I've been living bicoastal between Northern California and Staunton, VA since 1978. I finally decided to settle here in Staunton since my parents live in Rockbridge County, and I'm close to retirement age. Unfortunately, as a result of the rise in property taxes recently,I can no longer afford to live here. People are charging over $1000.00 per month for a room and bathroom in somebody else's house! My Landlord, in one fell swoop, raised my rent $200.00 per month after years of paying my rent on time, and not a single improvement has been done to the house. This is a total nightmare. I literally can no longer survive here. I'm having to make a new plan so I don't end up an old lady on the streets.
Have lived in Staunton all my life (47 years) and I can’t remember a time when there was less to do for the youth. At one time there was skate town and we actually had a mall with an arcade and a movie theater. I love it here and always will but the lack of things to do is severely lacking.
We need another movie theater. The young people always showed up for the cheaper costing movie theater and seemed to enjoy it!!!@@VirginiaMountainToValleyLiving
Thanks for the info. Love Staunton. Grew up in Central VA (Louisa). Living in Fairfax and looking to get back to a less urban area. But I have an 11-year-old who is doing well in school after a bumpy road. I don't want to uproot him. This is helpful. Thank your for creating a lovely town.
I moved to Staunton in April 2022, fell in love with the Shenandoah Valley the year prior when I vacationed in Staunton. Thank you for talking about The Oak Grove Theater I never heard about it before.
Staunton is NOT in The Shenandoah Valley. It is in The Great Valley of Virginia. The Shenandoah Valley is ONLY everything west of The Massanutten Mountain! This is a recent phenomenon created by the internet. Places other than The Shenandoah Valley can make money off of unsuspecting tourists who just don't know.
I guess they haven't checked out any of the incredible theater going on or live music. American Shakespeare Center even had kids theater camps. There are several places kids can do theater. The escape room is awesome. There are lots of cool things to do here!
Hi Rozzie: Staunton is a fantastic place, and yes, it has great music, art, and theater. Check these videos out where we talk all about the arts that Staunton has to offer! ua-cam.com/video/JNef5w7FUGs/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/bEUBX_AqiKY/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/I-rt6WT93PI/v-deo.html
Hi Rozzie, We love the Magic and MIschief Festival as well. We've talked about it in several of our videos. Hopefully the rain will cooperate this fall (unlike this past year) and we can do an entire video on it! Thanks for watching! Call us if you ever need help.
I recently took my wife on the Virginia Scenic Railway (romantic train ride). My wife and I ate at Byers Street Bistro and walked over to Cider from Mars. I like Staunton.
The reason Belk didn't take down the property that it sits on was bought n paid for by Leggetts when it was built. I agree prices are too high in staunton. The high school use to be one of the best in the county. There use to be places for teenagers to do in Staunton.there was the teen room where we could go dancing n use the jute box. There were bands every weekend and places to dance for teens. Everyone knew everyone else. There were jobs everywhere. I can go on, but the people who grew up here know what it use to be.
Hello hello I live in PG county ( right outside of Washington DC) and for a myriad of reasons I've been thinking about relocating to a smaller town in the mountain region. The Staunton area is one of the areas I'm loosely considering.. Question ? I own a small solo lawn and landscaping buisness here in PG. What is your honest assement for a new resident to build a lawn and landscaping buisness in the Staunton/Waynesboro area? Is the market wide open or more competitive/saturated in your opinion? Btw, all my equipment and trucks are fully paid for so my prices are reasonable as I'm good at keeping my expenses down. Thanks for any thoughts you can offer

Appreciate your comments. What would you like to see built for our young people?

@@reginaramos8726Tell me about it. We live in a “city” and all we have is a run down tiny Visulite that is dirty and the bathrooms reek of urine.

I love Staunton! ❤
So do we!!
Staunton does suck. There’s nothing here to do unless you’re into theater. There’s not even any good restaurants or things to do.
are yall happy in ur marriage?
