- National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on April 09 downplayed ruler the conquers of ‘Alexander the Great’ and said that it was a small event in history but the Western historian made a mountain out of it.
"There are a few questions about Indian history that nobody questions, even our detectives. One is its antiquity; it is one of the oldest civilizations. The second is continuity, that is if it started 4000-5000 years before BC, it has been continuous till today, and there is no disruption in that. The third is its vast expanse...When you think of this expanse of 6000-8000 years, of continuous history in such a vast area, the narrative that has been brought is that probably the first chapter about Indian history starts with Alexander, that Alexander was the first who discovered India and it was the victory of the West over the East. Actually, he only came to the border of India into Jhelum and then probably was not able to proceed further, and thereafter, that was the end of him...Justice William Jones of Calcutta High Court, from 1746 to 1792, had said that nowhere in any Sanskrit, Pali, or Prakrit literature or the local dialects, I could find any mention of Alexander. There is no mention...It was a very small event in history… But you made such a big mountain of it as if the world history has changed with Alexander the great conqueror,” said Ajit Doval.

Shri Ajit Doval ji mentioned regarding the history of Metallurgy. I wish to say that our research wok Archaeometallurgy of India from Rigveda to Valmiki Ramyayana is recently published as a book by IITRoorkee. The metal evidence retrieved from the heritage texts revealed that the Vedic Civilization was far more ancient than the Indus Valley Civilzation.
I am glad. I can now imagine the kind of debates Doval saab, Jaishankar, Modiji and Shah are likely to have. This sense of history is heartening
Alexander has been propped up by Western historians as a conqueror. There are some biographies about him but little to no archaeological proof of his extensive rule. Not denying he may have come to India, but winning the battle is a serious stretch of imagination considering the vast harsh lands he had to cross and he was injured after his previous battles. The countries he conquered slipped out of his grasp. But for example, if we talk about Ashoka's rule, there is much evidence of his extensive empire in the form of edicts, pillars and the stupas he built.
Bollywood further made sure to spread myth about Alexander through songs like Muqaddar ka Sikander

No doubt, Alexander was courageous, but fact is that he never won india, he just conquer Pakistan, so its wrong to say he conquer india, even there is no proof that he win against porus.

The thing is greek records have often overrated their acievments to the point they will often make the records look like enemies were super strong with huge army and Greeks just one with a small troop, and it is also proven in many historical studies, it was done to motivate the greek soldiers.
Bharat in ancient times was very much the centre of world order and very valuable, to the point greeks also had a lot of mythical records based on their fantasies about our land which can be seen in records of megasthenis and others.
Rest it is very much true that Alexander did conquer some western kingdoms of Bharat but they were overrated coz they were weak kingdoms, following that came the Indo-Greek kingdoms(established by his generals) around these regions, eastern Iran and southern Afghanistan. Basically Alexander's feat was not that great as he mainly only conquered weak kingdoms around Sindhu river, Porus was probably his greater adversary but he was not one of the strongest kings in Bhartiya standards he was strong only for Alexander so you understand, his avrg army couldn't even afford proper leather armour, while metal plate armours were pretty common in Bharat used by strong kingdoms. This didn't make much impact on history of Bharat as even the indo-greeks would later completely converge into the Bhartiya population and culture.
Lastly i beleive the Greeks have probably knowingly overrated the porus army by talking about them having a very large army, as i mentioned above greeks usually did this to give motivation to other greek soldiers that their ancestors fought by 1 against 100 enemies.
Alexander is credited to conquer the whole "known world" but that is from greek perspective, as even greeks didn't know about majority of Bharat, they only knew about Sindhu region and Tamilkam region(via sea trades), much to say the known world from Bharat's perspective was much wider as we knew as far as greeks and egyptians in west to China-Java in east.
For greeks it was a great victory for they conquered a section of Bharat, for Bhartis it was just an avrg western invader(like iranis) who conqiering weak buffer kingdoms.
greek mythology like iliad and oddesey are copy of ramayan mahabharat, their philosophy copied partially from upanishads.
Who said history of India starts with Alexander? Before him, there was Bimbisara, Ajatshatru in Magadh, the kingdoms of Takshashila, and Tamil kingdoms of Silappadikaram era. Janpad and Mahajanpad already matured. Panini already wrote Sanskrit grammar, Tolkaapiyam already written in Tamil.
I grew up in the West..... And when Alexander was discussed in history, I recall the study material stating that he conquered India...... And this is what I believed for a good 20 years in England

Sir, if you are serious that the Indian history should be reassessed, then you first have to scrap the system of " Supervisors" in the Ph.D system in Indian Universities Because these " Supervisors/ Guides" are the choke points, who do not permit the conscientious scholar any chance to reseach and rewrite Indian history. Supervisors are only for those Ph.D students who have the mentality of a graduate willing to be led by the nose.

Alexander couldn't invade Bharat cause his men got humiliated in the Northwest. He almost died after a Malli put his spear into his chest. He wanted to fight the mighty Nanda Empire but his men begged him and told him to turn back. If he fought the Nanda Empire, that would've been the end of his fake Greatness. The Mauryan Empire humiliated his General Seleucus when he tried to invade Bharat with 300,000 Soldiers.
ALEXANDER came to the border Satrapy of Persian Empire ie Punjab.. hearing the mightiness of the armies of India and Nanda Empire ,he returned back. He didn't gather courage to enter India. Books of historians of Alexander just speak of victories in Punjab Satrapy of Persia but not the fears loomed in Macedonian army of Toughness of Ganga civilization and It's war machinery..

When ever I see other places related to civilisation or historical places they are neat, clean, everything is organised, visitors of that country don’t create noise, there are proper way how to go their, no stray animal wonders there, management is good, people are not sleeping there or eating and throwing wrappers everywhere, and guide give actual and very important info that a person can understand and remember easily, all these things matter because you create image of places you visit.

Alexander's invasion was not a major event in itself but it brought Greek colonization into Western India who stayed for about 100-200 Gregorian years.
They were a huge pain for the local Indian population at that time just like British.
