishroom up which is a credit to you and just goes to prove we don’t need a large garage or basement to enjoy our fish or it cost us a fortune to run especially in these difficult times with energy cost being what they are !! I’m just in the process of having some much needed building work done and once finished I will be coming into the hobby I want my fishroom to be around the same size as your own , fully insulated including the floor and I do like the heating the room idea so something I shall be certainly trying 👍. What great advice mate. You could even get an electronic thermometer that sends a text to your phone if you get a heater failure. You could even use a Hunters trail cam that would show you video and temperature. You would know if temp drops or air pump fails. Great fish room loved it.

My fishroom has over 100 taps and I used the same method when I redid my loop a few months ago. Works great I did it once and had a ton of small leaks so I ended up going back through and put tape on all of them. Man were my fingers sore lol.
Great video. Im currently looking at converting a brick outbuilding of ours to a fishroom. It measures around 3.5m x 4.5 m so should fit some nice tanks. Shame in your later videos, youve cut back but drastic times and that 😢 Good luck

I have a 239 gallon tank and I use 2xFX6 plus 2x300w heaters then lighting and it costs more to run than your setup!! I am going to do it for sure and get a shed set up DO NOT tell my wife. And the pumps pipe that goes into the plastic pipe, is it just make a hole in the plastic pipe and just put the pupm pipe in and then all the tank water just flows back and fourth from the sponges to the pump. I’m guessing Andy is from the West Midlands. The very coldest you’d ever get is probably around -5c or 23f but that will be at the extreme end and only for very short stints. Most of the coldest bits of winter will be a few degrees above freezing with a few odd snow days. A lot warmer than most places at our latitude.
Im guessing so to. But it deffo going to make the difference in cost of electric. Im in birmingham and spending nearly 230 a month on electric alone. Lol.

Excellent video Woods! I have thought about outfitting a garden shed as a fish room as well. However, the summers in Philadelphia are hot and humid with the temperature regularly exceeding 90 degree Fahrenheit. I don't know how I would keep it cool. What do you do, as I assume there are hot stretches in the summer in the U.K. as well?

The room is warmer than tank. There for very minimal condensation. Now if you heat tanks aboth room temp your going to get evaporation abd conditions. To me not rocket science.

The shed is only 10ftx 6ft but cramed with tanks. The more you can squeeze in the easier it is to heat. Thanks for watching happy fishkeeping to you sir.
I've not a clue. I keep my eye on water temp not room temperature. I'll turn my heater up after a water change, then right back down again once all tanks have stabilised. Once stabilised the heater is set just high enough to keep everything good trial and error. I just keep checking water temp. Smaller the air space the more economical it is. So the more tanks you cram in the better.
Soo are you able to only run sponge filters on your tanks as filtration because you perform weekly water changes? I’m trying to lower my electric bill taking care of roughly 600 gallons total

Hi mate great vid doing a fish room in my basement in the uk and was going to use kingspan but it’s really pricey and after watching you video do you think it’s necessary, should I just go for polystyrene like yourself what temp does your fish room sit at?
I put joists running across the opposite direction to the originals. Only were the feet of the racking are. Your OK as long as you don't put racking feet directly onto the floor boards. Make sure the feet are on joists only. Hope that makes sense 🤔🤔 to you.
Very little condensation. The shed is mostly warner than the tanks, so no condensation. Also all the tanks are well covered with glass sliders. Thanks for watching happy fishkeeping to you sir.

Was thinking about doing something like yours. Do you get much condensation/mould from evaporation? I'm in Ireland, can get quite damp here. That's my only concern
If you well insulated and heat the room there's no condensation. If you heat the tanks higher than room temperature then you will have evaporation. Then condensation.
Australia watching.Do you know of the idea of running off back pressure? I noticed you didn’t mention it. It may safe you burning out air pumps every 6 months? I subscribe to King and Queen cichlids. It will do your channel no harm to get a bit more exposure. Good luck mate.

Hi I’m trying to find a 500w oil radiator but they seem very small do you know what make your one is please and how much of an area it would heat if insulated well like your fish room thank you
Mine is very old, picked it up for £5 at a car boot sale. I have seen new 650w rads for sale on occasions. Mine keeps things warm with the thermostat set at 50% of max. The more tanks you can squeeze into the fishroon the more efficient it is. Little air space more water. It can take I wile for all tanks to reach temp, but once there. They help keep the room warm to.

I don't know what type of floor you have.
My tip is to spread the weight out eventually over load bearing points. Ie beams and floor joists.

Don't know what it's called. It's just clip together steel racking. Like warehouse shelving.

If you well insulated and heat the room there's no condensation.
If you heat the tanks higher than room temperature then you will have evaporation. Then condensation.

Australia watching.Do you know of the idea of running off back pressure? I noticed you didn’t mention it. It may safe you burning out air pumps every 6 months? I subscribe to King and Queen cichlids. It will do your channel no harm to get a bit more exposure. Good luck mate.

I have seen new 650w rads for sale on occasions.
Mine keeps things warm with the thermostat set at 50% of max.
The more tanks you can squeeze into the fishroon the more efficient it is.
