I grew up in Canberra from 1961 and remember swimming in the lake and fishing for trout. We also caught yabbies with a piece of meat on the end of a string - they made good eating! Later I did a lot of sailing on the lake in my Mirror dinghy. Those were the days!

This is a gem. An integral part of Australian development. The idea of creating Canberra is open to discussion, but this film is priceless. Thank you.

I always thought Ming was supposed to be a skilled orator. That inauguration speech was about as uninspiring as it could possibly be.

Our family migrated to Canberra seven years ago. Love the city and especially Lake Burley Griffin. It is a very lovely recreational area, a stunning centrepiece for a very beautiful city. So enjoyed this film.

It's amazing how the landscape of Canberra was influenced by Lake Burley Griffin. Not only that but Canberra's road system was also heavily influenced by the lake. Like King's and Commonwealth Avenue bridges, Lady Denman Drive (part of it over Scrivener dam) Parkes Way and Monaro Highway (over the Molongolo River end of the Lake). I'm still looking for road maps or street directories of Canberra's early road system without an archive dive (it's expensive, I hear).

I've walked around that lake tripping on acid. Great job Burley-Griffin!

Canberra is definitely a place for admiration. I lay on the grass of this lake down from the war memorial on acid, at dusk. An amazing sight to see hundreds of bats moving from Commonwealth park toward Fyshwick. The noises they were making were like power lines in the wind.

great documentary, lots of 60s reminiscences - I don't know if there are any papers/articles about the beneficial effects of Burley Griffin on the local climate...Greetings from Chile

I thought the lake was always naturally there, but it's actually manmade. The more you know.

Depends on the speed limit. I agree it's annoying when people drive slow in the right lane, but technically it's not breaking the law at 80km or under.

Wonderful little film. I believe the narrator is Alastair Duncan (1926-2005) (although not apparently credited). www.imdb.com/name/nm0241892/

The true British Australian culture that a lot of we've opened our doors to a lot of different nationalities and many of them up my friends but they sometimes say we don't have any culture but yes we have it and understated Noble natural ability but you know after some multiple generations of unemployment the language is dropped and that the standards of drop that we did have and mostly do have standards the Anglo australasians
