Great presentation and looking forward to the book when its finished! As someone who dabbles in all the things mentioned here (recreationally) I love the analysis of the mind of people who do this type of stuff for a living.
Successful people realize they must constantly re-assess and re-align themselves. This is not once in a blue moon but a constant re-evaluation of one’s performance. That was amazing. So when we fall, it’s all good. Assess, re-align and move forward, again.
Anyone who is hating in the comments obviously has never played poker professionally.. he gets this topic 100% correct here! He’s not talking about your average Joe who loses his life savings on roulette. He’s talking about professional players who are contrarian to the average Joe. Meaning it’s rare that people actually think like this, but when they do they are often successful.
Bayesian psychology is a field. You can actually give people surveys and help them calibrate subjective degrees of belief (definition of subjective Bayesian probabilities).
Betting on politics is one of the most profitable gambles you can ever make. I used Silver’s models to put down hundreds of thousands of dollars on the last election. Ironically, the best bets I made were vs the idiots that thought Trump would be reelected…this was after the election was already over between mid November up until inauguration day in January.
Interesting seeing Sacks and Friedberg sitting next to each other - like Nitro and Glycerin. Probably not. :) Silver compared Trumps winning chances to an NFL kicker making a 45 yard field goal. I will never forget that.
Nate silver predicted Trump had less than a 5% chance of winning the GOP nominee back in 2016….. disappointing Friedberg Giving Nate props for his Trump predictions…. Nate made some of the most inaccurate election predictions of any “media” outlet
A lot of these presenters have an arrogance about their intellect that seems pervasive in the tech/vc space. They often present common sense well understood topics in a disassociative way speaking with inflections and pauses as if saying "good gamblers calculate odds" is somehow profound and enlightening. There is something so pretentiously disgusting about the arrogance that it makes it almost impossible to listen to these presenters dribble off some half beaten solutions to complex problems. For every ounce of interesting thought you get a pound of useless shit.
An advisor once told I and my colleagues at work that the only way never to go broke trading was to buy with a good company,he thus said that Jobs will only pay your bills, business will you make you rich but crypt0 investment and trading makes and keep you wealthy, Mrs. Anita of blessed memory then asked him how known good companies? This question is still lingering in my mind
After my experience of slow emotional torture in 2017 when my portfolio fell by 45% in two weeks after investing funds meant for my daughter's bridal shower, I later devised a strategy,I don't hold minor companies anymore.

It's a good analyst, things are changing and we have to be smart how we follow what happens next. The market is going to change and we might experience a bullish moment soon but to get to the all time high we will have to wait. now is the time to in alt coin growing on the market. F*king fascinating, and ties in well with Tim Urban's insights about discourse as well

You should’ve seen Jason at the beginning of the podcast haha
No offense but his research presentation part of this discovered nothing new or profound at all about gamblers or poker players.
