- CAR STOLEN while SAILING Indonesia
We are offshore sailing once again in our sailing catamaran, crossing the South China Sea shipping lane and leaving the beautiful, remote, paradise that is The Anambas Islands and making a bee line back to Malaysia and the the equally isolated and charming Tioman Islands. But this time we are not alone. we are sailing with our friends, firefighter Josh who completed his first ocean crossing with us back in 2015 and his girlfriend Courtney (whose car got stolen from Auckland while she was sailing with us) will also tick her first offshore experience off on our live aboard sail boat the good ship Javelot. Indonesia must qualify as one of the safest and cheapest places to live in 2023, what do you think?

BACK STORY
In 1997, after rowing at the Atlanta Olympics, Rob rowed a tiny 7m (22 foot) plywood boat 2,500 miles from Tenerife (Canary Islands) to Barbados (Caribbean). It took six weeks for Rob and rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, to complete winning the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race.
Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and his wife Rachel purchased Javelot, a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, We set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know their boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn (then 13), Declan (then 11) and Ivan (then 8), in tow. Through trial and error we have become confident wayfarers, kind of.
The plan? To sail around the world.
Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we hope to retrace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz

No old tiki tour here in America. Sounds like a great phrase especially when traveling
Time to start new trend in America Mark 😊
Again love the videos and hope Finn gets his strength back.
Thank you very much.
*6:00** THAT IS FASCINATING!* it goes to everything in public health and medicine being taught (and legislated) from the extremes. _JC
That's what we thought too. We still retrograde wherever possible but it all makes us wonder.
Loved seeing your motorbike cruising. Very nice that you took care of that momma cat and her babes.
Thank you Jana
I use the phrase I am going on with my rat killing… or we are going gallivanting around town… awwww the kindness toward the cats is admirable. I am very much into you way of presenting you alls journey. Much love to you all!
Thank you Preston, yeah gallivanting occurs in nz too.
Just got to watch this video and loved it, guess you know I will have to go back and rewatch it several times. I sure would love to be there. Hope Finn gets his strength back as soon as possible. And here in Texas we just call it "going cruising for a bit". And why would you ever want to "fit back into society" when you are living in paradise now.
Thank you David. We would not find it easy if we had to stop.
Finngers crossed here that Finn gets back to 100% soon!
Thanks Sausage
@@TheCruisingKiwis You're most welcome!
The old tiki tour if definitely a kiwi thing, we even call a random shopping trip around Auckland a "tiki tour". Although there also was those contiki tours in Europe years ago too! is that still a thing?
I looked Contiki tours up and they are still a thing. A NZ based travel company that caters for 18 -35 year olds in 75 countries.
PS: Glad to hear Finn is recovering, and back to the water!! I'm sure, if he did it once, he can train hard to catch up and get awesome results!! Go NZ!! Go Kiwis!! ✌️👏👏👏
He's up against it to be sure.
You’re all seeing and doing things most of us can only dream of. Thanks for bringing us with you! Hope Finn keeps getting better, Covid can take a lot out of you unfortunately. Safe travels!
Thank you. Any illness at that time, only weeks to go, is a tall order.
I am sorry to hear Finn is not 100% yet especially with his race only 3 weeks away....of course, I am hoping that will change quickly and he will be able to win his race. You all seem to be enjoying your friends and touring around the islands. Stay safe and have a nice evening!
Thanks JC Finn has a big challenge to overcome for sure. Wish he was with us to enjoy and recover.
It was put together by the NZ Govt Tourist Bureau way back in 1946...and the meaning back then means the same in the 21st century. I guess by now, you've done your own search.
Thanks again for sharing. Take care.
Thanks Bryan no didn't take the small amount of time to look it up. Very interesting.

@shellsea9520 that's lovely. Isn't it amazing the hole animals leave in your heart when gone.
Great vlog!!! Sorry to hear about Finn’s road to recovery may be a rough one, but he’s tough! Sending lots of love & well wishes to the whole family…including the kitty!
Thank you so much Tammy!
Love the episode, thanks.
Thanks Charles.
Here's hoping Finn gets better soon. Stay safe you guys
Thanks very much Wyatt.
Beautiful vblog 😊
Thanks for sharing your fantastic incredible experience of traveling around Asia.
Take care
Safe sailing ⛵️
Cheers from the Tron 😊😊😊😊
Thanks Rob
What a wonderful thing you did with the kittes and their mother!!
Are you planning to end soon? Those last words from Rachel puzzle me, but I guess they were just a saying...
And yes, Indonesia looks such a great, healthy and nice country.
Watching again Declan and Ivan's night shift, (as well as that glorious clip from Austin Powers 😂😂 -comedy genious-) made me remember Declan's bright idea to turn of the IAS to save power and the freak you may have gave the big ship by appearing out of the blue on their screens... Great and pretty accurate NZ technology you have on board!!👍👍
Thank you, no plans to finish sailing. Just know it would not be easy if we did.
@@TheCruisingKiwis I guess so!! Keep going, where ever the good winds and life takes you.
Finn will bounce back. It is nice to share what you have learned with friends and family by having them on board. You are in a very nice part of the World and food poisoning is not much of an issue since most meals are prepared in sauces which kill off a lot of bacteria. Have a good week.... Ttfn Jim
Thanks Jim timing is the issue for Finn.
I thot for a moment Rach gonna take em kittens away 😁
We are thankful the mother turned up!
We in America, call it a Sunday drive. It's when you do some site seeing by using a car.
Thanks, Erich. love a Sunday drive. But not on the golf range.
So sorry Finn is not up to full strength yet. I hope he can fully recover, quickly!❤. As for a tiki tour, no, not an American term. We’re a little more boring, just call it “a scenic tour.” 😐 My husband is Kiwi so very familiar with the terminology and loves hearing it in your videos. 😀
Thank you Ginger. Big G'day to hubby!
Safe travels......
Thank you Jeffrey
I've never heard of a tinky tour or a wop wop. What the hell. You kiwis have the strangest sayings. I'm not complaining. I love them. I'm in the US. Alaska.
Thanks for letting us know, Leanne. Every culture seems to have its crazy sayings huh
No tiki tours in the USA that I'm aware of. But love seeing your tiki tour!
Thanks Matt
I am so sorry that Finn is still feeling a bit under the weather. He will recover soon I am sure. Does Finn have Coloboma? I ask this with absolutely no malice or disrespect. I was just wondering if the glare from the water affected him more severely. Love the channels and content!
Non taken. This episode explains Finn's eyes. We discussed it in several earlier episodes at various times. ua-cam.com/video/9LR7rmIVCf4/v-deo.htmlsi=SwVxoubttmLsNi-O
I have never heard the term Tiki Tour. But I will be using it now. As we tour quit often the Caribbean Islands.
Thanks Jerry, gosh I see you've been busy doing a catch up. If you date to take on the challenge of doing a tiki tour starting from the beginning here's the playlist 😊

Thanks guys!
Cheers Trev. Did you try and contact via messenger? Are you on Instagram?
@@TheCruisingKiwis Yeah, was only about them photos of the cat attack thing i was talking about, No I don’t have instagram, well I’m on the but i have no idea of the password.. do you need me to post on your behalf?
@trevhedges209 if you don't mind sharing Trev, yeah we are off FB yet again.
@@TheCruisingKiwis done!
5:14 @Rachel you may find it very safe on smaller islands in Indonesia where most people know each other, but as Indonesian, I can confirm that you definitely can't leave your motorbike with the key attached on bigger city 😅
Fair enough, I suppose. Thanks for the perspective
We need some explanation on how you ended up on the wrong side of the island?
Yeah, bit of an faux pas there. It does deserve more explaining.
👍👍👍👍
With the stuff I have seen Rob eat, I would imagine you guys have cast iron stomachs.
Seems to be so got now, at least.
I think that a "wee tiki tour" is a definite kiwi-ism. But, "wop-wop"? Aussie's say "woop-woop" (the 'oo' pronounced as in 'hook', not like in 'hoop'). "Back of woop-woop" means "middle of nowhere" (because woop-woop is already somewhere remote). It may even be a West Aussie thing as 1. there actually was a place called "Woop Woop" in WA, and 2. the native WA language commonly used two words repeated to signify places that had "many" (eg of whatever "woop" was/is)?
How interesting!
In Texas we call it " riding around " Rob.
Cheers TO, I reckon it's time for an upgrade. 😊
Feeling u Finn!
U got this!!!
Just pump yourself with all the supplements Bro!
Thanks Stephanie. He's up against it.
Back when American families actually did things together, it was called going for a drive or even a Sunday drive. The term walkabout has entered the American vernacular even if driven in a car. Keep at it, Hamills, and you'll soon introduce tiki-tour to the American language. Take care guys.
Thank you Daniel may well repeat when occasions present themselves.
Poor Finn has been in the wars. Hope chemical recovers OK for his race. You guys will be getting a reputation as the mad cat people! Can't blame you. They are pretty irresistible.😸
No Rachel will get that reputation, not quite so the rest of us, me, thinks. Perhaps.
Nice work Kiwis. Unfortunately it's not a matter of if but when the local food catches up with you 🤢
Yeah nah. I say hopefully.
⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵
Hehehe . In South Africa they will take you and the bike.
😄
**who is that guy! you have another kid?* they really do grow up so fast. _JC
Josh is an old friend long over due a visit.
Tikky tours ? Not in South Africa
Thank you, good to know for sure.
*2:00** it's like being a freedom fighter, yeah?* except you arent paid directly by the CIA and dont fight freedom directly. _JC
Intriguing take on it JC. They infiltrate who knows where.
I can comiserate wtih Finn having got COVID for the first time. Not fun but at least I have Cruising Kiwis to keep me company.
Sorry to hear you've not been well.
:)
:)
I'd be more concerned about eating the raw animals from your last video than warm food. That grossed me out
Hehe yes you were not alone there.
Nope not a thing in Canada…
Yeah I did wonder thanks!
