I am only sad you didnt visit Slovenain Istria where we have great seafood and the local favourite Ombolo (a piece of swine inside a bread loaf with cheese, mushroom or truffle sauce). Ima a vegetarian so instead of Ombolo i fill the bread with vegetables. There is one more food YOU HAVE TO TRY and its the all time winner for the best comfort food in the history of all comfort foods - Žlikrofi. Its a speciality form my home town Idrija in the northern Primorska region. Its a type of a dumpling. Half of these places, i didn't even know exist. And i've lived in Ljubljana for a while. Well, probably because we make our meat and klobasa at home, bunch of us gather and we do the "dirty deeds" which is actually killing the animals and processing the food. Homemade is best made!
Slovenia is very beautiful. Perhaps the most beautiful in Europe. People are good, kind and warm. Slovenia's cuisine is excellent because it has tradition and the appropriate high-quality materials that are locally produced. I don't understand what two Americans can appreciate and say when the USA does NOT have its own kitchen. The main meal is bad cornbread with fatty meats, a few leaves of salad. This is neither a cuisine nor a tradition given the fact that hamburgers are named after the city where they were first made. Anyway Americans have never had a taste for anything. Slovenian food is allmost like a fusion of polish and german food. If you think germans eat the most sauerkraut, multiply this by 100 and you are in poland.
There is nothing less appealing than food that is pretentious. Slovenian cuisine stands out because it is authentic and simple food that does not deceive the senses or pretend to be something else. You get genuine food produced locally to the highest standards. When I watch people umming and ooing over unpretentious food, I have to question their credibility.

Slovenia is a green beautiful place but the food here is nothing special in comparison to food just across the border in Italy and Austria. The problem is that the best meat and other ingredients produced in Slovenia are sent to Austria and Italy so it is very hard to find a high quality ingredients among Slovenian suppliers. You should better check food in Trieste, Klagenfurt and Graz if you really want to eat good.

Maybe you should upgrade your culinary experience and not eat only street food. You have much better places in Ljubljana. If you visited Ljubljana Castle you have Strelec, close to train station is JB restaurant, okrepčevalnica Čompa, for something traditional Gostilna pri Žabarju. 20 minitus from the center you have Grič if you want something amazing.

What are you on about? We have great local food here. Sure they chose poorly in terms of restaurants but we have great food and great chefs that use local ingredients. Putr, Jezeršek, Jelenov greben, JB, Skaručna, Hiša Franko, Hiša Linhart, Grič, Pr' Krjan, Kruh in Vino, to name just a few. It's a Slovenian national sport for Slovenians to s*it on Slovenija. Do come back guys and try great local food, we have plenty.
