The Xiaomi Smart Dehumidifier - Works with Siri, Google, and HomeBridge!

  • The Xiaomi Smart Dehumidifier is not a device for everyone or every location, but if you live in a country with high humidity - even for part of the year - this device hits all the right points. It isn't officially HomeKit compatible, but along with Siri Shortcuts and a HomeBridge plugin, you can get it to work really well.
    There are no filters to worry about replacing, so if tackling damp clothes or bedding, or excess condensation is something you suffer from, I would recommend this - especially given that there are no HomeKit dehumidifiers available on the market right now (DeLonghi made one, but it has been discontinued).
    Check your regional Xiaomi website to see if this is available, or alternatively, this device can be purchased on AliExpress and other international stores - I won't add links to these stores, as I can't vouch for their collective reliability.

    Could you please provide information regarding the temperature of the airflow emitted by the dehumidifier during its operation, specifically, does the air flow tend to be cold or warm?

    • @homekitnews
      @homekitnews  Рік тому

      The airflow coming out of the device tends to reflect the general air temperature of the room in my experience, so during the summer it can be quite warm, unless you have the AC on, and the room is cool, in which case the air is only slightly warmer. In winter (even though winters are mild where I am), the airflow will be cool.

      “Meet 8 hours of continuous dehumidification: in a laboratory with an area of 24m2, a room temperature of 28.7°C and a humidity of 73%RH, the drying mode is turned on to allow the dehumidifier to operate continuously for 8 hours. Really helpful video, thank you, especially as the manual only came in Chinese. I bought it but came across some problems and am wondering if it's all normal or if I have a defective product. Thanks in advance for any feedback!
    (1) The machine emits a squeaking sound every few seconds.
    (2) When switching from normal mode to night mode, it takes about 1/2 hr - 1 hr to become quiet.
    (3) Humidity level never gets to my target of 50%. The lowest it's gotten is 53%, in a room that's much smaller than the advertised 50 sq m. This is in Kuala Lumpur, where average indoor humidity is 60-70%, so I would have thought you could achieve 50% in a tiny room with closed door & window.
    (4) The first time I switched from night mode back to normal mode, humidity indicator jumped from 53% to 62%. I wasn't able to recreate this (but I've only had the machine a couple days).

    • @homekitnews
      @homekitnews  Рік тому

      Hi, I’m not sure what the squeaking sound is, but as there’s only a fan as the main moving part, I can only assume it’s this. As regards the change in volume when switching to quiet mode, check whether you have “drying after power off” option enabled. This normally only works when it’s turned off, but it might be the reason for the issue you’re experiencing too. If it makes no difference, then I’m not sure what it might be, sorry. Finally, as regards humidity levels, make sure there’s enough free space around the unit itself, and also ensure the filter is cleaned regularly. These will all impact the functionality of the unit.

    Hi, thanks for the detailed review. Were you able to check if there is another mode that it will let it go lower than the auto mode you tested? I think the promo image speak of some night mode.
    I was interested in this mainly for the declared noise levels, which is equivalent of a 13L dehumidifier, but 45db is more in line with the other 22/25L dehumidifiers. I should import it, and it gets quite expensive, so it should be worth the extra money.

      Hi, I do mention towards the start of the video that there’s a sleep mode, although I didn’t show it being tested in the noise levels section. Needless to say it’s a lot quieter than the auto and clothes drying mode.

    • @homekitnews
      @homekitnews  4 місяці тому +1

      @@ChristianBrandoni Hi, the specs I show near the start are basically from the Xiaomi (Taiwan) website, and although the website removed it as a listed product a while ago, it seems to be back with slightly amended specs (11L now instead of 10L). However, the 10L mentioned is not related to its capacity to store water, it's related to how much water is removed from the air per day, based on specific temperature and humidity levels. So in this case, the new listing shows this (once translated to English) "Daily dehumidification 11L (27℃/60% relative humidity), 20L (30℃/80% relative humidity)* ". I hope I understood you correctly, but if I didn't, let me know. Here's the link to the webpage in question - www.mi.com/tw/product/xiaomi-smart-dehumidifier/

      @@ChristianBrandoni in all honesty, whilst it’s been great for me, a couple of others have reported a specific problem that relates to it failing, with a specific error code. I haven’t had that, although the display has slightly failed in the last few months, so some of the LEDs failed, making it harder to discern the numbers on the display. It’s the same for my device here, but aside from manually brushing the dust off, I don’t think there’s anything else you can do. I don’t believe there’s a HEPA filter available as it would be too thick to fit in the thin area.

    • @homekitnews
      @homekitnews  5 місяців тому

      @UnikumMitsubishi i assume the fins are part of the process of humidity removal, but how I’m not sure. Maybe heat dispersal. If it’s this reason, it makes sense the fins are quite thin, to let heat disperse faster. I’ve tried in the past to be careful with cleaning them, but admittedly it’s not easy. If you’re getting a lot of dust, an air purifier is certainly an important piece of equipment for your home, and not just for the dehumidifier. We have a dog, so a lot of dust and hair is generated.

      You’ll only be able to buy it in either official Xiaomi stores in your region (if it’s for purchase) or places like AliExpress.

    how to connect to mi home

    • @homekitnews
      @homekitnews  5 місяців тому

      If it’s not listed as a device in the Mi Home app, you will need to change the server in Mi Home to match the region you purchased it. So if you got it from China, you would have to set the server/region in the app to China.

      Hi, I bought it from one of the Xiaomi stores in Taipei. I’m not sure if they still sell it or not, but it uses the Mi Home app, which is available in other languages besides Chinese, so you will be ok.

      @walaasader7638 yes, the range is limited for xiaomi products in Taiwan. I don’t buy many of their products these days, but this device has been useful, and with Siri Shortcuts support it can work well.

      I bought the Panasonic F-Y20JH for the whole house, but its quite loud for the bedroom. I want one for the bedroom. its very difficult to find noise specs on these, and everything is in Mandarin. So today i found about Xiaomi dehumidifier , and the noise seems to be fine for sleeping, when its on sleep mode.

      @@walaasader7638 we use the Xiaomi in our bedroom and have it come on (sleep mode) in the morning whilst we’re still asleep, and it’s pretty quiet. It does make an initial noise when it starts up, but i think that’s unavoidable.

    tank looks small

    • @homekitnews
      @homekitnews  Рік тому

      I have it on auto throughout the day right now, and it needs emptying twice a day. The company claim it can collect between 10-20L of water from the atmosphere a day, depending on the humidity levels and power settings. If you’re able to feed the included pipe to a drain, then the size of the tank becomes irrelevant, of course. The tank’s actual capacity is 4.5L.

    I brought the wrong model, the Chinese version instead of the global. Do you have any tricks to be able to access it from a global app ?

      Unfortunately, there’s no way of getting it to appear in other regions, which is a negative aspect of the Mi Home app,

      Hi Laurent
      Did you find any way around ? I have the same issue ...... thanks in advance

      You can use multiple regions in the Mi Home app, all with the same account, which allows you to add to the China server. The only issue is if you have other devices on different servers, they can’t interact with each other in Mi Home. You can only be signed into one region/server at a time though.
