I had no idea the leaves were edible. I'm just about to start some slips. Thanks for this episode. The most informative video I've seen in a long while
Sweet potatoes always remind me of the stories my mom shared with me. She grew up in Okinawa with her mother and 3 siblings. They were very poor, her mother was often not well and not able to work enough to feed them. My mom told me if it were not for sweet potatoes growing in the neighborhood they wouldn't have anything to eat, it literally saved their lives.
I love them and the leaves as well. Adding the leaves to soups are a great addition of nutients or cooking them like spinach just wonderful.
Thank you for this moment to walk down memory lane, sweet memories of my mom.
I could watch sweet potato harvest videos all day! Nice little dopamine rush :)
We eat sweet potato greens in China and it's super yummy! Love your video!
Hi Christa, WOW!! Those sweet potatoes are amazing. You have really inspired me to give hay bale gardening a try. I think this will work really well here in central Texas where it can be so dry. I have to share that we have a man in our town who built his whole house out of hay bales - it’s covered over with stucco - very Adobe looking! And I learned that he is also doing a hay bale garden!! I am going to go over and visit him and see what I can learn. Also, thank you SO much for sharing the reading from the Book of Ruth. I SO hope and pray that my son marries a good woman like Ruth! I always talk to him about her good qualities. And yes, I will definitely pass on your message and blessings to anyone I cross paths with who feels downtrodden! Thank you so much for being you - you are such a bright light in my life!! And thank you so much for all you do and share!! Love and God Bless, Mary
WELL DONE! My Momma always planted ALL 'root crops' in straw bales. Different veggies required different orientations of the bales and specific 'mixes' of compost/initial grow medium. I do not exaggerate when I claim she could grow ANY root crop in straw bales atop a concrete slab. Sad to admit she wasn't as wise about the benefits of the 'greens' tho. God Bless Mrs. Swartz. You are a true blessing to our community....~Eli
Wow. I could have learned a lot from her! God bless you too, Eli!
@Prepsteaders....Sigh....So could we ALL have learned from her. Unfortunately she passed before I could learn a 10th of what she knew. I DO have her hand written cookbook but, what she knew about growing food would have taken an encyclopedia. Our loss. ...~Eli.
I started some slips the same way after watching a video from Danny @ Deep South Homestead. I'm so looking forward to growing them, they are ready to plant now.
You can do it!
Thank you for sharing your faith.
Thank you, Wendy!
Thanks for the booster at the end concerning using the greens! People need to be shown these kinds of hidden treasures of the Father these days! He gave these things to eat & enjoy.
Blessings! You are a wonderful woman. Your beautiful heart shines through to us viewers in every video.
Thank you for the kind words! :)
😄💖 I love your comment!
Just dont eat the greens of regular potatoes, they're poisonous.
@@heatherlovesdeuteronomy oh Yikes! Didn't know that.😳😳
Ive been watching your videos for a month or so and I now must say.. you are my new favorite youtuber! I love you knowledge, skill, and most of all your attitude and Godliness.. God bless you sister!

U have great knowledge with planting, and u r a great enlightenment to many of ur viewers.
Thank you. 🙏👏👍❤️🍂🍁🌟🥰✝️
Those are gorgeous! And the ones in the bales had absolutely no dirt to remove. It doesn't get any better than that!
I've always loved the sweet potato. A no-brainer grow & so prolific.
Yes! They all came out so clean. It was amazing!
I am so happy to know I can make sweet potatoes in bales..thank you so much! From Australia 🇦🇺
This is the most wholesome channel I've come across ,and the little chicks too cute.
Just found you, starting my straw bale garden this year. God Bless you!!!
I Love your videos. Bless. From Australia. More Please.
Walk in Beauty, and Love the Creator!
Thanks for the verse from the bible, for greens I lack the words to express your generosity, God is opening a new door for me be blessed as you bless dear.
I have lots of hay, Lot of space and I love sweet potatoes. SOLD. thank you neighbor (KY)
That's what I'm building my raised beds with. Straw bales break down but if you have them in a raised bed you don't lose anything. But you get some awesome soil to keep growing in. Yay.
I love sweet potatoes. They taste great, and they don't mess up my blood sugar the way regular potatoes do. Great harvest, Great video.
Yes! I agree, Jon!
cute stuff, starting my slips, its cold by us so can't start too early, tomorrow we are getting snow. brrrrr, my fav is to bake cut open with olive oil and garlic and salt, even the dogs love them. Also makes a good dip.
What a beautiful harvest!!
I grow the vines in the house over the winter specifically for the greens.
😄💖 Wow! That amazes and excites me. Growing indoors to add to the outdoor harvest season😃
Love to know how you do it! I pay $2.29 lb for these amazing Japanese sweet potatoes and it would be great to grow one😄😄😄
Wow! I'm impressed 😁. I'm definitely going to try this method on our new Florida homestead ❤️! I love your message. I end all of my videos with "spread a little kindness and encourage one another today". The world needs more kindness!!
WOW - AMAZING - JUST 5 MINS AGO I WAS THINKING OF THAT VERSE!!!
LOVE THE FACT THAT YOU SHARE THE BIBLE WITH THOSE WATCHING YOUR VIDEO!
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!!!

Thank you! Yes, I will have enough for all winter long!
@@PREPSTEADERS that's awesome, love sweet potatoes but have never grown any
Wow, I Did Not Know You Could Eat The Leaves. Great Video. 😁
They taste soo good
Yes in the Philippines they call them (poor mans salad) it,s a main food source there.
The leaves are rich in LUTEIN an important mineral needed by our body and to tell you, the sweet potato leaves are really good for salad and my whole family is enjoying it weekly.
Hi Catherine. Fancy meeting you here! Love Susun❤
Yes in my country we eat mostly the sweet potato leaves we put it on fish like tilapia we just boil it with onions and tomatoes and then we make salad the Asian way
I agree the the sweet potato is God's greatest garden gift because it gives two crops and it us so easy to grow.
I have a couple loads of aged decomposed wood chips I will be planting mine in.
Sounds like a great idea!
Those are huge sweet potatoes. I love sweet potato leaves. I usually blanched it then add a little Apple cider vinegar, sliced tomatoes, scallion, onion, ginger and season to taste (salt). Delicious!
Wowww this is really an amazing idea, the sweet potatoes is so healthy. Thanks for sharing this. Now I realized that if you plant ginger it will grow so healthy and give you a good harvest.
Thank you. May God bless you and your family always.
Thank you, Maxxus! God bless you too!
Nice haul for minimal work! You made my day little sister :-). Blessings to you!!
I have GOT to try this!

Wow! Talk about an educational video! I have eaten sweet potatoes ever since I was a kid. My mom and dad always had us kids working in the garden, I never knew you could eat the leave, roots and stems! Thank you so much for sharing, I just recently discovered your Chanel and love what I'm seeing and hearing! :-)
Sweet potatoes are my jam
Wow!! I'm definitely going to try this method on sweet potatoes next year. Love the scripture. One of my favorite.
Thanks for sharing!
I would shot the deer for meat. That would be even better.
Oh my thank you so much. I never realized how nutritious the leaves were. We are harvesting our sweet potatoes this week and the garden is full of sweet potatoes leaves. God bless.
Thank you - best 12 minutes I’ve used all day
Leaves is the best!!
So glad that you eat the greens! They are so excellent with grilled steak sliced and tossed on top of the leaves that's been stir fried with refried onions and a splash of fish sauce!!! Soooo yummy!!! Your channel is one of my favorites! You are so awesome!!!
BEAUTIFUL ! ♡
@Sun Set....AND the sweet potatoes also!....LOL....~Eli.
Thank you, Sun Set!
AMAZING!🌻
Whole lotta whoa! Cool. Thanks for the idea
I very much enjoy this channel.
Thank you for all the wonderful information!
Wonderful sweet potato harvest, I just need one of those potatoes to grow some slips...lol I will dehydrate the leaves thanks so much.🍠🍠🍠🍠🍠
Yay! You knocked this one out of the park, thanks.
I was raised in the country and never knew you could eat sweet potato leaves. Thanks for the tip.
Amazing! Thank you!
Thank you, Bonnie!
That's awesome👍
SO AWESOME!!!!
I was laughing at your deer comment. They are relentless.
Well done you. Am green with envy!
Great video... It is very impressive how clean the sweet potatoes were when harvested. Can you grow other vegetables in bales - carrots in particular? We live in the Canadian prairie/parkland area where the soil has a heavy clay base. This makes it necessary to 'scrub' carrots and other ground vegetables.
God Bless and thank you for the channel.
Michael from Canada
Christa, you radiate the love and blessings of Ha'Shem.
Shalom.
Use the young leaves as vegetable. They're great! I love them steamed.
Great idea! Startlets? Lol Slips!
Thanks you. God bless you
We use to make salad the yong leaves or adobo
I'm a new subby, So happy to have found your channel, thankyou so much for sharing so much "great pleasure to watch and learn video's". May you be blessed, Good Day.
Awesome! Must try
Incredible harvest from so little space , work! and time. Thank you!
Love this idea of growing sweet potatoes in straw bales I am going to try this when spring arrives, thank you for sharing.
Thank you for the update of the garden.
Thanks babe!.
So glad I found this, I have a round bale that's no good for the horses, now its not a waste!
My goodness those are nice sweet potatoes! I'm going to try to grow them. Very exciting! Thanks so much and many blessings!👵🙏💖
Awesome. Gonna try this.
I never knew that Swt taters were so versatile and nutritious. Thank You!
Great info
I like your description very much. I like your chanel too.
I love this so much
Wow those are gigantic potatoes! And your basket run it over...☺
I really appreciate your videos God bless
I'm so impressed! I look forward to trying to make a straw bale area for next season...will look back for your info on how to start. Love your videos & especially the Bible verses at the end.
Great harvest. Thank you for sharing.
Such a satisfying video 😍
Absolutely wonderful!!! I love your videos. Multi-purposeful.
Thanks heaven on earth sharing from Kenya be safe and caring thanks for tips
Cool. I didn't know you could eat the leaves from sweet potato plants.
Yes! And the stems are even edible!
@@PREPSTEADERS Must be why the deer go after them, they instinctively know they're good for them. :)
That is impressive! Ty so much.
Thank you dear! And thank you for the Word!
Wow!! My tomatoes and pole beans do extremely well in the straw bales. I haven’t tried root veggies yet. Will need to next season. Your sweet potatoes look great!!
Wow! What a great yield and out of only two bales. Venison is also good, especially which sweet potato souffle. :) got to have a tall fence to keep those rascals out or a plotsaver type. Bales made a great garden. I hope the rest of it did well too. It was really dry here from mid August through September. Good job!!! Keep the great videos coming
Yes, Bud. It was dry and hot here and I was not able to water these at all! They had to take care of themselves but still came out just beautifully! ...oh yes! A good Venison steak next to a baked sweet potato is excellent eating! :)
@Carpenter Bud...LOL. I was thinking the same thing about the deer 'problem'. I don't a great deal of meat but, ANY 'critter' I see inside MY garden fence goes to 'freezer camp' via air rifle. JMHO....~Eli.
@@PREPSTEADERS that's great that they came out that well without watering! Yes to the steak , but I'm a Southern boy. Baked is real good, but sweet potato souffle with a measure of coconut mixed in, a graham cracker bottom crust with melted tiny marshmallows and pecans on top! The only thing you have to decide is what corner of the plate to put it on..Ha!
"little christmas gifts" she says as she pulls out the potato the size of my car
Awesome!!
What a clever idea!...the sweet potatoes are so clean...
Tqtq for sharing....💖💝
