The amount of self awareness and patience you have to be able to teach this well is incredible.
His talking voice is nice af.
I'm sure he's a complete Baritone. *sigh*
I'm sure the overtone training helps. I've been doing it for a month and my voice has filled out quite a bit.
Yes, when I first listened to his voice I got the same chills as I do when listening to Alan Rickman. and that's something
@@unm0vedm0ver i also noticed my voice sounds a bit deeper and fuller since practicing
I love this guy, his voice does sound just like Jeff Goldblum though.
My bucket list goal in life is to throat sing while doing the moon walk ... it is my retirement goal!!! Probably won’t be a pretty sight.
I tried throat singing while doing the worm and now I have no sensation whatsoever below the waist.
Atleast someone with a decent life goal. I can't stand the whole workaholic live your dream(job) bullshit anymore. :D
Giovanni I hope by moon walk you mean actually walking on the moon. While overtone singing Bowie‘s Space Odysee. THATS bucket list material! :-)
I just realized how cool it would be to be the first human to sing kargyraa into space while on a moonwalk. Should've followed my childhood dreams lol
@@Glenfuch that is because your root chakra went into overdrive from the sheer amount of testosterone you produced at that moment.
Wow. That's cool. I'm tuvan and I impressed by your skills.
*[starts Alex Glenfield throat singing videos trip]*
I'd love to go back to Tuva some day! Beautiful people, beautiful land, beautiful sound: rare that they all go together
Clearly the best instruction. Clear, profound, wise and effective
Thank you, but there is one thing that could really make this video truly the best: a few point of view shots of packaged toys being opened. Or just a skinning of a throat to reveal a larynx.
@@Glenfuch why these two seemingly unrelated tasks? 🤔
@@vertsk8er419 that's sarcasm
You're a great teacher and musician. Also, I like your speaking voice and teeth.
I have managed to hit them in 10 minutes, thanks to you! Great teaching.
I learned throat singing by studying huun huur tu, I nailed down the three basic styles but now I'm playing around with it, learning how smart the soul is, I appreciate your video and reminding me to start with the basics, the reason I love throat singing so much is because its your own vibration, depending on what emotion you're holding is how your vibration will sound, I'm making music and I'll share it with you when I get my harmony together, I have much respect for you and your work, ANAMI BLESS YOU💖 -YE
How Smart The Soul Is: I like that. Good title for your autobiography.
9 years later from that other video I watched from you. You definitely have grown professionally. So cool
Great display of intent to teach and emotion from beginning to end. Thank you for taking countless hours to make this video for strangers to view. I watched all 37 minutes and 36 seconds and I enjoyed every second of every minute. I most appreciated it. Stay blessed and in harmony fellow man. 🙏🎶🎵👍
As a singer (amateur), I've always been fascinated by throat singing but thought I'd never be able to do it without decades of formal training. With just this video, I was able to do it (badly) about the midpoint of the video! I heard the beginning of your next video and you were criticizing this video about how formal, and thus hard to watch, it was. Speaking for myself, I actually appreciate the formality and structure. I watched quite a few "learn throat singing in x minutes" and learned nothing from any of them, so thank you for the formal video because it put me on a path that I thought I'd never be on!
Intelligent, thoughtful, committed, clearly communicated teaching. What a star!
Bro, I learned this at 1:00 AM and now I’m so fascinated with it that I cannot go to sleep🤦♀️😂 so cool tho!!❤️❤️
Dude that's so crazy how shrugging increases the space for air!!!
I absolutely love your videos, they give me goosebumps by making me wonder at the beauty of our natural instrument and nature itself. They make me have deep conversations, it's hard to explain.
Today I was attempting to sing overtones when I noticed this cat that was staring at me, almost as if entranced. I changed location, all the while still humming, and then again noticed it staring at me from behind a bush through leaves: maybe it just wanted food 🤷♂️
Wow, nine minutes in I thought to try out singing "E." I think I throat sung, but I definitely heard my first little overtone! I was putting this on my bucket list, but now it's probably going to be one of my hobbies!
"The Mastery of your voice and mind is in your WILL TO LISTEN" I LOVE THAT! ( last line of your poem)
I was simple chasing rabbits through the internet when I discovered this video. I’m not a singer, or even a musician, but this is fascinating stuff. Thanks. 👍
This is fuckinig Great!
Ancients are surely proud
I think this video conveys really deep insight that goes beyond singing of any kind. As a 30+ year practitioner of martial arts, taiji and qigong, the advice and admonishments you mentioned are almost verbatim what I have been taught. The synergy amongst pursuits is truly striking.
Very much appreciated comment. Thank you.Well observed, as I've applied principles of aikido to this teaching method.
@@Glenfuch It's a full year since discovering and commenting on this video, need to find out what the aikido principles are. Also need to start practicing and learning. 🤭
This is by far the best vid teaching throat singing I've found 👍
Interesting. Overtones have a higher scale than what is typically found upon an instrument. However, it does explain why I much prefer to play very deep tones on stringed, bowed, wind, and reed instruments. I find the overtones add a certain depth to the sound. I've found on the keyboards I have, typically the lower notes have a major third (or at least what I'm most sensitive to) on the lower tones, if stacked, create an augmented triad. Combined with the other overtones, they have quite a unique sound. I enjoy the overtones too as for me they create much more melodic scale than aolian and ionian.
I honestly never thought I could sing because I was either singing in overtone series (not throat singing, but actual singing using the overtone scales in my singing voice), or I was singing in different modes altogether, long before I even knew they were a thing! I also had a very quiet singing voice, partly because of the shame I had over singing in different modes and scales which got me scolded several times, but also because I have a smaller lung capacity and had a respirator down my throat for several months as a premature infant which caused some scarring. Then I discovered some white handed gibbons at the local zoo. I started imitating their calls, and while learning to speak gibbon I found my singing voice as a more opera style of singing. I find that also uses some of the tongue, cheek and lip positions as throat singing. Then I found your videos!
Never had it explained so well
O MY GOD!!! That is awesome!
this is insanely helpful
This is amazing.
Thank you Alex!
I'm very glad to see a tutorial on this. I started overtone singing about 6 months ago, and I'm really enjoying it, but feel like my progress has stalled. I think I was getting too tense and impatient, so this has reminded me to be more mindful. Can't wait to practice! Thank you!
Excellent. Looking forward to the next lesson!
Thank you, Alex!
Really helpful. Thanks so much Alex!
Love it Alex. Fantastic work
Marvellous lesson. Thank you Alex!
I look forward to the future ones.
This is amazing! I watched the 7 styles video years ago. Decided to revisit it after watching lots of Khusugtun and saw you had another video out! This is an incredible lesson!
I watched one of your first video 9 years ago, I'm glad to see you sing nowaday ! You improved your skills so much !
I’m looking forward to the next video!
Brilliant video
You're amazing. Thank you so very much, Alex. What a gift this is
Thank you very much, Alex, for your labor in the overtone singing diffusion.
Fantastic! Thank you!!
My first video I've seen of yours I want to give a genuine thank you for all the hard work tackling the technical aspect, providing framework, and even connecting the practice with it's health benefits, editing all while not being overly serious I love your playful attitude and I am grateful to receive teaching from your level of proficiency.
Thank you for this video!
Thank You for your guidance
Thats very well explained. Thanks a lot for the video. helps a lot!
Thank you for this expert, detail and bigger picture instruction.
I went from not really doing it to being able to at least a little just while watching this and using your instruction. Great work
Your awsome at explaining this. I need a lot of practice common but I finally heard the Overtones
I just started studying music about 9 months ago and I just wanted to tell you this video really helped me put a bunch of the pieces together and I wanted to say thank you. The overtone stuff was awesome and that’s why I came here but I believe it’s called “music theory” some of the things you were talking about and it was very enlightening for me so again thanks this was awesome! You’ve got a new subscriber.
This video is something beautiful. It's been a long time since I've been so enchanted by myself, thanks to your vision. You speak very beautifully about lack of meaning in words, we do not always need them to dispel doubts. I feel connected to my emotions after practicing for almost two hours. I'm glad I was able to let myself be guided by this particular video you created. Thank you!
Absolutely superb explanation and demonstrations. Thank you very much!
Thank you for this video 🙂
Thank you so much.
Wow, great. A new vid. Thx Alex!.
this is wonderful ! thanks so much !
Amazing! Thank you so much ❤
Thank you!
Your videos and music are amazing.
Thank you so much
Best tutorial on the topic!
Very lucid and clear instructions. You're a gifted teacher. Thank you. I can do this.
Thanks Alex, I managed to start my first ringing overtone from your videos. You have the best system I think.
Thank you Alex, very helpful. I've been practicing throat singing, but your tutorial adds a lot to what I've already reached.
Gosh..this is a great tutorial Alex..you're a fantastic teacher!!! Really appreciate your time to do this.
Thank you so much for this video Alex, this is a fantastic tutorial! You’re a Great teacher! And an excellent singer. I love all the therapeutic thought and guidance you bring into your teachings too
Amazing 👏
OH MY GOD I HEARD THE WHISTLE!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! IM GONNA KEEP WATCHING SO I CAN IMPROVE IT AND MAKE IT LOUDER YOU'RE AWESOME!!!!!!
its nice how relaxed im feeling right now...your voice is so calming...but at the same time...im feelin excited coz i cant believe of the sound i was able to produce while practicin along with you
It's wonderful how relaxed your mind becomes when you let your voice do it's thing. How at start you try to make the overtones by consciously moving your mouth, but after short times of practice, I only imagine the sound and it is produced without any effort. It feels like your mind and body is finally at rest after a long day.
Really digging your videos. The Tuvan band, Alash, came to my town to play a concert and it inspired me to learn throat singing. If nothing else to use it when chanting. I really appreciate your method and spiritual approach.
Incredible teaching! The little steps and the small details in between really helped me to learn the technique without getting discouraged. I haven’t found anything out there that comes even close.
Great! Thanks a lot for this :)
I will take notes man, Great class and awesome teacher, thanks a lot man.
This is so awesome, very meditative too makes me feel grounded. Working on getting those overtones louder I can hear them but they are quiet only started yesterday though so time will bring it.
Thank You so much for taking Your personal free time to teach others and well as me. Without your time and this video; it would’ve taken sooooo much longer to learn this.
Amazing.
Thank you for this video. Your view of the singing is really deep, and the way you explain it was touching. You also focus as much on music theory as how to feel the sound in the body and mind. I'm a throat singer since several years and I was recently training by myself at this kind of "back to basics" techniques, focusing on small details. You told me what I didn't know I needed. Thank you.
I have been trying for years to find somebody to teach me, and followed your posts for a while. I tried to do it my self (meditation time). Everything you said in this tutorial, am with you (not "overton-ing" yet, but as you said - enjoy the process). Keep posting please. Thank you so much.
You are such a good singer! I watched your 7 styles and wanted to know more about this!
This is the best video yet, concerning this subject matter. Thanks for sharing with us. I appreciate this more than most may think. Other similar videos are more monotoned.
Great video and excellent didactic skills. You're a great teacher with very sound knowledge, Thank you.
The poem is divine
WOW GREAT OVERTONES !!!! LOVE IT ;)
Alex that was amazing. I was also pretty impressed with you quoting DUNE. Seriously speaking, that phase has stuck in my own head for many years. Peace
Glad you caught it. I don't remember which one I used. Was is "Without change something sleeps inside of us and seldom awakens" or "It is by will alone that I set my mind in motion"?
I came across your video as I have been writing a song for over a year that has required me to learn troat singing and build some instruments.I keep destroying my voice when throat singing but this has cleared up a lot, thanks so much!
I used to be a singer. I kinda gave up though. This form of singing is new to me though. Makes me want to give it a try.
Good quarantine lesson, thank you
Thank you Dr. House
Can definitely feel HOW MUCH time you spend analyzing countless for things, and experienced...
Thanks a lot for this incredible amount of experience, knowledge.... :)
Best Gratitude! : )))
Thank you, I learned how to basically overtone sing by reading an article written by a japenese guy, but just the basics of producing a few and getting comfortable with it, then I saw your video. Prior to that, I hadn't seen any non-tuvan/western mongolian sing overtones that well. I was blown away by your 7 styles video. Thanks for putting this out, just started but already helping so much. I hope to go to Tuva some day. I play jaw harps as well, one thing I notice about the Tuvan style of playing is how they create only the overtones which sound purest, ie those which mimic their singing the most. Thanks.
Hello Alex, first off I want to say that I love this video. It gave the most useful tips for overtone and throat singing, are you going continue with more tips because I want to learn how to significantly lower the volume of the fundamental tone and mostly hear a single over tone.
Өте дарынды адам.Көп Рақмет!
Your videos were extremely helpful for my own journey with figuring out how to overtone sing. It was challenging at first to conceptualize how to produce the overtones but with practice I was able to figure out how it works. Thanks for sharing these excellent explanations 🤔💡
I was fascinated by this last night and I tried following your advice this morning. I trained the I-U-OU-U-I the most because it felt like something was there and it developed into something bigger. Now it's 7pm and I can definitely hear some strong harmonics in the U vowel (I'm French, maybe that helped!) Thank you for this amazing video, it's so soothing and brings us back to the essentials :)
dude freaking reading my mind and knowing what i was doing without ever..... freaky, man
More to come I hope!
This video is amazing in its level of detail. Thank you!
Good to hear there is some detail. I haven't looked at what other overtone singing tutorials have been uploaded, and I hope this one adds something to the ongoing dialogue.
By far the best tutorial on overtone singing! Will def contact you for a lesson once I have nailed down some basics. Right now I am beggining to hear the overtones slightly, when going from "ee" to "u". One thing I find difficult is to avoid singing nasaly, I have to constantly remind myself to focus on the throat.
A stunning sharing of a profound experience. It is special for me to listen and experience. most helpfull thank you
Thank you so much for this video ! While trying to go from "oo" to "ee", I noticed that the French "u" sound is right in the middle and the overtone became very loud! Impressive
u r awesome!
God damn man you are skilled
