    You were a lifesaver. I received a 22 qt from a thrift shop and didn't know what parts I needed, how to tell when it was made. You just saved me!

    Thanks, this answered my question as to why my canner was leaking. I looked at the gasket and it had a 9882 number, but my pot was an '81 date.

    This may be more advanced than most owners would like but.......
    I was 'given' a Mirro-matic 4qt pressure cooker. Model M-0404 made in '73. I wanted to make dishes from my youth where a pressure cooker was used pretty much all the time. I did the 'right' thing;bought a new seal & pressure valve. Before that I tried using it and the lid leaked like crazy and it wouldn't build pressure.....water leaked out etc. New seal and safety valve came. Same issue; not building pressure and leaking around the lid. Puzzled but not defeated, I reasoned out the design in my head. I examined the pot's flanges where the lid locks. They looked perfectly flat and still evidence of machine marks. Then I turned my attention to the lid. This has to be the last piece of the puzzle?! Logically, the lid had to fit tighter. These things are usually made of aluminum. I have slip-joint plumbing pliers that have no teeth. I put duct tape all long the top outside of the lid so as not to scratch/mar it. I CAREFULLY(remember, this is aluminum!) bent the locking lugs evenly toward the inside of the lid....just fractionally.
    When I dry fit the lid back on, I could tell immediately the seal was tighter. Fired 'er up and this was the first time I heard the weight 'jiggle' like it's supposed to. Obviously, you could bend the tabs too far or weaken the locking lugs. Use common sense and discretion... do a little bit on all the lugs and try it. More is NOT better, for those of you that are hopelessly ham-handed. Happy cooking........

    Thanks for explaining the change in gasket sizes after 1983. This helped me place my order for my older canners.

    I have about 4 Mirror canner pressure cookers. I just bought another one that is induction compatible. I mainly use them for making tamales in December. I canned my first batch of pinto beans 2 days ago.

    You're a dear. It appeared that you would rather be doing anything than wearing a company apron and talking about canner parts, lol. Thank you for the fine information. Now I can buy my replacement parts with solid knowledge.

    I have a pressure canner that does not have the date on it as it shows in the video here. my gasket falls out and I can't get it to seal. what do I do. the number on the bottom says, M-0522-22 qt. 284H. How can I get a new gasket?

    • @RedHillGeneralStoreHillsville
      @RedHillGeneralStoreHillsville  4 дні тому

      @@leroylawrence4967 go with the 3440 gasket. It works for any year. If you have an older pot you have to have this thicker version. If it's a "newer" pot it will just last longer.
      You can order it on our website here: www.pressurecooker-outlet.com/M-0522.htm
      It's also available on eBay and Amazon.

    I recieved a new sealing ring and lift pin assembly for my M 1512-11 mfg 4 92 from you. As you described i had steam escaping from the handle. I still don't understand to remove/replace the lift pin gasket. Can you help please?

    • @RedHillGeneralStoreHillsville

      Hi there! Step one: carefully remove the handle that is above the lift pin. Use a screwdriver and be careful not to strip it.
      Step two: remove the lock lever above the lift pin and pay attention to how it is placed - you'll place the lock lever on the same way once the new pin is installed.
      Step three: the old lift pin grommet is likely very hard and will be difficult to remove from the hole. Use a tiny screw driver or something to kinda chisel out the old neoprene grommet. Being very very careful to protect the aluminum of your canner lid. The number one thing is to protect your canner lid.
      Step four: pop the new liftpin grommet into the hole. It will be flexible and easy to do. Insert the pin into the grommet with the larger flat side down. ... When pressure builds in the pot the pin lifts up and prevents the lid from opening with the lock lever....
      Step five: Place the lock lever into position and reattach the handle.
      If you have any more questions or need directions over the phone, feel free to give us a call Monday through Friday 9: 30 to 5:00 p.m. Eastern time at 800-251-8824.

    I have a Mirro 12 qt pressure canner Model # 92012. The numbers on the bottom for date of manufacture I believe is 02 03 06. So is this canner more modern than the ones you show here in your video? Would you stock the parts for this one? This canner was never used. The rack is still wrapped in plastic. The pressure valve is rock hard so I know it should be replaced and probably the gasket as well. There is no safety valve under the handle. I wonder why this model doesn’t have one. Love your video! So informative. Thank you.

      Yes, this is a more modern canner. Parts are harder to come by for this model. The gaskets are still available. The over pressure plug model should be hard. Sometimes canners were made with no lift pin under the handle. Thanks for watching!

    I think I talked to you a year or more ago, buying my all american canner. I haven't used it yet. We need to get rid of the stove hood. Its too low. I had asked you about a gasket for my mirror canner. You said they were going to start having a company make them. You were so kind to me. I wrote your name down. Thank you I am giving the mirror one to my daughter and I do not have a book for the guage and how to use it. I wonder if you can buy one somewhere? Help

    Hello, I am wondering if you can help me locate a gasket for an older 22qt mirro matic pressure cooker. The model number on the bottom is hard to define but is probably 0522. The defining feature appears to be the weight of the gasket which is 6oz with a 14' diameter. Any assistance would very much appreciated. Thank you.

    How do I know if the pressure relief valve needs to be replaced? Mine is from 75 and has the metal hexagon type part.

    • @RedHillGeneralStoreHillsville
      @RedHillGeneralStoreHillsville  2 роки тому

      Bring your pot up to pressure. Does it blow out? If not, you're probably good to go. Rubber does get hard over time and the over pressure rating decreases. A good idea to have a replacement on hand in the event it blows.

      @@PureMediaCreative you'll find out once you bring the pot to pressure. If it leaks you need new gaskets!
