How much more of an effort is required to shift with this rod setup over the factory setup? I'm doing an ls swap on my gf's 80 and I'm about to change the headers for hooker manifold to use the column shift because i couldn't find a mechanical setup that would work. Do you think its easy enough to find the right gears without bouncing through them?
I can’t give you a solid answer at this time because I haven’t driven it. I will say that it rows through the gears just fine while sitting in the garage.

Hopefully you noticed the shift rod hitting the header in 1st
Yeah, I think I fixed it. Probably not going to have it down in first anyway, unless I just want to expend the remaining tire life.

you shoud have bought the kit with the shift cable.
Went with the rod because everything I researched said the cable wouldn’t work, or if it did work, there was more involved with making it work.
