Hey man, just wanted to chime in that I mainly used this video to help me walk through the sprocket change on my own 696 today. Appreciate you.

On my 796 the front bolt of the rear hanger also holds the side stand, looks the same on your 696. I hadn't noticed as it's kind of in behind, when I undid it the bike fell on me. Obviously I don't have a padlock stand. No major damage (apart from greasy finger prints on the nice white tank) as I took most of the impact :) but worth being aware of. Otherwise pretty straight forward.
14T sprocket is a nice improvement in my opinion especially two up. A good cheap way to experiment, will go back to 15 front and likely three teeth bigger on the back when the chain needs replacing.

Did you ever go back to 15 and go larger on the rear?

Great informative video. Just one question. What exactly is holding the sprocket and preventing it from sliding in and out on that shaft? I see the two screws that hold that plate washer thing on. Is it that washer that secures it in place? Or is it designed so the sprocket can move a little on that splined shaft? I just want to understand before I take it apart and give it a try. Thanks.

Alex Wright the washer has splines and the shaft has a groove in it. You have to line up the teeth to free and pull the washer. Let me know if you need more information?

Removing a tooth will create a little more slack in the chain. Will this be a problem? Did you have to make any additional adjustments?

Yes you’ll have to adjust the chain using the chain adjusters on the rear axle

i really like it! i dont downshift as much on the fwy and i feel the bike was more lively. i really cant think of any negatives besides a lower top speed. i can do a video for this :)

What is the effect on the fuel consumption ?

so far nothing too crazy maybe 5 miles less per tank. i get pretty inconsistent tank mileage to begin with. really depends of im going fast or in traffic that tank
