It's true, Slovenians love Slovenia. We are very protective of our country. Nature, culture and traditional Slovenian food. As I see you like Slovenia. That makes me happy. It's interesting to hear your impressions of my homeland. You're right, Slovenians are friendly, but it takes a while to open our hearts. Have you read anything about the Counts of Celje? Our history is very interesting. You'll probably find a book in English in the library. That way you'll understand everything better. In Celje we have 2 castles in which the Counts of Celje lived. The book is called: The Counts of Celje Today and Never Again. Enjoy my, our Slovenia. Happy holidays and a Happy New Year. 🇸🇮🎄✨️

The fact that the distance between the city I'm from to the city you're living in is about the same as the distance between the city you're from to the city I'm going to be living in is wild, too. Especially considering videos about Slovenia are extremely rare. That's a funny coincidence. Anyway, enjoy your stay! Thank you for kind words. Slovenija is my country and i love it. You are welcome here among us. Try to visit Kranj, Šmarjetna gora, maybe grad Strmol. You have to go to Ptuj, to eat at "Rozika" restaurant. Bloška planota is amazing and if you decide to visit Celje, take a rout through Tuhinjska dolina... Me, for ten years now, since i have more time, still finding new places to go and everywere people are good. From Ljubljana you can go to any direction, explore and still sleep in your own bed. Pricless. Enjoy!
HA! Thank you for the great praise of Slovenia and Slovenes, I'm thankful for it and happy for you, that you like and enjoy my country. I wish it would really be as "idealistic" as you describe it, but sadly things are slowly deteriorating. Thankfully, slowly, but still.... we used to be better as people and as nation, population stratification was smaller and quality of life regarding life-work balance, and social and economic security for a large portion of the population used to be higher.... In other words, people in general might "afford less", but were generally happier and safer. Thanks again for really kind words, and in 2025 I wish you successful studies on EF Ljubljana, and many more pleasant experiences in and of Slovenia. Happy new year Aaron 😊....
I love the honest, genuine and authentic approach you take to your videos. I started watching because I'm Slovene and I sometimes learn new stuff about my country when a foreigner describes and experiences it but I'd love to also see you explore other places and watch your videos about those because of your authentic approach. Happy holidays!
Thanks very much for promoting our country, we fought for it for a long time. And will be fighting again if we have to...Also if you see a guy with a harmonica (akordion), its probably slovenian music. You did a better job than most south "brothers" that come to slovenia and after 20 years living here dont know a word slovenian.
First! And I love your videos! If you don't remember me, I'm Slovenian and videos about appreciating my country are always interesting and heartwarming ❤
I moved here recently too (in 2023) and it's nice to see you putting in the effort to actually learn the real culture of Slovenia and learn from some common mistakes and misconceptions. Too many expats who move here don't put any effort in to learn anything about where they're now living, even after 10+ years sometimes, so it's refreshing to see someone else also putting in this effort. Good work!
Great video. You are correct about us. And your description of us is spot on 😊 And if you want more information where to go in Slovenia just ask. Im a biker and I explore Slovenia every weekend
Great video! You captured the spirit of a proud Slovene well....also, we like our country clean and green 🎉 hope you continue to love our little "chicken"🤭
My absolute favourite part of this video is how you pronounce Ljubljana with Ljubljanian accent :3 Maribor & Koper were also pronounced perfectly! I really love how much effort you put in saying place names correctly
I am proud, grateful and happy to live here. We have it all. Especially I love moutains and hiking. If you have time, consider to visit lake Bohinj and Soča valley.. Enjoy your stay. ❤
You described Slovenia and Slovenians beautifully. I like how you learn from little things and mistakes - we all do, because life is an eternal school. Yes, Slovenians are proud of our culture and roots, which is why we are so protective of it. Not only do we love nature, we also make sure that it is as pristine as possible. Slovenian language; no one will blame you for incorrect pronunciation, but they will correct you and help you with the correct pronunciation. I understand that all our "č, š and ž" make it difficult for you to pronounce...you will get used to it. Enjoy your time at home and have a great celebration! 👋😉❤
Brother, i can not be much proud about our nation, because we have screwed it down almost to the level of "no repair". But, if you can't see the damage which has been done since 1864 , than you must be even more blind than average Slovenian. Sad story . Peace with you .
You did a great job describing how we feel about our beautiful country. We can be cold at the start, this hit me most when I visited Texas. People there would smile and hug from the start and it was overwhelming sometimes 😅 But I think I opened up a little more as person because of that experience. Have fun exploring our little gem and have blessed holidays and a good start to the New Year ❤
Don't worry, Slovenia is small but quite varied, so we have Slovene and we also have a mixture of South, East and Central Europe. Coffee preparation is Turkish or Greek, depends on who you ask. Kremšnita or Cremschnitte = Custard slice, can be found all over former Austro-Hungarian monarchy and even wider (Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Chechia, Austria, Croatia, Bosnia, Romania, ...), etc. I gave you a wide hint, the rest is up to you to discover :) Enjoy!
Definitely upgraded your knowledge about Slovenia. Check out some festivals across the country, music, theatre, concerts rock, folk and pop to compare, enjoy castles and churches across Slovenia, learn about different food cultures in different regions of Slovenia. There’re zillion things to discover. Bring your friends and family over. Welcome!
Don't take the comments for the bad, we all learn every day as we go. As far as food is concerned, my opinion is that there are too many vlogs where tourists give ratings about food, but eat burek, kebabs, čevapčiči, pleskavica etc. and none of this is Slovenian food, even though they present it as such. My advice - go to your Slovenian friends for a lunch to taste the actual homemade food ;)
Nice to see you learned to make coffe the right way. For the best result I use a hand grinder to grind the coffe beans myself for every cup I make just before I make it. And if I add milk I go buy it at a local mlekomat ( a vending machine for milk that some farms have in place). It's a small thing, but the difference is pretty big. If you ever have a chance to do those two things you should definitely try it and tell us if you find it better. Good luck to you and enjoy your holidays.
I follow your videos and I think you are doing a great job. We have a say: " the one who works makes mistakes (Kdor dela, greši)" meaning that if you are working you inevitably make some mistakes which shows you are trying, you are doing something and not just laying in front of a TV. If you do not work then you don't make mistakes which is actually bad :)
Greetings from Slovenia. Hats off to you for trying to pronounce Slovenian words. I recommend that if you really want to experience Slovenian home-made food from a farm, you go a little out of town and find some farm tourism. There you have locally processed food and in the vast majority of cases all these restaurants cannot compete with, restaurants from the city. Home-grown meat, home-grown fruits, vegetables, spices,... this can be your best experience of Slovenian home-made food. Farm tourism, usually these are homesteads that offer food, breakfast, lunch, dinner anything from the local region. You just won't find it in the city. 🙃🙂🤫 for example: ( "Gostilna Eder" Eder-Kramberger Natalija s.p. ) here they have the best venison I've ever eaten and they also have home-raised deer with red cabbage. finger-licking good. throw that address in brackets into google maps and it will give you the location. here are usually guests from closer Austria, they really have good food. Enjoy 👍💯 and owner Natalia is a very Lovely Woman Pleased to Talk 24/7 🙃
Why not just stay with us, promise we'll take good care of ya 😉 I can recommend one place you can try out in Ljubljana, Gostilna Sokol (Eng: Falcon Inn), its located very close to the Town Hall. Pick whichever dish you want, as far as i know, if you go on their website, there are pictures of dishes and the traditional ones have a small slovenian flag with them.
One big thing I learned about us slovenians when I moved abroad for a while was that we secretly love Slovenia. We constantly hate on it and many people are embarassed by Slovenia unfortunately but if any non-slovenian dares say anything incorrect or makes fun of us, we get very protective.
You already got a lot of suggestions, I'll add another for food. It's not a Slovenian dish, but it's, strangely, served in almost every restaurant and in my experience, most foreigners aren't familiar with it. It's called "polnjeni lignji" It's grilled squid, filled with either prosciutto and cheese, or ham and cheese. It's delicious! Usually served with fries as a side-dish or some kind of potato. I don't have a specific restaurant to recommend because as I mentioned, they serve this (and also fried calamari) almost everywhere. I like to always check the menu in unusual places for sea food to be served, and they usually do, for example they serve it on Vogel! 😂
Thank you for making vids about our lovely country, ive lived here my whole life wich is not a lot acually becouse im only 12 but I consider all these fackts about us True and am happy you try so hard to understand more about our culture❤
You are a good and hearty person and so, naturally, you meet good people. I advise you also to visit National gallery, City museum and Modern gallery in Ljubljana, have a walk along the river to the old medieval part of the town and to see perhaps also another aspect, visit Metelkova ulica and see hostel Celica where you have rich cultural programme: exhibitions, concerts... Greetings from Ljubljana!
awsome man! see you went home for the holiday's and new year so enjoy it! and happy 2025🎉😉😉 in ljubljana you should try Hiša pod gradom and order their pica rolls or in slovenian pica role.... and you should go to stožice since you are a sports fen and see a game of basketball or football and see where hour national teams play💪 and you say you are a lot in tivoli park there is hala tivoli where the ice hockey team plays and go see a game have some bears and eat at horse burger for a great day🍻😁
I have only visited Slovenia once, but I would spend time in Kranjska Gora, Stara Fuzina, and Kobarid. Have dinner at Hisa Franko if you have the chance and the money to do so. Go Beavs!
I really admire you for deciding to study in a completely different culture. Think how much this will broaden your perspective. Thank you. I would be curious to know what the economy is based on in Slovenia. Cheers and Happy New Year.
First of all thank you for all the promotion you are doing for our #Slovenia! What I would emphasise as the biggest food/drinks related shock when comparing the USA experiences to us in Slovenia (or this part of Europe) is the following (of course exceptions probably exist): - BREAD - You mostly do not even have what we consider bread. Also most of bread in USA is too sweet and has something like x2/x3 calories - Sausages - Dried/Fresh/For cooking sausages in USA were non digestable for us. Compare dried sausage, Poli fresh sausage and famous Kranjska sausage for cooking. I had to throw Slimjim away it was sooo bad for me. - Mineral water - Radenska and then nothing for a looooooong time on the world scale. - Cocta - Natural Herbal "coca cola" made in Slovenia for ages - Chocolate and sweets in general - Very poor selection of what we consider "chocolate" in usa. Hersheys and maybe a couple more? - Fanta - No comment on whatever Fanta in USA is.... - Most of frozen (ready) meals - Even something as simple as frozen chicken wings....we could not eat it. - Beef soup - Slovenian homemade style beef soup has nothing comparable in the states. - Pumpkin oil - There is only ONE WAY TO MAKE GREEN SALAD. And that is with 100% pure PUMPKIN OIL. - Natural juices - Compare Fructal Premium juices to whatever you call Natural juice :) .... There is more, but those are the most obvious things :) AGAIN THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEOS, keep up the excellent work! And since you are from Georgia, PLEASE teach people in Slovenia how to make boiled peanuts!!! Most do not even know this is a thing!
Hey man, you really are just saying nice things about the country and the people. One thing I would mention is that we really are self conscious and can be overbearing and touchy towards people from other countries. Don't let it get to you, most of us are normal and understand you can't possibly know all there is to know about us. Living here shouldn't be a prescribed experience or a school curriculum. You do you, eat some burek and really piss off some of these commentators :)
@@Rok_Piletic Indeed it was, but via trade with Ottoman empire. After Second siege of Vienna by Ottoman army, strange sacks of beans where left behind after Ottomans retreated. Story how coffee was introduced to Austrian empire is interesting, but to keep my comment shorter, yes: Coffee originates in Ethiopia, then it became Arabica ;) and yes, most of the balkans were under Ottoman rule for centuries. This is also how cultures blend.
Okay, imma give you a suggestion. In spring, you have to go visit "Volčji potok" and "Mozirski Gaj" both are beautiful big gardens with flowers and plants, i preffer Volčji potok - it means the wolf's garden
Suggestion for you next video, what part of Ljubljana would live in if you were to live there for a longer time, such as ten or twenty years, and why? Thanks for the video pieces. As for food, in particular potica, in summer some vanilla or walnut ice-cream on top, in winter a drizzle of lightly thicken cream, works wonders.
you rely need to make a trip plan in the spring when it would be NICE WEATHER !!! it needs to be a nice day ! so you go to Kranjska Gora cross Vršič and go true the whole Soča River Valley stop at Bovec,Kobarid, Tolmin, Most na soči and all the way to Nova Gorica and after you can go to the cost ! (you will need a car for this trip ) IMHO this is THE MOST beautiful part of Slovenia ...
Slovenia is where south meets the north and west meets the east. You will see that in food, drinks and even character of the people. Food is awsome, people are kind and nature breathtaking. Streets are clean and crime is low. Everyone thinks its just another east european country, but you couldnt be more wrong. Once you have been there you will always come back. Top country!
Great video, but as Slovenian of course I have to make also two correcting or explanatory comments: try to avoid calling Slovenia Balkans, there is lot of discussion about that but in general majority of Slovenians (although loving some elements of Balkan culture) do not consider Slovenia part of Balkans, ourvculture is much more central European. So to avoid controversy just refer to Slovenia as central European and not Balkans. Second - about coffee preparation the one you have shown here is actually Turkish coffee that some Slovenian do use but we also do use other preparation techniques as well, including the one you originally have shown. There is no really prevailing coffee technique in Slovenia, it depends also very much which part of Slovenia you visit.
You really should visit Slovenian coast, it is however a bit dull during winter time, christmas lights are beautiful though - after sun gos down. And I do appreciate how well you taught yourself pronouncing Slovenian words. I am Slovenian myself and I'm in relationship with American girl and am currently in the states.. She struggles with Slovenian language a lot, I'm not forcing it on her though, so we never really went deep into learning it. Just the alphabet itself is so difficult for someone whose native language is English. And to be fair, I love both countries, both are beautiful and both have pluses and minuses. I do enjoy exploring USA a lot more tho.. Everywhere you go, there's so much to see, it's insane really. I haven't visited anything other than east coast yet and I fly here quite often and still I saw so much already - and nothing at the same time.
I'm from Slovenia and me and my parents make coffee like you did!!! It is not wrong (I watched experts how they make coffee) just very uncommon in Balkan 😊
Many foreign tourists complain about usurious prices for entrance fees, parking, usurious prices in restaurants, bars, etc. in tourist destinations in Slovenia. The prices of these services are more expensive in Slovenia than in many other European countries when it comes to tourism. This is probably not something we are proud of.
Are they tooo lazy, or tooo dumb, 2 get the Proper - Mertic measuring system ?

Heyyy, I love the content maaan. ❤ Also have you ever looked into Slovenian music a bit more... Avsenik brothers Ensemble is particularely unique, they achieved worldwide fame. You should at least take a peek into them :) Keep up the good work!
You have to visit Logarska dolina (Logar valley), its one of the most beautiful places in Slovenia, almost never mentioned. Also you should try eating Savinjski želodec, but be sure you get it from a local farmer.
you quite nailed our culture so a great video, also a question is about public transport and also becuase im a train guy what do you think about our trains becuase in term of european rail they need a lot of improvement but they are slowy fixing all the problems and also maybe buses becuase i use them all the time despite some people thinking they arent great.
If u haven't allready, try Hood Burger, way better than any other burger. I get either a classic double rare, or a chilly cheese steak. Not traditional, but it is amazing slovenian food. One of their restaurans is on "Nazorjeva" street.
You should listen to some stuff from ans. Braneta Klavžarja, ans. Franca Miheliča, ans. Lojzeta Slaka, ans. Avsenik, Fantje z vseh vetrov, ans. Stil, and Fehtarji. You could make a video about which songs you like the most as someone who doesn't understand slovenian.
This video might answer some of your questions ua-cam.com/video/TKrOFjGJlKY/v-deo.html . But I would say do not focus on Ljubljana it is expensive. Try other cities or even better small towns. Everything in Slovenia is reachable by the car in an hour or maximum 2 hours. Best wishes.
Did you meet any real people and made friends with them? I think this is really the benchmark of the country. Given that you are probably a student years person, do try to find the company of persons who have similar hobbies than you. I know only the literary scene and argentine tango community. Perhaps try to go some Friday at 21.00 to the Dvorana Tabor, or engage a course in tango. This way you can meet more people.
Actualy you can make coffe in both ways, it was not a mistake, the way with Dzezva is more correct but one with mug is kind of workers way, usualy done in working places..
Aaron! Do some research on Slovenian swear words. I'm sure you'll laugh until you cry. Slovenian swear words are also an expression of our character. Primer: je bela cesta, tristo kosmatih medvedov, križana gora ,strela vate zagrmela... Example: there is a white road, three hundred furry bears, a crossed mountain, lightning thundered in you...

I like how much effort you put in the right pronunciation of the slovenian names of places and words. Good job :)). Thank you.
he butchered quite a few names but its the effort that counts lol
One friend once made a beautiful description of being Slovene in a relationship to Balkan.
"Čevapi warm my belly, but waltz warmes my heart."

Life with Aaron Arnold . Thank you and Happy new year.

Come to see Kamnik, then go to Jarški dom on Mala planina to taste the real jota 😁
awsome man!
see you went home for the holiday's and new year so enjoy it! and happy 2025🎉😉😉 in ljubljana you should try Hiša pod gradom and order their pica rolls or in slovenian pica role.... and you should go to stožice since you are a sports fen and see a game of basketball or football and see where hour national teams play💪 and you say you are a lot in tivoli park there is hala tivoli where the ice hockey team plays and go see a game have some bears and eat at horse burger for a great day🍻😁
I don’t know a single Slovenian who likes our national music more than balkan music lol.
I have only visited Slovenia once, but I would spend time in Kranjska Gora, Stara Fuzina, and Kobarid. Have dinner at Hisa Franko if you have the chance and the money to do so. Go Beavs!
You are doing great (speaking)❤
u did a good job!
well we don't have any snowy winters anymore...
I really admire you for deciding to study in a completely different culture. Think how much this will broaden your perspective. Thank you. I would be curious to know what the economy is based on in Slovenia. Cheers and Happy New Year.
True 👌
First of all thank you for all the promotion you are doing for our #Slovenia! What I would emphasise as the biggest food/drinks related shock when comparing the USA experiences to us in Slovenia (or this part of Europe) is the following (of course exceptions probably exist):
- BREAD - You mostly do not even have what we consider bread. Also most of bread in USA is too sweet and has something like x2/x3 calories
- Sausages - Dried/Fresh/For cooking sausages in USA were non digestable for us. Compare dried sausage, Poli fresh sausage and famous Kranjska sausage for cooking. I had to throw Slimjim away it was sooo bad for me.
- Mineral water - Radenska and then nothing for a looooooong time on the world scale.
- Cocta - Natural Herbal "coca cola" made in Slovenia for ages
- Chocolate and sweets in general - Very poor selection of what we consider "chocolate" in usa.
- Natural juices - Compare Fructal Premium juices to whatever you call Natural juice :)
....
He he, you actually learned to use džezva pot, which is in fact Balkan style coffee :D
Turkish? how coffee came to Europe from Ethiopia
You love Slovenija we love you more Drago Nace Ribic from California
Okay, imma give you a suggestion.
In spring, you have to go visit "Volčji potok" and "Mozirski Gaj" both are beautiful big gardens with flowers and plants, i preffer Volčji potok - it means the wolf's garden
Wolf's river
@vesnacrncec6268 Oh yea, my bad lol, it's more like a wolf's stream
'potok' does not mean 'garden', it means 'stream'
Suggestion for you next video, what part of Ljubljana would live in if you were to live there for a longer time, such as ten or twenty years, and why? Thanks for the video pieces. As for food, in particular potica, in summer some vanilla or walnut ice-cream on top, in winter a drizzle of lightly thicken cream, works wonders.
I love how he pronounces slovenian things
you rely need to make a trip plan in the spring when it would be NICE WEATHER !!! it needs to be a nice day !
so you go to Kranjska Gora cross Vršič and go true the whole Soča River Valley stop at Bovec,Kobarid, Tolmin, Most na soči and all the way to Nova Gorica and after you can go to the cost ! (you will need a car for this trip )
IMHO this is THE MOST beautiful part of Slovenia ...
Great idea. I'd add Zelenci even though it's a bit out of the way, it's worth it!
@@cybermom77 he's already been there ...
@@renbe0 all true 👍
Yes, and if people would know how terribly unhealthy the coffee really is, they would Never ever drink it.
Speaking about the Balkan influence on Ljubljana...you should go eat at Baščaršija (for a true Bosnian food)
I'm from Slovenia and me and my parents make coffee like you did!!! It is not wrong (I watched experts how they make coffee) just very uncommon in Balkan 😊
And coffee is the far worse nourishment that the blind and dumb Humanity has schosen to drink.
Hey have you heard the difference in language when you were in Murska Sobota? :)
❤ Maribor ❤
You still in Slovenia? If yes, you have to climb Triglav. Not now in winter, but yes.
Come to Škofja Loka.
You have told the truth about Slovenia and Slovenes. Just research why true Slovenes don't like the Balkans. Respect, greetings from Slovenia.
if you love wine then I suggest visiting Vipavska Dolina (Vipava Valley), but do it during spring or summer when its more beautiful here
Many foreign tourists complain about usurious prices for entrance fees, parking, usurious prices in restaurants, bars, etc. in tourist destinations in Slovenia. The prices of these services are more expensive in Slovenia than in many other European countries when it comes to tourism. This is probably not something we are proud of.
Many people say Slovenia has the biggest and most beautiful Alps in the world.
Biggest ? We have the lowest mountains in the Alpian countryes.
Can you make a vid where you compare your country to ours?
you should visit our castles and learn about our history and the Counts of Celje-Grad Žovnek
You need to learn metric system :) But really good job. Enjoying watching you
Are they tooo lazy, or tooo dumb, 2 get the Proper - Mertic measuring system ?
Heyyy, I love the content maaan. ❤
Also have you ever looked into Slovenian music a bit more... Avsenik brothers Ensemble is particularely unique, they achieved worldwide fame. You should at least take a peek into them :)
Keep up the good work!
Avsenik is no.1 but DJ Umek is no.2 to bring us music recognition worldwide
Slovenija ♥️✌️
You should visit Bled. Thats our nr. 1 turist destination. And try the "blejska kremšnita". Dont know it in english...
U are best❤❤
You have to visit Logarska dolina (Logar valley), its one of the most beautiful places in Slovenia, almost never mentioned.
Also you should try eating Savinjski želodec, but be sure you get it from a local farmer.
Better yet, do a cycling tour of it!
you quite nailed our culture so a great video, also a question is about public transport and also becuase im a train guy what do you think about our trains becuase in term of european rail they need a lot of improvement but they are slowy fixing all the problems and also maybe buses becuase i use them all the time despite some people thinking they arent great.
Go to Idrija and try idrijske žlikrofe. 😉
If I could eat only one food to the end of my life, that would be it. 💪🏽
13:55 You have to try Azur (goveja tagliata), Čad (anything your heart desires :) ), Maček....
If u haven't allready, try Hood Burger, way better than any other burger. I get either a classic double rare, or a chilly cheese steak. Not traditional, but it is amazing slovenian food. One of their restaurans is on "Nazorjeva" street.
You should try Ramen by Maru, the miso ramen is amazing. When you are there, ask for Poglet ( the server) :)
You should listen to some stuff from ans. Braneta Klavžarja, ans. Franca Miheliča, ans. Lojzeta Slaka, ans. Avsenik, Fantje z vseh vetrov, ans. Stil, and Fehtarji.
You could make a video about which songs you like the most as someone who doesn't understand slovenian.
How easy would it be for a U.S. citizen to retire to Slovenia? You may not know the answer if you're a student but thought I'd ask. :)
🥰❤🥰
Did you meet any real people and made friends with them? I think this is really the benchmark of the country. Given that you are probably a student years person, do try to find the company of persons who have similar hobbies than you. I know only the literary scene and argentine tango community. Perhaps try to go some Friday at 21.00 to the Dvorana Tabor, or engage a course in tango. This way you can meet more people.
Actualy you can make coffe in both ways, it was not a mistake, the way with Dzezva is more correct but one with mug is kind of workers way, usualy done in working places..
You should go on Triglav.
so what is that 5 shocking things? and how much u learned slovene lang,?
Restavracija Druga violina. Karkoli.
shocking really slovenian loves slovenia🙄
Aaron! Do some research on Slovenian swear words. I'm sure you'll laugh until you cry. Slovenian swear words are also an expression of our character. Primer: je bela cesta, tristo kosmatih medvedov, križana gora ,strela vate zagrmela... Example: there is a white road, three hundred furry bears, a crossed mountain, lightning thundered in you...
in krščen Matiček je tudi huda - baptized Matiček 🤣😂
