There's something magical about the way this man performs. He doesn't leap about the stage with a manic grin on his face like many other artists; that would detract from the beauty, he lets his music do it for him. He stands still and composed, the artistry, the drama is played out on the strings of his guitar. The soul, the feeling, the raw emotions he conjures with a single pluck is truly breathtaking. The occasional wry smile creeps past to his fellow performers, the rhythmic tapping of his foot to the beat, you know Mark is EXACTLY where he belongs.
Sometimes I feel he is not where he should be! He should be recognized as the most unique and original and versatile guitar player on this earth! He does not have to compensate lack of fantasy, imagination or creativity with speed or loudness as so many others do!!! And besides that he is one of the greatest song writers! The world would be miserable without his melodies that creep deep into your heart and soul!!
That 3 strings vibrato in D chord is magic, simple but magic. He is always proving new sounds for each song he has, some bands sound exactly like the version studio for years.

Watching the ease and grace with which he moves his thumb, and his left hand effortlessly traveling up and down the neck, bending notes that make me wanna cry and sing . . . like I said, words can't do justice to his brilliance and soulfulness.
Watch him...his playing is like melted butter, effortless...and not using a pick, he's basically playing the banjo...every not is crisp and clean. One more than one occasion I have heard him referred to as England's Jerry Garcia. Garcia is who I measure guitarists against and Knopfer is right up there with the best of them.
