I’m of the last generation to have experienced watching Bing Crosby while he was still alive. I watched his TV specials when I was a child in the 1970s. I loved his records. Watching White Christmas back then was an event, since there were no videotapes or other ways to watch anything on your own schedule. I’ve done my best to keep up the tradition with my nieces and nephews, watching White Christmas every year in the weeks before Christmas.
My father first heard White Christmas, on a portable record player, while serving as a Marine in World War II’s Pacific Island campaign. That was July of 1942. I’ve been listening to the song for well over 60 years, and it never gets old-no other performer’s rendition even comes close.
I Was born in 1943, so was a war baby, and my Mother had his record of White Christmas,(old 78 Brittle if you dropped it you lost it in a hundred pieces) she protected that record with her life. I grew up listening to, watching his movies. watching him on Tv. He was the voice of America. and still is in my mind. His "voice will always be heard . I'm so glad I got to live my life with Bing. Amen! ECF.
Even as a child, I loved to listen to Bing Crosby. As I got older, his panache still held my attention. As a 63 year old woman, I still am captivated by his music, and of course, White Christmas movie watching is tradition. Loved him... and Bop Hope...
I’m 65, and have been watching since I was a child! Bing was, and is, still the very best in his music. I intended to become a triple threat till an dance injury changed my path, yet music and my singing was my core original talent so I continued in that. My taste in music is quite diversified, coupled with understanding from experiences in all 3 fields, so watching and growing up around pioneers such as the entire cast of White Christmas is a treasured memory for many. I have not had that privilege of working with them but similar experiences serve me well in the energy on set-whew what moments! We all have our flaws, as I’m sure many pioneers did, yet their work should stand simply as that, their talent shines for all to see on film...forever 🙏🏻🌟🌟🌟
My dad both looked and could sing like Bing, and we owned every song Bing sang up to Dad's premature death in 1963. Bing and his music will always be special to me for that reason; I see and hear him and I see and hear my dad.
Christmas is never Christmas without Holiday Inn and Bing singing White Christmas and Meet Me In St. Louis with Judy Garland singing Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas Bing and Judy are National Treasures there will never be another Crosby or Garland. God Bless Them
Bing Crosby is special. I remember having enjoyed playing his singing numbers as Xmas songs in every class at any school I taught every year round in Japan. Thank you for sharing.
I grew up listening to Bing Crosby's music and watching his old movies. My Christmas season always starts with White Christmas, as it's my favorite Christmas song. Bing's wife, Kathryn, has always been wonderfully devoted to Bing and their children. She is such a warm and gracious lady. It's always a treat to hear her speak of Bing and of their life together. They both did such a wonderful job with their three children. They are one of the rare Hollywood families that exemplify what true Hollywood royalty should be and is.
I just bought the Bing “favourite“ pipe, crooner blend tobacco and some slippers, so now I can listen to some Bing on 78 shellack records on my old gramophone and learn to “chill out“ like Mr. Crosby taught us to do back then. Fine example of American integrity and values and work ethic and talent rising up, still why I admire the America if then😌
Bing Crosby was as involved as many entertainers did during that time. The entire nation was very involved in this war effort. We have not gone to this level as a nation since. Businesses were involved, sports did, families got so involved to do to support what the military soldiers needed to succeed. The generation had a huge feeling of responsibility and integrity towards what we were facing. We don’t have this so deeply as a nation anymore in my view. Not working together in all areas of America back then. It is a real shame.
Judy Evancic Yes ! Stars interrupted their careers in their prime to do whatever they were asked to do for the war effort. Nowadays it is not like that.
SO GREAT TO SEE THAT BING LIVED LONG ENOUGH TO SEE HE HAD FINALLY GOTTEN IT RIGHT WITH HIS SECOND FAMILY...A SHAME WHAT HAPPENED TO HIS FOUR CHILDREN FROM HIS FIRST MARRIAGE TO DIXIE LEE...ALL DEAD BEFORE THEIR TIME AND HE TOOK THE BLAME...HE WAS BUSY MAKING A LIVING TO KEEP THEM LIVING IN LUXURY,,,,NOT HIS FAULT THEY DESTROYED THEMSELVES.....MISS HIM AROUND CHRISTMAS EVERY YEAR...AND I REMEMBER BING VERY WELL AS A CHILD BECAUSE I AM 81 NOW...
Bing was the BEST VOICE EVER! I grew up with Bing and remember seeing 'White Christmas' when it came out in 1954 in Hollywood, Florida. There are negative comments from some here but remember they killed Lincoln and crucified Jesus. Most are probably rock and roll/rap crappers who like screaming, pig callers and instrument bashers which rock and roll is. I'll stick with Bing along with Frank, Dean, the Big Bands and Lawrence Welk thank you!!
@@VirginiaCook-lx1qv Read the new things, books articles and the information about his son being reinterviewed about his book and his responses and that it has been mentioned by another family member that he later apologised to the family in regards to the book. Interesting stuff....
From what I’ve read Bing Crosby never should’ve had children. He was a much better father figure to the world than he was to his own real children. Very sad.
@John Caulfield Did you see him beat them? I got whipped when I was a child, too, but it made me a better person. My mama was the one who whipped us....and we deserved it every time. I loved her dearly and we were very good friends when I grew up.
@John Caulfield Bing's strong drinking days were well behind him, at Dixie's insistence, very very early on in his first marriage. Dixie is credited for being the person who inspired his successful turnaround and his career soared. His son remarked his father was the only family member whom he never saw drunk. He had seven children the last three always speak lovingly of their father as did Phillip from the first marriage. Dennis and Linny, the two sons who suicided, gave quotes defending their father after the eldest sons book was released. "Crosby family blasts book". His eldest sons book has had parts queried over the years and he was reinterviewed later on and when challenged about certain allegations in his book commented, he couldn't remember writing those things as he was drunk at the time. I think there was probably truth and fault from both sides.
Was there anyone better in America for American songs? I doubt it.. Judy Garland maybe, but, not by much. He was and most importantly still is, an American treasure!!!
Bing helped us to relax. This may surprise people but White Christmas wasn't his favorite Christmas song- it was Silent Night. Certainly he knew how important WC was to,his career.
Any Acclaim he deserves for his talent is overshadowed by the cruel horrific way he treated his family. Being a singer and being rich is not what makes you a success in life. It's what you leave behind and he left nothing but hate and bitterness. Very sad.
@@anniegillespie7935 His wives adored him, 6 of his 7 children supported him and only the one son was highly critical in a book that has had some parts queried. Even Gary's son said some lovely things about his grandfather.
I have a commemorative Jim Beam decanter from the 29th Bing Crosby National Pro-Am. (January 1970). 15 bucks in a little out of the way antique shop in New England = and worth a lot more. (Thanks guys!)
I never cared for "White Christmas" though I love Clooney and Crosby. "Holiday Inn" was such a beautifully done film. I met Kathryn Crosby once and she was very sweet woman. Gary Giddins book on Crosby is really a treasure. I only wished that people had enough interest in Crosby to have him finish the second volume.
I JUST READ SOMETHING REGARDING THE SONG "WHITE CHRISTMAS" WHICH WAS FIRST SUNG BY BING IN "HOLIDAY INN" IN 1942...EVERYONE THINKS THE DECCA RECORDING WE HEAR TODAY WAS THE ORIGINAL RECORDING....BUT WHEN DECCA RE RELEASED THE RECORD IN 1947, THEY FOUND THE MASTER RECORDING HAD BEEN USED SO MANY TIMES THEY COULD NO LONG USE IT..IT WAS WORN OUT...SO BING RE RECORDED THE SONG AGAIN IN 1947 AND THAT RELEASE IS THE ONE WE HEAR TODAY ON RE ISSUES OF HIS CHRISTMAS RECORDS....ALSO DANNY KAYE WAS NOT FIRST CHOICE TO STAR OPPOSITE BING IN "WHITE CHRISTMAS" IN 1954...PARAMOUNT WANTED TO USE FRED ASTAIRE AGAIN AS THEY HAD IN 1942 BUT HE WAS NOT AVAILABLE...SO DANNY KAYE WAS GIVEN THE ROLE AND WERE WE LUCKY...THEY PAIRED WELL MOST PEOPLE WOULD AGREE...AND I THINK THAT IT IS SUPERIOR TO "HOLIDAY INN"...MUCH MORE WARMER TO WATCH...AT CHRISTMAS TIME....MORE HEART....

Every time the subject of Harry "Bing" Lillis Crosby comes up, somebody always goes all tabloid and brings up things that may or may not have happened...How about just commenting on what he personally gave us---the audience, be it at our homes or as we were soldiers in a war etc?.....I just hope those who constantly comment on his personal life will never have that finger of judgment pointed at them some day, in the exact same ruthless manner....There is only One who has been appointed Who has the right to judge anyone and that is Jesus Himself...The Father gave Him and only Him the right to judge because after all, He earned that right....So whatever happened that is the truth in Bing's life, is between him and Jesus....the same for all of us... I appreciate all the wonderful music and memories Bing gave me, and I celebrate that about him, and am truly thankful that God gave him such a talent to help so many people all over the world throughout his life....
White Christmas is a very beautiful song... about that winter season, but completely ignores the virginal birth of the Son of God who 33 years later was crucified as the lamb of sacrifice for our sins. Not once in the song can a little detail celebrating the incarnation of our Lord and Savior be found. The same with a lot of 'christmas carols' that talk about sleighs, reindeers and snowmen but somehow are considered 'christmas classics'. However, that has nothing to do with my personal love for Bing Crosby and his 1-derful musical legacy. And that movie is a favorite of my daughters and mine. Blessings from San Juan PR !!!
Away in a Manger and Silent Night (among many others) do a pretty good job of covering the religious aspect of the holiday season. The secular "classics" celebrating the popular cultural activities of the season are meaningful to people as well. Most people can make room in their hearts for both. For anyone who chooses to listen to or sing exclusively religious songs that is their prerogative....and vice versa, of course.
@@mbellizia75 Yeah, along with that Season Greetings idiocy, come on, there is no season without the reason, and the reason is that Jesus was born. And that's no 'made up stuff' !!!

What a sad sad pathetic comment. Read the new information about Bing, his sons book and the mistruths and half truths that are being cleared up. This man has a list of charitable acts for friends strangers employees and children's causes that very few could hope to achieve.
Funny, but "Holiday Inn" always gets lost in the shuffle. Vastly superior to "White Christmas", and it's the film where "White Christmas" was introduced. Nevertheless, Crosby was the first great pop singer and left nothing undone.
I AGREE THAT "HOLIDAY INN" IS A SUPERIOR FILM...BUT IT WAS SHOT RIGHT AFTER WE ENTERED THE 2ND WORLD WAR...SO NO TECHNICOLOR BECAUSE OF COST AND FILM STOCK WAS RATIONED...BUT I LOVE THOSE GREAT SONGS HE DID WITH ROSIE AND DANNY KAYE IN "WHITE CHRISTMAS" DANNY AND VERA ELLEN SWEPT YOU AWAY WHEN THEY DANCED TO THAT FABULOUS SONG "THE BEST THINGS HAPPEN WHEN YOUR DANCING" AND OF COURSE "COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS" WITH BING AND ROSIE....SO BOTH FILMS ARE ALWAYS WORTH WATCHING....
I love that scene by the fireplace where he sings "White Christmas" with the dubbed Marjorie Reynolds---it actually is one of my fav versions of the song he did where he hums and whistles and hits the bells on the tree with his pipe---I love that! Back when they lit candles on a Christmas tree!!! I think one of the reasons Holiday Inn gets so overlooked is because in this overly politically correct world, the Abraham song and dance number is probably objectionable....Yes it was wrong we did those things but it was a very real part of our history, and maybe people didn't want to know that many of the big time entertainers actually started out early in their careers in "blackface"....to pretend it didn't happen would be worse than to just bury this good movie due to one song and dance number about Abraham Lincoln.
I COULDN"T AGREE MORE! It's like NO ONE Wants to EVER talk about the CRIMES that this country has done to others! INSTEAD we just try to BURY them and Act as IF they NEVER HAPPENED! In GEMANY they actually TEACH their children about the CRIMES of HITLER and the NAZIS! They don't BURY and HIDE from "THE TRUTH"! They EMBRACE IT and TEACH ABOUT IT so that it DOESN'T Happen EVER AGAIN!
Catherine Crosby looks fine. A little surgery to keep eyes open but the rest is surely pretty natural. She's got lovely classical bonestructure. I don't understand why there's so much criticism.
Loved Bing. But in Spokane it is called Gun za guh. Yes it is a more correct pronunciation to say Gonzhguh. But it s what we call it. It is my Alma mater. When Bing went there it was a Prep School.
You see face lifts all the time, but don’t know it....... the good work is not obvious at all. But this poor woman has had way too much work....or very bad work.

@ 9:53, it's hysterical that two people who are not Christians are trying to analyze Bing's attachment to both the film, [White Christmas] and the holiday specials he used to put on... and they miss it, completely! It's because Bing was a devout Catholic; and, as a committed Christian, that holiday means more to us than anything, except Easter. "You saw something behind the song..." "How important those Christmas songs were...". Duh. And even as they acknowledge it, they deny that reality: those "Bing" TV specials were NOT a 'secular celebration of Christmas.' No Christian can ever secularize Christmas. It's incarnated in our flesh and blood- that's why Bing had his family there. Yes, he learned only later in life how to be both a husband and father. But the point is, his art and his faith are up there on the screen, every time you look at him. And White Christmas was the last decent film to portray that holiday in such a fashion, even as it didn't overtly mention it.
It is hysterical that you think that White Christmas is a devotional film, or has anything whatsoever to do with Christianity, other than the season and name of the film. His Catholicism has nothing to do with that movie.
I never said the FILM is a devotional film. You read into my statements that fact, exposing your own bias against Christianity. And the fact that a person's incarnate faith means nothing to you, shows how shallow your own existence is. Every writer, including Jesus himself, stated that the premise of Deut 6:4 would suffuse a believer's life. That you would deny this to Bing, is just sick. You may disagree with me, but don't blaspheme.@@jonholcombe
"After the second or third exchange with a heretic, leave him in his sins" .- St. Paul. I think I'll leave you now....just as the priests taught me, prior to 1966.
Bing's wife certainly does NOT know how to grow old gracefully. She is absolutely frightening and illustrates that a lot of money does not guarantee good plastic surgery results. Women! Grow old gracefully.
Nice to see his son and his wife, still here with us. He did have the golden voice of this time. What happened to his other son and daughter? The one that shot J.R. Ewing?
He was a very traditional Catholic father, a total totalitarian king with his family being his subjects. I grew up in such a loveless authoritarian family also with a dad who felt that any love on his part might turn us into pansies.
If the boys all supposedly despised him how come the three younger boys from Dixie gave defensive quotes about their father after the book was released. Another son said the 3 sons in question were devastated by Gary's book. There are a number of lovely comments about Bing by Phil and Linny. Gary himself was apparently planning a tribute album to his father before his passing, and his book has been queried over time. Not the discipline rather the extent thereof. He was later reinterviewed, 9 hours taped, and challenged about certain claims, his responses were interesting.
Did you know for all his jazz leanings and his work with black entertainers. Crosby never had Louis Armstrong to his house. I think that is a shame, I don't have Crosby's money but I would of welcomed Pops in a heartbeat !
His wife explained that that was taken out of context. Bing very rarely entertained any celebrity/friends at his home, why? Because he valued his privacy, because of his first wife's problems and also apparently because his mother, who later lived with them, wouldn't allow entertainment people in the home. Bing loved Louis Armstrong and went into bat for him against the movie studios. I'm glad it was explained that the quote about Bing and Louis was taken out of context. They were friends who greatly respected one another. Fabulous men and entertainers. Louis had the most beautiful smile ever.
@@mitzymoo3151 Why did Pops say that in the biography witten about him, Satch was quoted as such. According to a biography of Bob Hope, Bing never had them to dinner. As far as your quotation from Kathryn, Do you really think that she would disagree. In rhe long run it is all water under the bridge. A Happy Thanksgiving.
@@tomkelly4336 And recently I read that the quote was said back to Bing and he fondly responded that he had not been invited to Mr Armstrong's house either. But I am sure that I read of bob having had been invited to Bing and Kathryn's for a meal in one of the books about Bing's life. They were all good friends and completely talented people. I especially love Bing and Louie.
@@mitzymoo3151 Actually the Bob Hope quote was from the bio that came out a few years ago. As far as Pops and Bing Crosby, if Bing didn't invite Louis to his house why should reciprocate? I have read though that Bing Crosby was a very private man and that except for family was pretty much a loner. I love Louis Armstrong, indeed he is one of the greatest musicians of the 20rh century.
@@tomkelly4336 I'll have to check but I'm pretty sure I read of bob being at Bing's in one of Kathryn's books. It's like the second hand quote attributed to bob about not liking Bing, when in one of bobs books, written by bob himself, he says Bing's was the best friendship he ever had and that he thought Bing could do no wrong. He did defend Bing and acknowledge his friendship with Bing for years after Bing's passing. His wife Delores also spoke of the love they had for each other as friends. There have been numerous half truths and mistruths about bing since his passing, a lot of which are now being cleared up.
Bing was great as entertainer but truly cruel and a monster to his first wife and kids to the point it drove he wife to drink and suaside as one of first kids ,then cutting them out the will ,but except sadly for that a very clever and gifted man who brought the recoding device from Germany and made it his own,and white Christmas truly outside the bible Christmas tunes the greatest, and bollocks to Elvis indolence by Bing,he liked him as most but he was truly inspired by the likes B.B King and the gospel church
His first wife suffered from extreme shyness and low self esteem. She apparently drank socially early on and it exacerbated over time. It has been said that she was lonely with her husband being away for vast amounts of time but she was not comfortable going out socially with Bing and refused to accompany him at times. Everything I've read states she was a beautiful, kind and honest woman who struggled with her Hollywood life. Bing tried to get her help and they say she was good for periods of time but would relapse when he went on the road again. She was a strict disciplinarian herself, not always available to her son's, but when well was warm loving and attentive. She passed from cancer, not suicide and she adored her husband. The boys weren't disinherited, they had received substantial trust funds at 21 and were receiving cheques from investments from money set up through their parents, long after Bing had passed these investments went bust, after this the youngest son suicided. The boys were to receive their money at 65, not out of cruelty, but so the money wouldn't be squandered and to make sure they were looked after later. This is all from things I have read. Bing wasnt the best father, which he regretted, but I'm not sure he was the monster he has been portrayed as either. 2017 redeeming Bing Crosby is a gem article that talks about some of the mistruths about bing, how they began and clears up and puts in perspective some of the stories about him.
He never cut any of his children out of his will. The boys from the first marriage received trust fund money when they turned 21 and financial help from their father all his life. When he died he left them another chunk of money they were to receive when they turned 65. As for Elvis, yeah he never credited Bing with influencing him but he did say his biggest influence was Dean Martin and guess who Dino said was HIS biggest influence.
I am not fond of Bing Crosby. Beautiful voice but the best thing you can achieve in life is raising ALL your children with love. He lacked this important quality but was very good at using a persona which was the opposite of his real values; his children suffered from this coverup persona. Ditto for his second wife Catherine Crosby. God bless his boys that died from suicide. I pray for those boys.
Bing was always totally honest with how he raised his children, if you read about him. His oldest son, who wrote the book, commented he could feel the unspoken love of his father and the book that he wrote has had parts queried. He was later reinterviewed and asked about some of his claims and his responses were interesting. His son's suicided in their 50s and it has been known that their actions had very little if anything to do with their father. People need to read about Bing more and ignore some of the half truths and mistruths aimed at him since his passing. His second wife was very nice to the first set of boys and they never spoke negatively about her at all in anything I've read, rather they were complimentary. Bing wasn't a great father first time around, but he loved his boys and his first wife. His persona as you say, was perpetuated through movies, etc. Bing never claimed any angel like qualities, rather it was the public projecting the perfect image on to him. He spoke about spanking his children and the strictness very early on, but back in his day a lot of parents disciplined the same way and so rather than being critical they actually wrote to him seeking advice about parenting. He learnt better the second time around when he was semi retired and had a second wife who did not have the issues that his beautiful first wife suffered with. Both wives adored him.
Bing rarely invited anybody to his home for various reasons. He was a very private person, his wife's problems and later because his mother, who was living with them, refused to have celebs in the house, from what I've read. Bing was a great champion of equality. Try reading how he went into bat for Mr. Armstrong in his movies, there is also a great interview with a lovely lady who worked with Bing for many years who sang his praises.
America's holiday annus horribilis was 1977. We lost Christmas with Bing's death in October and New Year's Eve with Guy Lombardo's death in November. Now, candy canes and "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer" are politically incorrect. So, far, the Grinch is safe.
Kathryn Grant, Bing's widow. At one time, a beauty. But then she got WAY too much plastic surgery. Google Wayland and Madame and see how she now looks like the puppet.
I never really thought of Crosby of Christmas, yes White Christmas truly brilliant tune, but other than that the rest average,His wife truly over did surgery,it sadly looks like she been in fire, like Priscilla Presley, she looks like acid attack victim,The King or the Beatles were not influence by Crosby,Elvis by country and Gospel, then after Presley he influence the ther.rest
John Lennon had a juke box in his Manhattan apartment filled with nothing but Crosby records. As for Elvis, the one popular singer that Elvis admitted to being influenced by was Dean Martin. And guess who Dean Martin said his biggest influence was growing up.
@@Wife_Mother_Failure Seven children, one wrote the book, the others admitted his faults but gave defensive quotes about their father after the books release.

He was off he’s time, when if you knew the right people you could get away with anything.I Bet he was a miserable Man in private who didn’t like it unless he was doing only what HE wanted to do
When his latest and probably best biographer interviewed people who knew Bing, he found most of them loved him. His two wives adored him and out of seven children only the one son wrote negatively about him, the others whilst admitting his faults mainly defended him.
@@alfching2499 : Age eventually catches up with everyone. My vain, narcissistic mother had a lot of plastic surgery. When she died at age 92 she looked like the the King Tut mummy.
I think even the son who wrote the book mentioned Bing rarely raised his voice or lost his cool. He might have had a temper but he kept it under control well then. He and his wife didn't argue in front of the kids either from what I've read. I don't know where he was supposed to have had a temper....
I always heard he beat his kids with his first wife!!! Dixie!!! And was horrible to..them ......I never liked him!!!! Sinatra was the one for me!! Much better Voice!!!
Need to read a bit more about him before judging. He was not a perfect parent but he loved his boys as did Dixie, who was a strict disciplinarian as well. Out of seven children only one wrote a derogatory book and the others admitted his faults but largely defended their father after the books release. Later on the son that wrote the book was reinterviewed, 9 hours of recorded time, and when challenged about certain details written, made mention that he couldn't remember writing some things as he had been drunk at the time. Not the only details that would make one think that certain elements in the book should be queried. I've read some terrible things about Sinatra, but choose to think that some things written were either distorted or not true. Actually I thought Bing was not only more talented but better looking as well, but personal preference only.
It is always easy for rich celebrities to talk about not being racist and civil rights because that don't have to live around the blacks if they don't want to

The guy could sing...enriched many by lifting their spirits in song.
Kathryn was so cool and nice, I went to the same dance academy as her and would see her everyday, she was so sweet and awesome
I WELL ALWAYS LOVE HIS MUSIC--GREAT ENTERTAINER FOR SURE
I just bought the Bing “favourite“ pipe, crooner blend tobacco and some slippers, so now I can listen to some Bing on 78 shellack records on my old gramophone and learn to “chill out“ like Mr. Crosby taught us to do back then. Fine example of American integrity and values and work ethic and talent rising up, still why I admire the America if then😌
Savanill has a Bing pipe called Bings Favorite. Long stem.
@@1533ramsay Yes...I have one. Long stem, slightly curved and smokes very nicely thank you (in my best Bing imitation!).
I love Mele Kalikimaka! It’s featured in the film Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase. I learned the lyrics after I heard it. Fun song.
Bing was our 1st crooner !
Bing Crosby is undoubtelly the greatest all-time singer. Frank Sinatra was a genius but Bing is above any other singer, the number one master of song.
It is NOT Christmas without Bing Crosby.
He was the best in the whole wide world ❤
Bing Crosby was as involved as many entertainers did during that time.
I grew up with Bing Crosby. I even remember when he married Kathryn and the birth of their first child. Thanks for the memory.
Bing had the gift to make you stop what you were doing to just let his voice surround you.
Then why was he so hard on his kids?
@@VirginiaCook-lx1qv Read the new things, books articles and the information about his son being reinterviewed about his book and his responses and that it has been mentioned by another family member that he later apologised to the family in regards to the book. Interesting stuff....
No one comes close to Bing today in Hollywood...Sad!
Hollywood is a dumpster fire!🔥
He was an ass of a father. THAT is who you put on a pedestal?
@John Caulfield no
Was there anyone better in America for American songs? I doubt it.. Judy Garland maybe, but, not by much. He was and most importantly still is, an American treasure!!!
that was a real christmas with or without money
Bing Crosbys family show with his second wife was so nice.
Absolutely a universal treasure.

The last records he made like Seasons and feels good, feels right are some of his finest. If anything his voice got better.

Sounds classy like Bing.
Giddins did finish the second volume . It was published about two years ago. Now whether we get the final volume is another matter entirely.

I agree!

Bing was my friend❤ He was a father figure to me after my dad had a heart attack.

Nailed it! Holiday Inn was a much better film by far.
Holiday Inn is my favourite Christmas film, followed by White Christmas and the Alistair Sim version of Scrooge.

YEP..JE.....ARMY STORY..& MEETING BING..JE..8/2020
Apparently Bing's dark side came out at home where his boys feared and despised their father. Read the Daddy Dearest book written by one of his sons.
He was a very traditional Catholic father, a total totalitarian king with his family being his subjects. I grew up in such a loveless authoritarian family also with a dad who felt that any love on his part might turn us into pansies.
He was horrible to his first kids!! An awful person!! Did not care for ! Bing at ALl
If the boys all supposedly despised him how come the three younger boys from Dixie gave defensive quotes about their father after the book was released.
Love this ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
0:38 She was married to Sinbad the Sailor and survived the Cyclops and Dragon. Then there was Bing.
Whom she adored....
Oh Mrs Crosby. You look fantastic. Mayb chill on the botox. Your face looks frozen in time.
Funny how they left out that Crosby was expelled from Gonzaga University and why he was kicked out.

These people are nuts over plastic surgery.
*At **0:43**...isn't that the 'Crypt Keeper' in 'drag?'*
*ps I wonder if his sons were listening to 'Dear Old Dad' singing "White Christmas" when they were committing suicide*

I find it so disturbing that you can’t do a story about anyone without someone being interviewed brings up that old reliable race card
No racial hangups? I heard louis Armstrong said he was never invited to his home!
Why are candy canes politically incorrect?
We also lost Elvis and Maria Callas that year.

She is scary looking. Why didn't her children stop her.
Too bad his interactions with his family and fellow entertainers were not as good as his voice.
Sheryl Benkosky Every one of us have gifts, faults and personality quirks. Bing was a national treasure.
When his latest and probably best biographer interviewed people who knew Bing, he found most of them loved him. His two wives adored him and out of seven children only the one son wrote negatively about him, the others whilst admitting his faults mainly defended him.
Good God... what has she done to her face? Whatever happened to allowing yourself to age gracefully?
I know What a insecure old freak.who is she anyway ??????
@@alfching2499 : Age eventually catches up with everyone. My vain, narcissistic mother had a lot of plastic surgery. When she died at age 92 she looked like the the King Tut mummy.
He was not an angel. At all. Horrendous abuse if first set of sons.
Read all of the new information surrounding the mistruths and half truths aimed at Bing since his passing. No not an angel but definitely a good man.
Okn
Bing is not the voice of Christmas. Andy Williams is!
Andy who????
andy shmandy
Crosby also had a lake house on Hayden. He reportedly had a nasty temper
It is always easy for rich celebrities to talk about not being racist and civil rights because that don't have to live around the blacks if they don't want to
Ignorant statement at its best. And for the everyday American, who would want too.
One of the absolute worst cosmetic surgery results ever seen! What is wrong with growing old gracefully and naturally? If you want an example of a celebrity who has done so - check out Tom Selleck!
Yeah he could sing but let’s not forget about how apparently he was quite mean and abusive to his kids and mean to his wife as well.
Just speculation ...... one of his sons denied it all saying the eldest son who claimed all that was a ‘terrible liar ..... doing it just for the money”

@@sallygard63 well you know the American way....let someone become successful and society tries to tear them back down, lol sad.
@@gregmatyas4272 He adored his first wife who suffered from extreme shyness, self esteem and alcohol issues, which she bravely battled for years. She adored him as well. His second wife didn't have the problems of his first and she also adored him. Both marriages each lasted around 20 years....
I'm sure he was a nice guy but I can't stand his music..
