NOTE: I’m repotting my Variegated Jade Plant here. All the information in this video, including the steps taken and the mix to use, applies to all the many other types (both species and varieties) of Jade Plants.
Jade Plants are tough and attractive succulents that thrive in containers. I’ve grown them both indoors and outdoors and they’re as easy maintenance as it comes. This is all about repotting Jade Plants including when and how to do it as well as the best soil mix to use.

Your Jade plant is absolutely BEAUTIFUL Nell
Lyn - I hope you're staying safe & healthy! I was so happy to find this Variegated Jade.
And the pot; just love it! Things are blooming here in the Arizona Desert. Hugs to you across the sea!!! xxooo Nell
I love Jade plants, I have a mini and I am looking for a variegated one this year. I love that pot too, it is gorgeous. Thanks so much for sharing this video it was a relaxing one to watch.
Holly - I love this Jade & the pot just as much. It's back in the dining room with all the other plants & is doing great. Nell
Really great video! My jades have gotten so big, it's definitely time to put them into a bigger container. Great video! Thank you so much for sharing these beautiful plants with us. I love all the philodendron varieties and I've been trying to collect a lot of their varieties for our house. We just bought our first home on a half acre and I can't wait to get it all set up inside and out.
Hi Stacey! I love plants & love sharing what I've learned about them. My philodendron collection is fast growing. Congrats on your new home - how fun!! Nell
Just repotted my jade. Thanks for the tips!
I just repotted two jade plants a couple days ago. I wished I saw your video earlier, I think the soil I used is too dense and the pot does not have enough drainage. Thanks for the advice!
I have a small(6-8" diameter x 8" high) one, regular non variagated, that I bought at a local nursery here in Lake Charles, LA that is still in the black plastic growers pot. I made the mistake of slightly overwatering it a few days ago and of course, some of the leaves/petals swelled then fell off. I'm using the event as an opportunity to repot it in a slightly larger terra cotta pot using some Miracle Grow cactus and succulent potting mix. May I've learned my lesson about watering them. Easy does it on the watering. From now on I'll just give it a few sips, say every week or other week and leave it on the dry side for the most part. I keep trying to remind myself that while it needs hydration and nourishment, do it sparingly. You have a wonderful channel with a lot of good information. BTW, I also have an Echeveria(Perle von Nurnberg) I overwatered as well. It too shed a few petals. Hopefully I think I've learned my lesson.
I love seeing all of your new finds! It's so exciting to find new plant babies to care for. :) I am looking forward to doing some repotting of my own! I have a lot of plants still in greenhouse containers I bought them in that need to upgrade.
Hi - I buy new plants on the regular & love the hunt! I have so much more repotting to do & want to get it done before the intense Tucson heat sets in. Nell
That CACTUS behind you. My jad plant is 20 yrs old and last time I repotted one branch broke. May I send you a pic and ask for a brief tip on repotting (pot size etc) Yours is my new go-to gardener!started with your string pearl vid (5min? Yes please) went to your page and I have soooo many plants you share tips about. I’m in the NE in Pa. hope you and yours are safe and healthy.
Beautiful plants,love them ❤️
Love your energy and enthusiasm. Subscribed! We got a plants in common being in the desert. Great videos, TY 😇
I realize Im pretty randomly asking but does anybody know a good site to stream new movies online ?
@Tobias Reuben I would suggest Flixzone. You can find it by googling :)
i have never had any luck at all with jade, but i do like them, just too prone to mealy bugs for me, so i stopped buying jade years ago, i do have one mini, that is doing well, so i will repo that soon and leave it alone and hope i dont kill it haha
Thank you for sharing on how repotting Jade. Ihave also a jade and iwant to repot it . But i want also a varigated one. Once again thank you for idea.
Wow love your new look
God bless you for your good heart 😄😄😄😄💖💖
Another great video. Thanks for the info
Thank you plantburglar! Nell
You grow your plants so well, everything looks so simple and easy! As much as I try to take care of my plants, they do not turn out so well. The leaves of my jade plants have started curling and and yellowing! I water it once in ten days! Wonder where I am going wrong?
Sangita Sethi, I truly understand! I keep buying Jade plants and I kill them every time. Well, I am not going to give up, this summer buying another one.
I water mine once a month and it is very happy
Hi - Well thank you - I've been working & playing with plants for a long time! It sounds like the roots are staying too wet. Jades have thick leaves & stems which store a lot of water. A chunky well aerated & well drained mix is what this plant needs. Nell
@@JACKIELVSGOD That's the spirit!
@@stutteringtom1 Thats what I do with mine. Even a bit less in winter. Nell
What a gorgeous jade plant! I’m definitely going to keep my eyes out for one!
Yes, I was very happy to find one at my local nursery! Nell
Just watched your old rosemary pruning video and was disappointed in it, good to see your videos have improved so much. The camera quality, editing, and relevant content makes a huge difference
We all get better as we get more experience. All UA-camrs & bloggers say this - thank goodness! Nell
Thank you for the video! I am always worried I will break off the leaves of my succulent while repotting!
You're welcome! The leaves break off easily but I only lost a couple. Even small jades are heavy. Nell
I really enjoyed your video. Thanks so much!
Nice u have good job
Yes, I'm fortunate because I love plants! Nell
I appreciate your videos, sharing your knowledge about plants. Thank you! I am trying to turn one thumb green. Your videos are helping! 😊👍🌱
Fabulous thank you
LOVE that pot! The jade looks great in it, and now I want one. I’d love to know where you’re putting it in your house in relation to windows and light (I’m in Phx, and I’m trying to figure out how much is too much light for some succulents).
Noell - I love that pot so much that I got 2 of them! The other holds a Neon Pothos - stunning combo. Most of my succulents indoors are in east windows. I'll have to move them back a bit as the sun gets stronger. Nell
Good clear info.. Thanks.
I love your channel, posts, website, and plants!
Thank you so much! I love plants so much. Nell
You should remove the soil break apart the root bowl and then any access roots that are longer than the root ball should be trimmed which stimulates the roots and new growth
Hi, I bought a Jade plant in a soil mix. Is it ok to move the jade into a soilless succulent mix? If so, should I remove all the soil from the root ball and wash the roots?
3:46 is when jade thing starts
Great info 🙏🙏, but the entire video, if was to convey repotting jade, it could be done in max 2-3 mins. Not a criticism but may start some quick shorts now that youtube has them.
Lol i have been doing it wrong for ever lol i have all mine in what would be basically clay. Just repotted one and it was a solid brick of clay lol figured I’d look up what they like.
Hello, Nell! Thanknyou for this great and helpful video! Could you pease tell- I have a jade plant with the old soild rock hard around the root ball - do I need to soak it off before repotting - it does not even absorb the water any longer. Thank you! 💚
I can't find your Amazon page to buy the mixes
Thank you very much God bless you 🙏 in Jesus name amen 🙏❤️
Does anyone know if the multiple trunks on the jade plant are connected by a combined root system? Can you safely separate the trunks and pot individually as separate plants?
How do you trim jade to have it grow bushy and prevent being top heavy
What kind of lighting do you use for this plant?
i prefer the mini jades my self, i always water when i repot, i could not stand them not being watered, they would die on me if i did that, when i put from one pot to another and the soil is bone dry, yes i will water it when i repot, i just never heard of anyone not doing that haha, i know i am set in my ways
Thanks for info. Takes to long to get to the point
I agree, but did not want to say something and be rude! I had to quit after 5 minutes.
How do you get the jade trunk to be so thick? I've had one for almost 2 years and the trunk is still very thin.
Very helpful video. Do you put them in the shade or indoor after repotting?
Mine love both. For dark green semi shade if you want to lighten the green in them full sun.
Good question. I would like the answer as well
I live here in Victoria BC canada i need to repot my jade plant is it okay to put decorative white pebbles instead of the clay pebbles? I had a hard time to find one
I just used cactus soil and perlite. Is that ok?
Rocks at the bottom has no added benefit actually harms the roots.
My parent named me after jade plant
Too many disparate layers of soil-mix ingredients
