Wow, what a time warp. I grew up in the Valley and was there that day - we really felt like we were in the big smoke! We kids had watched it slowly rise up out of the dust with keen anticipation. At that point, it was pretty much on the very fringe of Canberra with nothing but farmland and kangaroos beyond - the lake was just a creek. One of the most memorable days there that I can remember was in 1989 when Batman came out at the cinema. They had brought the Batmobile from the movie and parked it on the ground floor - the crowds were massive! I spent many hours in the food court, at Rock Wallaby and generally loitering about the place as a bored teen. They sure were simpler times. Thanks for the upload!
The end of many building work in Canberra around then. Company's selling box-trailers made a fortune as many 100s of building workers left the ACT for other work. I know cause I was one of em....Went opal mining for the rest of my working life and had a ball. Great days .
Wow. I remember before it was opened and they had ads saying it was the mall of the 21st century. I remember when all the food court venues had neon signs which seemed like the height of futurism back in those days.
'87 it opened, didn't hit its straps until mid 90's as Nappy Valley became more populous. Back in '87 people would often go elsewhere. Look at it now & you'd never know.
By the mid 90's it was all drugies and thugs and smoke bludgers outside not sure its changed much i remember my cousin going to use an atm on the side of the building and it was filled with cigarette 🚬 butts in the slots it did have a cool arcade games hangout but then again most shopping centres did back then
I was there that day . I worked at the Super K bakery......I came to Canberra for work, got an interview in September at the hyperdome and was wondering who the hell were the customers gonna be as the hyperdome was all that was there in a dusty old sheep padock in the middle of nowhere 😂......bit different now eh
Canberra is the most important place for nobody but psychotics politicians and corrupt police. However defence stooges do just as good. Canberra is not Australia

In about 1992, there were robotic dinosaurs on Centre Stage. A classmate's little sister, he said, was so scared she ran into the carpark.

My first job was making up pay packets at Super Kmart in 1989.

Why did the shoppers at the Tuggeranong Hyperdome in 1987 bring umbrellas? Because they heard there was a "flash storm" sale! ☔
I can't get over how barren the landscape around Tuggeranong area was at the time🤣🤣wow time such has changed

Snobby McSnobface thinks he’s better than someone else.
Truly is a interesting place on that front, for that matter it is about the only thing interesting about it.
