I like the episode where Turk broadcast over the wrong radio channel and sent 12 ice cream trucks to a bank robbery! Oh boy was the chief mad at that one..
I believe the 2nd and 3rd season was in Edmonton, while 1st and 4th was Toronto. The actors and writers wanted to isolate themselves from distractions, you know, the reason anyone comes to Edmonton.

SCTV I'll have to catch it tommorow at 9 Today's Wednesday,Thanksgiving Eve 2022. Right now I'm watching turkeys getting dropped from an helicopter, WKRP.
I remember the episode where the pregnant girl gave birth in the limo on her way to prom. Turk was filling in for the driver and had to ask a cab driver how to deliver a bastard.
Ok.I grew up watching SCTV from the very beginning to the end.I do NOT remember this at all.I remember John played Harry Filth😅😅😅,but not this one.Ty for a lost gem
This is a parody of the 1970's Canadian-produced "Police Surgeon" TV series. John Candy had one of his early acting roles in one episode (in a non-police role).
Forgotten by many about TGPD was it launching (or reviving) the careers of many actors; Philip Seymour Hoffman, John Houseman, Micky Rourke, Vic Taback (among others). In season 6 they “jumped the shark” by giving Turk a Partner! What Police Dispatcher has (or needs) a partner? The fact she was in a wheelchair (injured in the line of duty) flew in the face of them working on the third floor where in season 3 they had the episode where Turk complained there no elevators in the building! So how did she get to work in the morning? I hate continuity issues…I didn’t mind that Turks new partner was played by Sybil Danning though…
Remember the episode "Rain rain go away" when Turk left his Hot Pocket in the microwave too long and the resulting smoke set off every sprinkler in the entire precinct?
I came to read the fascinating, original, compelling "SCTV is better than SNL" comments. I agree that SCTV is the best comedy ever made. But c'mon, SNL is a different beast anyway. The two shows also pulled from the same pool of talent and have a shared history. As someone who has watched SNL, off and on, since 1975 I can assure the haters that Lorne Michaels has allowed the mocking of all comers, hell, even Sarah Palin hosted after being parodied. The subtext is clear, these art critics don't like Trump mocked. These are the same people who don't want politics in their (fill-in-the-blank). The dumbest take has got to be not wanting politics in comedy, or punk... or music... or any human endeavor. It shows they haven't been paying attention to anything for a very long time. If it weren't for Canadians, the US wouldn't be as funny. If that 1972 Toronto production of Godspell hadn't happened...
I don't like this. How would a cop know where to go, much less even to go, without a dispatcher? Yet these people made fun of dispatchers. Imagine a bunch of cops driving around the city, not knowing where to go. That's what you'd have without dispatchers. They deserve more respect than this gave them.
I'll never forget the episode where the electricity went out citywide and Turk kept dispatching by yelling out the window with a bullhorn.
I remember that episode . Dr. Joyce Brothers was a guest star
One of the great ones. John Candy can't be replaced.

nope, never...

He was my favorite as a kid.

Classic Turk.
Yes, that episode was the same season that "Turk Gruman - police dispatcher" swept the Emmys
That's our Turk!
I'll never understand why the movie never got made . Maybe someday.....
To this very day, I scream in my sleep. 😱🍦💤
Its about time police dispatchers were honored.
In a true light.
It's impossible to watch anything with John Candy and not laugh. He will always be missed.
So true. The "Mike Chisel: Small Town Dick" sketch was one of my faves, too.
My dad was a sound engineer working on SCTV at ITV studios in Edmonton. Laughed all the time.
Oh that’s fascinating. Oh he must have had a blast!

Can it really be the case that I've gone my whole life without noticing that every SCTV show was on Thursday nights at 9?!
Every single "Bobby Bittman special" that he plugged on the Sammy Maudlin show was always scheduled on Thursdays at 9 as well
Thursday night at 9 was the slot on SCTV where shows went to die.
Wow! You're right! Even their SNL parody was called Thursday Night Live.
It was the original "Must See TV".
Unless it was preempted by the North American women‘s lacrosse finals.
