For me I'm just excited. I have nothing to prove to anyone. I have trained all year by myself and it is a celebration with all. My goal, Not to die and just finished. The race people will tell me if I'm taking to long. Cheers
I have signed up for my first marathon in 2 weeks time for which I am woefully unprepared, but most days I can tell myself that I am going on an adventure rather than participating in a race. Might not be for everyone, but for me, that idea is a lot more appealing. 😁
Yesterday I signed for my first triathlon in Brighton, which is on 18 September, and I'm already anxious because I never swam in the sea and losing my breath after 100 meters in the pool, but I believe if I practice every day ill be alright and confidence will come eventually.
Careful , you must be able to swim continuously for half an hour before joining iron man. As long as marathon and cycling. I advise you to explore Vedio son how to prepare for iron man and download a schedule and stick to it. Good luck
Very interesting interview. Dr. Taylor is very knowledgeable and expresses himself clearly, and Mark did a great job facilitating the discussion based on his own experience. Nice job!
Cool to know the opinion of an expert and i do agree with the guy in everything. Also, i think nerves is something we learn to deal with more experience. I remember my first triatlon i didnt sleep at all the night before and i thought i was gonna drown in the lake. Surprisingly i enjoyed it a lot. So i think anxiety is something you have to assume is always gonna be there, otherwise competitions would mean nothing to us and then why doing it?
Hi, Patrick here from Mind Life Flow - have you tried Mindfulness Practices to assist in training and pre-race preparation? It can be very effective. Have others tried this? THanks
Hi there. I don't know what you are referring to. I don't recall being about to ask a question at the end. Can you tell me where in the segment you got this impression?
@@DrJimTaylor thanks for the reply! All the way at the end (the last 2 seconds), you started to ask something that didn't get edited out. I was being partially sarcastic in my reply, but I am curious what you were thinking would be really interesting to discuss!
@@trbeyond Ah yes, I saw it. I don't actually remember, but there will be shorter segments continuing to explore the mental side of triathlon upcoming GTN Shows. It will likely turn up there.

That's great advice, I'll use this mindset for my first marathon in October. Thanks lad!

Last week i I skipped my race, because of the fear my calf acting up during the event. This is something I need to get over.
This was very informative and educational 👍
Thanks!
awesome stuff about yawning! 😃🙌🏾 thank you for this!
You’re very welcome Peggy!!
Great advice! Love it :)
I love the feelings of butterflies before a race
Explained brilliantly by Tony Hawk’s long lost brother.
I go between being super confidant to pure fear on any given day!
Man the ending of that video 😂😂😂
Espectacular 👏 felicitaciones
I have 13 days till my First tri and the water as a new one year swimmer gives me anxiety 😅

I want to know what the Dr was about to ask right at the end when it cut out!
