Canned and fresh figs are the clearest food memory I have from growing up. My sister and I would practically fight over the slice of lemon my mom would put in each jar. I now have a tree propagated from the one that my grandparents place, purported to be over 100 years old. I plan on acquiring a total of ten different varieties of figs as part of my food forest, each one having its own unique flavor.
Love you, sister in Christ! ❤️
Holy Spirit touched your heart as you read the scripture and same with me I teared up with you. I love my fig tree as well. Haven’t seen you since 2023 pray all is well. Never Give up keep the Faith. Thank you Jesus
Praise God for you dear Sis!
Love ❤️ your presentation. You have such 8 peaceful annointing. Growing up in South Texas we lived in poverty But God provided a fig tree and a peach tree that we could eat from on occasion.
Thank you so much! And thank you for sharing how God provided for you. Wow. If we all planted a fruit tree, surely no one would have to go hungry.
@@PREPSTEADERS Yes God is good, All the time
Wow they looked good
I am new to growing figs. I have 4 different varieties plus a mystery fig that I just purchased today that a young man working at a plant nursery was given by his boss to attempt to revive. He did a wonderful job bringing this fig back to life, and I just so happened into this nursery for the first time today and asked if they sold figs. He told me that he had one out back that he was working with and brought it out for me to see. It was beautiful! He was so proud of his little tree and happy that it had found a new home. It was such a delight to see a young person so passionate about plants. I won’t know what variety my new tree actually is until it bears fruit, but it is going to be fun watching it grow and guessing along the way. Thank you for making this video, figs are not mentioned much as a preparedness food source, and they should be, as they are so very nutritious and delicious.
I planted two this year. A Celeste and a Brown Turkey. I live in Texas so I hope they do good. Praise the Lord.
Thank you for the tips and encouragement. You are always a blessing. Take care and God bless you sweet sister.
God bless you young lady.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful and tasty idea... God is so Great to bless us over and over again with His beautiful Creation and all He provides us. Take care, be safe, God bless
I look forward to your future fig videos 🙏🇱🇷♥️
Fig jam!! Yum!
I also live in Zone 7b have three fig varieties and am waiting for 4 more varieties. This year I learned about harvesting leaves and drying them for tea. Having some lemon grass and fig leaf tea as I watch you.
God bless U, sweetheart Christa, beautiful stories about Ur fig trees and how to grow it.
U take me, back in time, to where I was born in Lebanon.
We had two fig trees, one purple and one green.
The purple figs , we’re huge, and the green ones, were the regular size, just like Urs.
Thank you, for sharing, and not to mention, aside from being delicious, very healthy.
🙏🥰👍❤️👏✝️🌻🌹🍂🎃🍁🦃
You are such a precious child of God! I look forward to each and every video you make. Thank you. It is dark out there but our Lord Jesus is the light of the world as you know full well. I’m glowing with you sister.
Your are such a beautiful human
I love you all God ALMIGHTY bless you all!!! Ahmein and ahmein! Thank you sister
Thank you Miss Christa for another great video. I look forward to seeing the future fig videos..!
Cuttings are amazing!!
I planted one this summer! I’m so excited now.
I am always excited when I see that you have a new video posted. Your suggestions are always inspiring.
Thank You for your light! The current state of the world makes me so sad. I pray every day for God’s return! Lord please lead us on the path you have provided us. Amen
My beautiful fruit from my fig tree, gets devoured by birds.. Full of goodness, too..
There are a myriad of tactics people use to protect them. The best one I have seen is a mesh "blanket" that fits all the way over the top surface of the bush/tree and protects most of the fruit. Like this: amzn.to/3HnxSlb
I recently caught a few glimpses of you singing background at the Gaithers Christmas, you had a joyful smile and worshipful manner, Congrats!
I learnt a new word. "startelings" I'll have to add it to my vocabulary. Love your work. Yes it's getting dark out there but one small spark can light up the whole room.
Wonderful presentation! Thank you! Every year my mom ships me figs from her trees for preserving and she includes the leaves as well, which when dried, make a nutritious tea. Of course, as in most tisane, I checked with my physician to make sure she approved me drinking fig leaf tea. 😊
I have 5 fig trees planted in my orchard here in mid-Missouri. The temperature gets down to -10 degrees F, so I need to cover them each winter. This will be their third winter in the orchard.
Charles DeVier, Hello! May I ask what type of dog trees u have, and could u tell me what their height will be when full grown??? Thank u and have wonderful day!
I share the need to grow things that will produce year after year...to that end, in my yard is a huge fig tree, an American Hazlenut, a Chinese Chestnut, a Crabapple and two Witch Hazels...plus blackberry and raspberry canes and muscadine vines. It's a start! Your videos are sych an inspiration. ..because YOU glow with God's love! Keep on being the light to others!
How wonderful, Gwen! That sounds like a great victory garden!
LOVE THIS, THANK YOU
God bless you Sister. I don't think we're going to have to worry about food. Check out the Euphrates river and all the other rivers in the world. God is going to come rescue us soon!
I love my fig trees!Mine are houseplants,I'm Zone 6.Next month,I'll prune them, start new trees w the cuttings&give away the rooted cuttings.I got my start when someone gave me 2 sticks w roots 5 yrs ago.My figs are brown&very sweet.
Figs are great 👍🏼. Had no idea how they grew though. Thanks for showing 👍🏼✝️
I have always loved figs! My grandma had two fig bushes. She made various cookies and candies out of them but always let me have a couple fresh figs.
I bought a Chicago Hardy Fig at the Nashville Farmer's Market on the day I left for home after Rory's festival. Up here in Central NY, I have to bring it inside for the winter. It has just dropped it's leaves and once the weather turns cold it will be stored throughout winter in my cellar. Hoping it buds in the spring when I bring it back out! I've never eaten a fresh fig, but so want to try growing some as everyone says they are scrumptious!
Hi Sweetie! Gotta Love figs and Your trees are very nice and producing well. I have a few Celeste and LSU Gold trees that are taking off and doing great. God Bless and thanks for the perfect scripture verse! 🙏❤
Fantastic video! You’re always so good at bringing new ideas to people! I’m gonna try this as well as dates once I get moved down west! Thank you
Looking forward to more info on figs...
I planted a fig tree last spring, and it did well through the summer.
Awesome thank you keep on keeping on with Jesus
Hi Christa,
Always love listening to your Bible readings - please never stop adding them to then end of your videos.
Here in England, there is a saying among gardeners, “If you can’t grow grass and potatoes, you can’t grow anything.” I would add, among other plants, fig trees. I agree with you, they are easy to get started from mere small cuttings. I recommend fig jam. Absolutely delicious!
All the best from Phil.
Well done! I think I'm zone 7A. Speaking of cuttings I remember a friend of a friend with a small orchard in their large suburban backyard, with one particular tree that had 4 fruit, 3 others grafted in, if I remember apple, orange, pear, and peach! What a use of limited space. Ha, I was waiting for the Genesis fig leaf reference... a lot of symbolism with figs in the Bible. Well thanks again for sharing and God bless those with ears to hear sound wisdom for the days ahead! And as I consider all the adverbs and modifiers emphasizing God's power at work within us in Eph 3:20-21 I just want to go out and bear all the more "fruit" for Him!!
"Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled."
Matthew 5:5-6
I love this video and I’m intrigued! I hadn’t considered figs but I am now and I’m looking forward to learning and following this with you! Thank you ! God bless you!
PS...Eph 3:20 is my life verse and exactly the Scripture I've always shared with Jessica from Roots and Refuge that opened the door to driving to Rory's to meet her with meeting you being an unexpected blessing above all I could ask or think!
Good video , thanks for sharing , God bless !
Green canned figs with blue cheese on a pizza!....The best! I didn't even know that there are many different varieties and the typical Biblical fig tree in the middle east differ much from the ones we have in South Africa! You will always be my inspiration! I nearly bought some chickens!!
Canned green figs.... interesting! Do you purchase them that way, or are they home canned?
I'm sure they have their very own flavor that is unlike anything else.
Are they sweet at all...?
Nou praat jy my taal Belinda. Yummmmmy! Seëninge en groete van KZN.
Figs are awesome !
What I Know about them is keeping them pruned promotes fruit production .
They will attract yellow jackets like other fruit trees .
Enjoy learning from your channel !
God bless you !
We have 2 Chicago Hardy fig trees here in Upstate NY. Our first one was girdled, so we chucked it in the compost and got a new one sent to us.
Surprise! The one we "chucked" grew back and is now potted.
We had 4-5 figs off the new one.
Hoping to get enough to dry
I was just going to pitch the idea of having a fig tree when I saw your comment. I live in north Iowa. It gets pretty darn cold here, too. Do you plan to keep your tree potted indoors? Or do you think it would survive outside?
I agree about figs being a good food to grow. My father-in-law had a fabulous fig tree in his yard. Fresh figs most of the year in our location. A video on making fig jam would be very helpful. Fig jam canned in mason jars would be a good addition to any prepper's pantry.
Red wine fig preserves are my favorite. I use Stella Rosa black label. 😋
Dried figs are awesome! If there's any way you can produce these in your backyard, you need to do it! You can dry them you can freeze them you can can them.
And fig leaf tea lowers blood sugar! And tastes good too.
AMEN CHRISTA SWARTZ Have a blessed Thanksgiving.
God bless you !
I love figs !!!
I have quickly become a huge fan, myself! :)
HaHa chuckle, C.O.T.I. of the Day Award about your sister & the fig leaves!
These are dark times, but Jesus is the light of the world, and we are His extensions. My pastor recently preached on Genesis 47, where Jacob blessed Pharaoh, when he came in, and again when he left. He told us we would expect the blessing to come the other way since Pharaoh was the richest, most powerful ruler of the day. Yet a poor shepherd blessed him. It was because Jacob knew that he has the source to be able to truly bless - God. And just as you always say, we need to bless people, because we are the only ones who have the One from whom all blessings flow. We’ll keep shining and blessing until the Lord comes to take us home. God bless you!
I love Figs the only ones i buy are the ones my super market has, they are from the middle east .They are very chewy but very good.
I have a couple right now that I got from cuttings from a tree at my husbands office. It’s a Italian honey fig. So they’re green. I also bought 6 more and took cuttings from my brother’s as well. I will have 9 figs in my yard. I never plant anything anymore that’s not edible. I also have camellia sinensis and can share that too. It’s the true tea plant. I also have pears and grapes, a huge garden and chickens. My honey figs are now 10 years old and 15’ tall. I also live in zone 7b in southern MD. Love you channel!
1MSally1, Hello! U spoke of sharing Camellia Smesis, tea. R u speaking of a plant I myself can grow or the leaves from ur plant??? I’ve never had this tea and very much would like to try it. How might I get some of this tea to see if I like it first??? U said “share “ but I’d greatly pay for some leaves. If I like it, I hope I can ask how to get the plant to grow my own. Thank u and have a wonderful day!!!
Thank you for your video.
Thank you, Ruth!
#289👍🤓👏👏I love figs!! I want one of these trees like a neighbor once had for 50 years. Until it was cut down for a driveway😝
We live in Waco. My in-laws have an amazing fig tree in their backyard. Not sure what variety it is. Oh wait yes I do… the sweet and tasty variety!
Try different verities.some come in all at once, good for drying some come in late, some early.
We love figs as well. We grow brown turkey figs here in southeast Georgia and they are very prolific (fruit and propagation wise). My dad absolutely loved my strawberry fig preserves. I miss him, but will always have those memories. Also read can use the milky substance (not sure proper name) but use as rennet substitute for cheese making.
We are in zone 7b too. I just ordered a fig tree, and am so excited! Always look forward to your videos. Blessings 💗
I've had a Chicago Hardy in the ground for several years, unfortunately planted in the wrong place. This year purchased a Celeste and a Conadria, which are still in pots. I'm in zone 6a.
❤ I love this!
LOL, I can't believe you shared the "Adam and Eve" story bit! That was supposed to be our secret! 🤣
One thing. There are many different colors of figs. There are many that are green when they are ripe. Most honey figs fall in this category. The rule on a fig is to pick it when it's droopy and almost ready to fall off. They don't ripen after they're pulled from the tree like other fruits
I have two Italian honey figs. A lot of people tried to tell me they weren’t ripe. Lol. They had no idea they were green figs!
Ripe figs chopped in food processor and put on toast is delicious.
I am jealous. I want some mullein!
You're a beautiful lady! Keep up with the good work you're doing.
excellent
Fig cake. Fig Newtons. Fig Preserves...
I have a huge fig tree that I grew from a tiny one. Ive not propagated it yet
great!
You video I enjoy very much
I made green fig jam last year from my end of the year figs. You should try it.
Renee Clark, Hello! Is the fig jam made the same way as other fruit jams??? If not, could u give ingredients and detailed steps??? Thank u and have a wonderful day!
agree. perennial is the only thing I grow
I really enjoy figs. I wonder if they can be canned, pickled or fermented?
Canned. I ferment stuff but figs sound unappealing.
Christa, Hello! I am 61 years old, I don’t know much but have been learning, Along with a regular garden, I also want a wild edible garden. I have sunchokes, lambs Qourters and Polk weeds that grow regularly n my yard, and of course dandy lions and hen bets, I am n zone 7, but not sure if I’m n 7 b, and do not know how to find out which I am n. U say u sell ur cuttings, is there a way that I might could buy a few cuttings from u??? Not long ago I came across ur channel, and with every video I watched, ur voice is soothing and relaxing to the heart. What I’m saying is, is that u do God justice, with others, I do not hear God through them, their words, I hear deceit and want to run, u, ur words, the look of u when u speak of him, his words, I can feel him, God said he’ll show us signs through things or others, u r a gift to him, because of u, he has chosen u to show us him through u. Thank u
🥰🥰
I love fresh figs right off the tree. Don't know if they would survive in North Idaho though. Loving your videos
I can't get to my figs for the ants ... Any suggestions on stopping these invaders. My fig this year was ten feet tall, I did prune it down because I like to look at the leaves...and that's all the ant's leave me. I was told they don't ripen off the tree.
Your's are beautiful.
Thank you for sharing
Pet armadillo?
Thick chalk line around the tree trunk
Petroleum jelly painted around the trunk in a wide band. Double sided sticky tape? Ant traps on the ground? Molasses mixed with borax 2:1 ratio will kill the entire colony. Put it out when you have about a week of dry weather and leave it. Works in the house too.
You need to apply tanglefoot to the base of the trunk
" The best time to plant a fruit tree is yesterday" im in zone 5 & my fig trees are still small and struggling.
Check the guy who trims to 3 or 4 ft and 3 stems.
What is the camera person doing to make you laugh so beautiful? ☺️☺️
❤
Thanks so much for sharing. . I guess Olympian must be late season.
I wonder if you're familiar with Sister Mary and Brother John of God's Handmaiden and Lighting the Way Ministries? I believe they're in Cross Plains.
How long do you get fruits off the fig tree? It looked like they might straggle along quite a while once they start ripening since they are in different stages.....? Thanks for sharing! I'm hoping they grow where I am!
I get one Breba crop in the spring, very large figs the size of my palm. Then starting about a month later the rest begin to ripen. I couldn’t keep up with them. I was getting 1-2 gallons a day! My trees are about 8 years old now. I prune them heavily every year after a good freeze. I’m in zone 7b as well in southern MD. I have Celeste Italian honey figs that are green.
Cant say I have ever thought about a fig tree.
I wonder if they grow in Southern Illinois?
💗💗
KJV Revelation 22:20
Did you move? You said last year you lived in zone 7a. You don't want to use all your space up on one thing, apples, almonds, pecans and more. The fig tree that I had experience with rooted real easy, I had one a guy gave me for buying a couple trees from him and got a couple of figs off of it bur dissected it to get more trees and over or under watered it and lost all of it, the fruit was not very sweet but someone told me they are supposed to get sweeter the second or third year.. I was thinking of you earlier today when I was up-potting the largest of my pink guava seedlings, you can grow it in a pot indoors in the winter but if you only want things that will grow in your zone outdoors then I won't ask if you would like to have one, the strawberry guava are still tiny, they actually are not all up yet I don't know how many more will germinate. I was wondering if they let a person set up at those festivals and sell stuff. How much is a booth space to set up and can a person make it profitable? If I did that I would need to buy new tires for the truck, right now i really don't have enough of anything to sell to make it profitable but as far as plants go I have a lot of seedlings started and, I have some very sweet yellow dragon fruit and some red dragon fruit that was not near as sweet but I don't think it was ripe good yet. If you live in zone 7b you can grow the same thing as I can and don't have a greenhouse. Actually unless you have a heated greenhouse the temp inside will be the same as outside if the sun is not shining. I have been wanting one across the front of the house for years. Hugs for you
How can I get the fig trees I live in Tennessee about 3 hours above Nashville who sells them and can you give me names of the big trees and will they grow in my area
Have transients, would figs feed in the fall?
Few people know that it was a fig that fell on Sir Isaac Newton's head,
and thus his nickname.
I have one fig tree that never bears. Maybe I need to get 2 for cross pollination?
I have grapefruit trees in kansas. Not surw what to do.
🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸
My wife and I also live in zone 7B whereabouts do you live at in 7B
I live in south carolina, my figtree is huge about 8 years old and have never gotten any figs. ???
Prune it. They mostly fruit on new wood. Sounds like it needs a kickstart.
It needs at least 8 or more hours of direct sunlight. Check and see how much it receives
