I moved to Staunton in April 2022, fell in love with the Shenandoah Valley the year prior when I vacationed in Staunton. Thank you for talking about The Oak Grove Theater I never heard about it before.

It must be better than Staunton for sure. My friend moved there and is a really nice man and his neighbors have harassed him, stolen from him and damaged his property many times. Finally had one man arrested just today and the woman, who may have mental health issues, is finally under a restraining order. My wife and me were considering Staunton as a place to retire but now absolutely no way. Pretty town but it is very creepy with some natives who apparently hate and harass any newcomers from outside their little valley world. Off the list but sadly can’t afford Crozet or the nice and safe areas of Chapel Hill or Hendersonville, North Carolina.

This guy knows exactly what he’s doing and who he’s trying to keep out of his area lol and I don’t blame him!

The Downtown Mall: lovely. The aggressive panhandlers there who frighten people--especially women, not so lovely. They also sleep in the doorways of some of the shops. Should it get much worse it could destroy the mall, as it has in other cities. And a city council that either can't or won't address the problem: very frustrating, as are many of their decisions that are driven by a progressive ideology over common sense.

Northern Virginia transplants are ruining the valley!

Hi,we are Fam of 3,my daughter is 8y old and we will move to one of the 3,Richmond area,Staunton or Winchester.We live in Woodbridge now.More i watch and read about Richmond,more i am put off by it,we are looking for a safe place for my kiddo to grow up.Watching all your videos ,they tell me a lot about how Staunton is and i am loving it! Our lease here expires on May 2025 and we already have a lender,our price range is 300K.

Cluelessly, I booked a room at Hotel 24 South on a roadtrip from Oklahoma to Maryland. I was stunned by its beauty and charm. It was giving me Hall Mark movie vibes! It is a nerd's paradise. I did begin looking at homes on Zillow just to daydream about how happy this nerd would be to live there! At the least, I will be back next year for a proper vacation!

The reason Belk didn't take down the property that it sits on was bought n paid for by Leggetts when it was built. I agree prices are too high in staunton. The high school use to be one of the best in the county. There use to be places for teenagers to do in Staunton.there was the teen room where we could go dancing n use the jute box. There were bands every weekend and places to dance for teens. Everyone knew everyone else. There were jobs everywhere. I can go on, but the people who grew up here know what it use to be.

Very boring place, stuck in a 1950s time warp. High end shopping at Wal Mart Fast food s a delicacy. there. More auto parts stores than people. Cops lie in wait to issue summonses for driving 8mph over the posted speed llimit. You have been warned.

You're a great orator! Try pronouncing Mcgaheysville. Jazz in the park is great in my estimation. If ya grew up on the east coast, one thing ya can really miss out west is deciduous trees. Another big draw is motorcycle riding in the GWNF. Costco has Virginia peanuts. Fall also means winter is near so my favorite is spring. Nice video. Blessings!

I recently took my wife on the Virginia Scenic Railway (romantic train ride). My wife and I ate at Byers Street Bistro and walked over to Cider from Mars. I like Staunton.

Yeah - gotta agree with the review you put on blast. I lived there back in 2002 just because I got a job there in Charlottesville and moved to Staunton with my son as a single mom. I left after 2 years and it was the best decision I ever made. There was zero diversity in this town and felt very segregated. Sure if you have lots of money to spend those little kitschy shops downtown might work for you, but realistically not much to offer. I liked the gothic buildings and the architecture which was really the only highlight of living there. There really wasn’t much going on there and not a lot of activities to introduce my son to. Look if you are in retirement or wealthy sure maybe it’s the place for you, but as a young single mom with many life interests like music and art, that place was less than desirable. Like I said, leaving there was the best decision for my son and myself and since we have thrived where we are currently residing.

I live in Reston. Its so much more affordable where you are. My 40 year old 1200 square foot townhouse is valued at more than this house. Do you get many people from Northern Virginia moving to your location?

The size and geographical diversity of VA is the most notable thing I noticed when I moved to the state about 15 yrs ago. From entering VA from DC down to the TN state line is about a 6 hr drive. The differences between the regions of the state are enormous.

How can l keep in touch with you...

In recent weeks areas have suffered huge floods where none have occurred in decades, even longer. Weather patterns are changing. I'd pay close attention to flood zones and avoid buying in or near them.

Seasons are great but the humidity in summer is a killer!

Funny ... my mom lived in VA her entire life (she grew up in the Charlottesville area and moved to Waynesboro when she married my dad back in the 60s) and she till her death (2018) said "Stawn-ton" not "Stan-ton". I've never met anyone else who pronounced it that way ... from VA that is. I have no idea where she got that from or why she refused to change when people looked at her funny or corrected her. She was a trooper about saying Stawn-ton!

i love small beautiful small towns, will be moving to Virginia soon. Still trying to figure out where.

I've been living bicoastal between Northern California and Staunton, VA since 1978. I finally decided to settle here in Staunton since my parents live in Rockbridge County, and I'm close to retirement age. Unfortunately, as a result of the rise in property taxes recently,I can no longer afford to live here. People are charging over $1000.00 per month for a room and bathroom in somebody else's house! My Landlord, in one fell swoop, raised my rent $200.00 per month after years of paying my rent on time, and not a single improvement has been done to the house. This is a total nightmare. I literally can no longer survive here. I'm having to make a new plan so I don't end up an old lady on the streets.
