I was 13 years old when Combat hit the tv screen. I'm 73 now and I STILL enjoy watching these episodes. The battle and bombardment scenes were top notch, the acting was superb, and the stories, whether about battle situations or human interest were just nothing less than excellent. Maybe that's why I still watch the show here on You Tube

I remember watching this as a kid back in 1963 and being scared to death that Cage would be discovered to be an American soldier when he attempted to cross the bridge with the baby and then being scared again when Saunders and the rest got caught in that artillery barrage. To watch a show like this as a little kid was quite an experience. You live through the episode, you get scared, you get happy, you almost cry. Looking back, it was a privilege to feel all of that by just watching a great TV show.

Lately now I have been watching one episode after another and I think I am getting more out of them than ever before....When you yourself have been a Soldier, and you cross many bridges through this life of ours, you look at a show like this from a far different perspective than you did as a small boy watching it...This show is rich....It is like old gold that just got rubbed off to sparkle yet again for for this Soldier, and I value these episodes, and lessons, more than ever...

At 61 having raised 5 children I feel that way watching any of the great old movies having watched them as a kid, now again approaching the elder years. Too bad my grand children won’t be able to watch quality shows like this on TV. Everything has turned to garbage with entertainment fir the last 25 years.

I'm 64. My third time around. I was a kid with my plastic helmet and tommy gun and plastic grenade with the cap inside in front of that TV once a week waiting to throw that grenade. Since I've been older now watching on internet, I see how much of the drama and moral issues I didn't understand as a kid. We kids played a lot of army OUTSIDE, not in front of a screen with buttons in our hands.

I watched this with my dad. I was 7 when it debuted. My dad enjoyed it because it was a tribute to the infantry and not the glamorous flyboys. After the show, he'd spread out a map of 1944 Europe and we'd trace the areas shown in the show that episode. I'll always be grateful to the show and my dad for teaching me about WWII.

I too watched this show from the original airing in 1963 of the series. My father was one of those “flyboys” but their survival was worse than anyone could imagine. He was shot down on his forth mission and spent the next 5-1/2 months evading Kruts in occupied France.

The Sarge was most disturbed by the beauty of innocence of the infant in a world gone mad with war. I’ve heard horror stories from Vietnam Vets killing off villages during the Vietnam War in Veterans hospitals as a nurse in the 1990’s. Some I can not repeat. War does horrible psychological things to soldiers. This episode was most touching and common place with WW2 Veterans. The greatest generation of Americans the world will ever see.

"One more for the Road" [1963] First Season; Episode #29. When I saw this Classic Episode I realized that there is more to life than just war...The Baby represents "LIFE" and the Soldier represents "STRUGGLE, DEATH"...This is what made Combat such a unique Series. There are so many neat scenes with Cage and Sgt. Saunders with the baby you wonder in the back of your mind that under extreme conditions: "God" is still in control...The writing is excellent even if something like this never happened...The innocence of a baby, the raging madness of a war. Mankind must overcome it's violence and Killing...This cute little Baby shows that there is still hope for the Human Race...Glenn E. Smith Jr.,01/31/2015, Saturday, Vietnam War Veteran...>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

This brings back a good memory of my best friend, and my youngest while she was still a baby. My friend was a street wise kind of guy. Had the reputation of being one of the toughest characters in town. Even had the obligatory broken nose as a testament to his toughness, and regular fighting. I came to my work place one day to get something from the store, I worked at a little neighborhood store in the worst neighborhood in town. My friend Kim was in the back parking lot talking with 3 or 4 very young wannabe tough guys. As I was getting my kiddo out of her car seat this pair off hands came out from behind me and grabbed my baby out of my hands. I had a fist doubled up and pulled back as I turned around, but it was no threat, it was friend Kim. He started said "Hi." to me then held my baby above his head and started talking to her. I looked over at Kim's tag along buddies. They all stared with very confused looks on their faces. Here was a guy they more or less idolized for being so tough, for his reputation of being the kind of guy you don't mess with, and he had forsaken their company to play with a baby.

Great episode, I could only imagine having to care for a baby behind enemy lines, Favorite childhood military series , one of the reasons I joined the Army, Vic Morrow made a great squad leader , I would have made him a E-6 Staff Sgt instead of an E5 Buck Sgt, every squad leader we had in every company over 4 years was Staff Sgt E6. In my 60's and Now I understand why my dad only liked to watch the all of his old westerns which I now watch as well!

Television sets, even black and white, were still not household commons in my country during my elementary school days. Those were the days my cousins and classmates who had TV used to tell stories about COMBAT. I got to watch very few episodes and I don't even remember which, watching them every little chance I get. Now at 70, it's good we have UA-cam and all the advances in technologies. Thanks to the tech people for the internet. Now, I've found some of my favorite episodes watching the series. One more great example of the acting skills of Vic Morrow. I found this episode particularly moving when I remember how Vic actually met his death in a helicopter accident on the set of "The Twilight Zone Movie." He was actually carrying two little children in his arms, a little boy, and a little boy. All three died at the scene. This was a tragic foretelling of a life taken much too soon. But thank God we still have his wonderful performances to remember on film, forever. RIP, Vic Morrow, Renee Shinn Chan, and Myca Dinh Le.

I finally DID it! I searched ALL the episodes from the first, looking for when Kirby finally got his BAR! He was complaining about it in early episodes. He was supposed to get the BAR when their BAR man was killed around episode 8, I think. He was the ammo bearer. He knew how to service and use the weapon. They devoted a third of an episode as Kirby extolled the virtures of the Squad Automatic that surely HE would inherit. Then they dropped the issue for 10 or 15 episodes. Now, right here, at Episode 29, he "blink" appears with the BAR! Wow. My father was the BAR man during the Korean War, so this has been a "mission" for me. No explaination for the delay. He just pops up with it. Dad said that his shot so fast it was almost like a "single shot weapon" on full automatic. You could barely save any of the rounds in the 20 round magazine if you squeezed the trigger on full auto. "It cut things in half," he said. The armorer "took good care" of Dad's weapon he said. Good to know that in episode 29, Kirby finally gets his wish. Now, you guys sit back down and let me watch this masterpiece of early TV drama.
