Hey I have a lot of experience with jade plants. You absolutely need to trim back each branch by at least 5". The reason the branches have bent down is because they have too much weight and not enough strength developed in the trunk. Cutting the ends up feels extreme but it will help the plant in the long run.
Hi! Thank you for sharing this great tip. 💚 I am all for pruning and would have done it but the Jade plant owner did not waned me to :) Eventually this needs to happen and I will be there helping. Green Cheers 🌱
I so needed to know this !!!! thank you.... I am so afraid of triming mine back...I never had a jade plant and received one huge pot with 3 in it ... at least 20+ years old each ...and the limbs are so week. I am leaving them in the sun for now until I can get help to seperate them into theire own pot...so scary!
Wow. Very impressive repotting job. It DOES look complicated. Thank you for sharing your expertise. 👍🏻🌻I didn't know that the jade plants propagate through their leaves, so thanks for educating us as well. Excellent video.
You should never water jade plant after disturbing its roots You need to wait a few weeks for the roots to heal And the soil you are using is bad for succulents 2 of the biggest mistakes you can do when repotting a jade plant are here in this video ;)
I guess the plant will adapt (since it was already growing in the same kind of soil and a selfwatering pot, it seems to me the roots were not too damaged so I hope plant will maybe be disturbed a little and adapt), hope so, I would love to see how it is doing after year or so ... The big main stems are so nice and thick - it would be great for some serious pruning to make it look like a bonsai three, right?
Awesome video...I have a Dracaena fragrans in a pot with a wicking system...I still check the soil weekly and the plant soil stays wet according to my moisture meter..do you think I should remove it from the wicking system or will it be ok
Hi Kim, Just make sure not to fill up the reservoir as soon the plant uses all the water. Allow the soil to dry well and then refill the reservoir. Also, the soil might not dry as fast as it should if the plant is potted in a pot that is too big for it. Best to use pot that is just 2-3" larger than the root system. Green Luck & Thank you for watching 🌱
Hi! Make sure it gets bright light and feed it ! Next video will be about best environment, fertilizer and basic care for Jade plants. Hope this will provide more information. Stay tuned 🌱
You did a great job doing that by yourself I just repotted my Jade plant this summer it’s gotten so big it’s the 3rd time I’ve had to repot it in the 6 or so years I’ve had it. I bought it from IKEA in a 4 inch pot for about 3 or 4.99 and now it’s in a 10 inch large and deep terra cotta pot and it doing great. It looks like a professional grew it and I’m hardly a professional. Thank you for your fabulous videos, I find them to be very helpful.
Thank you for repotting huge jade. I have inherited a large bent over Jade plant that needs major pruning and Straighting 😢. I like the pots you describe but adding to your information i will be using Foxfarm (salamander) soil wish me luck. 😅.
I have a Jade Plant that was very nice now it is rotting and dying :( do you have an idea what the cause might be? I live in the Mediterrean so we have loads of sun
Hi! Sounds like your plant is over watered. Best to take it out, check the roots, remove any bad roots and pot your Jade plant in a fresh well draining potting mix or special succulent mix. Water ONLY when the soil is completely dry all the way through and make sure the pot has drainage hole. Hope your plant will recover 🌱
Hi April, Thank you for watching 🌱 Most of the time, you just need to adjust the watering frequency. Also, check your Jade plant for pests. Some other reasons that can cause this is low light or cold temperature.
@@Mycityplants thank you. I checked for pests none no bugs here. I moved Becky “that’s her name “ transplanted her, moved her to a warmer spot. I live in Maine. So it’s cold and drafty. Put a grow light on her. Oh yeah she’s big and heavy so I had to trim her a lot because she was leggy. Now I’ll wait hopefully she does better. Thank you for responding.
Glad your plant is pests free!! I am sure the plant will be happy with all the adjustments and, when Spring comes, will grow many new leaves for you ! Don't forget to feed it, starting in March. When and How to fertilize houseplants bit.ly/3teZEaw Green Cheers! 🌱
Hi Mary, The most common mistake with a. wick or other irrigation systems is that reservoir gets refilled too often. After a plant (jade plant or other) used all the water from the reservoir, we need to allow the soil/potting mix to dry out (for succulents completely dry out all the way through) before filling up the reservoir again. Thank you for watching 🌱
it looks better in the new container but it is too weighed down by all those long branches with heavy leaves. It needs a really hard prune. I'd give each one its own pot and get them pruned.
WOW thank you so very much... I have the exact issues with a 20+ years old jade plant... but mine is very fragile as it was move twice before getting to me ...and it lacked of light exposure for too long... so very limpy limbs and fagile ... need luck to seperate them !!!
Hi France-Josee, It might be best to prune your Jade plant back so it can get more energy for its recover and grow stronger and healthier stems. Thank you for watching. Green Luck! 🌱
Hi Andy, Yes, you can use this self-watering insert for your Aloe plant. Remember to wait until the potting mix is completely dry all the way through before watering. Green Cheers 🌱
Good video. I have a very large, top heavy jade plant that needs pruning badly as branches are tipping over. Its October in Canada so my question is can I do this pruning outside its growing period of spring/summer? I know it may not grow extensively now but I'm afraid it might fall over. Thank you.
Hi! Thank you for watching! Yes, you may prune your plant in fall. Best to cut stems back in a few steps instead of cutting all back at once to get them to the desired lengths. Trim each stem back just 2-3 inches. Wait for 2-3 weeks and trim back 2-3 inches more. If you notice that the plant is not handling the shock well (drops leaves, etc), stop and wait for a longer periods 3-4 weeks before cutting a bit more. Green Cheers!
@@Mycityplants Thanks so much. I've already attempted this a few weeks ago and I have to say small buds/leaves are appearing where I cut. I'm so very happy because I was extremely nervous to be doing this in the Fall & chance that i might lose my very old jade plant.Thx again!😀

It is still a mess. Should have been cut back, and not planted all in one pot.
Hi! Thank you for watching!
I would have pruned this Jade plant but the owner of the plant wanted me to keep it as is and just repot it :)
I tried the kind with the wick and my plant drowned. I assume now that there is a difference in these self watering planters???

That thing desperstly needs a prune. Seen videos on how to make them look like mini trees. Its really amazing.
