WSS: Season 3, Week 7 | Mazda MX5's at Cadwell Park (Full Layout)

- It's a new week of racing on WSS and this week back on home soil in the Lincolnshire Wolds, as we take to the track at Cadwell Park. I only live about 30 miles from this place, although I've never visited it. This week we're racing the full circuit, however I think it's fair to say it's a real struggle. I don't know if it's the track, the car, the car at the track, my driving . . . (insert 100 other excuses here) . . . but this has to be one of my worst drives in a long time. It's certainly making me consider whether they've run their course and it's time to move on from the Mazda's on Assetto Corsa

It's tough when it all starts to fall apart Nick.
I think you probably put so much practice into the endurace event and then all those laps over the 6 Hrs has effected your muscle memory.
Switching between cars can cause silly mistakes as the braking and turn in points are usually diffferent and it takes time to get back into the swing of things.

Don't worry too much. Everyone has a bad race from time to time. And switching back from the GT3 to the MX-5 seems not that easy after all those hours in the GT3. But if you really don't enjoy the MX-5 anymore, just race something different. Simracing should be fun and you shouldn't feel obligated to race the MX-5 if you don't like them anymore.
But I think WSS has a problem. I wasn't a fan of all those doubleheaders, but the lack of participation is a bigger problem. Yesterday there were only 5 races with 10 drivers or more. Today I have only seen 3 races with more than 10 drivers. A few months back every race between 2pm an 11pm has at least 10 drivers. And I don't think it will be better next week. Because it's at Ahvenisto. That seems like a copy of Cadwell Park in Finland. A very narrow track with a lot of elevation.
I think it's just the cross back over from the GT3. I've been spending less and less time in the Mazda over the last few weeks, even as far as not racing on LFM, to try and my keep head in the GT3 space for AC. I just need to put some time into it I think.
As for the WSS problem, I think track selection has always been an issue, and it's getting more evident. I don't mind the double headers, and I honestly thought that it might promote a bit of "closer racing" as people would be able to take some of what they learnt from the first week into the second week's race. For me it's more the type of tracks that are in use. Cadwell just isn't suited (and I'm really interested to see how it works on iRacing when it comes to the platform). Slovakiaring just didn't promote any sort of close racing and the field spread was too big. It was exactly the same last season at Silverstone international. I've not heard of the track next week so can't comment on it, but it looks short, tight and twisty, so not the best.
I have noticed that a lot of the "faster" guys don't seem to be around as much anymore. I know I've not been around as much, but I've not seen Olivetti now for a few weeks, Butler & Thomasson don't seem to be around anymore to name a few and I've seen a lot of posts on the Discord about rookies (another reason track selection isn't great, because it's hard for them to stay clean) who can't get lobbies that count because the participation numbers are down. I think they need to bring back a couple more rookie series, so that people aren't just stuck with the Mazda's, but also keep the track selection a bit more "basic". Hell, even run another Mazda series at AM / Pro-Am Level if they want to run more advanced tracks, much like iRacing has an advanced series for C Licence and above.
Post Sebring blues, put so much time and effort into something else and now everything else just feels wrong.
@@John74YT Yeah quite possibly. I’ll see the season out and then see how I feel. The Mazdas are just so convenient for me to race 🤔
