Very good test. While I carry a SOG tool Powerlock, I have never liked the saw. Your comparison was excellent and the picture of the finished products was worth a thousand words. I too, was amazed at the difference between the four tools. Thank you, my friend!
I always keep a victorinox knife on my belt or in my pocket, but a multi tool is a pack tool for me, so with weight not being too much of an issue, I went for the boat anchor that is the leatherman surge, and I haven't regretted it. Thing is built like a tank.
@@FelixImmler I'm a big fan of victorinox, have been for years, but when it comes to multi tools leatherman does have the edge. Although I've been disappointed with some of their lower level models, the sidekick is a good example, their main flagship models like the charge, wave, surge, etc, are solid tools. I've got a spuirt too, which is a really good tool for its size.
Great test brother. I'm a bit surprised. My bet would have been on the Victorinox. This test also proves that you are honest. Very little difference between the Victorinox and the Leatherman. Stay safe my friend.
@@QuantumMechanic_88 I have to disagree there, the original Swiss Army Knife, British Army Knife and other scout knives have existed for over a century, and folding multi tools have existed long before that. if you take a good look at the video there were some knots in the dry wood where he used the Victorinox, but you can also see that the leatherman cuts softer, anyway I prefer Victorinox great video Felix
this is actually very useful information for those looking to purchase. I have several gerber multi tools and the saws are basically useless on all of them. I like leatherman better and now i know which one has a good saw.
My dad and I did a similar comparison between his leatherman wave saw and my victorinox camper saw. The leatherwan was a little faster and the action was smoother as you mention in the video. I was expecting a bit better from Sog though!

Great observation, so steve! I think it had an effect. Every other pair of cuts were very consistent. I'm buying a Rangergrip, which would have cut even more with the additional inch(2.54 cm) on the blade. Though I'm excited about Leatherman starting to use 154cm steel on the knife blade. Felix, please suggest to Victorinox to offer upgraded steel on the knife blades. S35vn would be ideal!
Thank you Mr Immler for another fantastic and informative video. Being cooped up during the pandemic your videos are how much needed bit of happiness. Keep up the great work and thanks again stay safe and be well
Interesting out come! I myself have a Leatherman charge and I’ve been using it for almost 20 years and I love it it cuts like a Dream and to see how it went in your Testing I was thinking it would do ok! But well we can see how well it went… thank You once again Mate for your Time and for sharing
When I was in the Army I had a Leatherman Supertool. It ended up getting stolen. A buddy of mine had a Gerber. I used mine a lot and never had any issues. I remember watching my buddy use his Gerber pliers to work on a generator and snapping one whole side of the plier right off. Never been much of a Gerber fan since.
I really like both products which did well today. I own both and use both. Different tasks are done better by different tools. Every tool has strengths and weaknesses.
@6:53 Yes, you definiteley need more practice with the saw - pull-saws have a natural advantage over push-saws, because they straighten themselves in action, while push-saws tend to bend and jam. Since I first tried a japanese pull-saw, I changed all my (german/continental) saws into pull-saws and I'm very happy with them. Saws, where I can't switch the blade, I don't use any more. In the video I can see, you are pushing hard on the Victorinox and instead of pulling the saw back, you just retract it - the other way round would be much more effective: pulling hard and pushing gently, so you don't risk to bend the blade and jam it. BTW: as pull-saws straighten themselves, you can make the blades thinner and less wood is removed, so less work to do. I own a small japanese pull-saw for fine cuts in dry hardwood; its blade is only 0.35mm thick, its cut is only 0.6mm wide (22TPI), my finest continental push-saw has a blade of 0.9mm which cuts a 1.5mm notch - less work and better results with the japanese saw! Stay healthy and take care
Voilà un test édifiant qui confirme mon classement multi-critère des marques de multi-tools : Leatherman/ Victorinox/ GERBER/ SOG. L'idée de ce test et sa mise en oeuvre est excellente; merci cher Felix.
The narrow kerf definitely helps the leatherman in terms of speed. I remember the first time I cut a piece of wood with my trailmaster/trekker I was really surprised at how well the saw worked. Good quality multitools are surprisingly capable.
Great demonstration. I have another demonstration request. Could you do a all Victorinox saw cutting demo? Swiss Tool, vs Rangerwood 55 vs Hercules (Outrider, Work Champ) and Huntsman? I believe the Rangerwood has a larger saw and the Huntsman the smallest. But I think it would be another interesting test comparison.
@@Pinki2019 I think they are the same size as the Alox Farmer, but not positive. I did see where there was a retired model, The Lumberjack, that was the smallest SAK with a saw blade.
