A great band that never quite got the real credit due them. Absolutely ferocious, representing the great state of Louisiana
I was in the basement watching this interview happen. Badass as hell, and a hell of a weekend with a legendary band!
Killbot&GorGorAttack!! Big fan of them and you
Legendary indeed! Grind on🤘
Killbot&GorGorAttack!! I love you videos. I just saw you documentary on hanging out with them. Please do more things like that.
Ethan Hopper thank you, good dude!
Killbot you need way more subs been watching since the slayer vinyl thing
These guys are truly one of the heaviest bands ever. They are badass.
never got the recognition they deserve they are a killer band with 2 of the most killer records in metal history
Clearly. I've been listening to metal for 25 years..never heard of them until now
@@ragalyisp You can always dig deeper. "Slaughter in the Vatican" is fucking classic!🤘
Hey Vinnie, hey Kyle! In 2009 it was me, a 19 year old german, who discovered slaughter in the vatican on youtube
and i really was blown away. it sounds so rude, so heavy, so evil it was just a pleasure, i´ve never heared something like this before.
And that sound of this album was a big part of this. I love those recordings the most! and you really did not just play music,
you invented something new out of nothing, the greatest thing an artist can do. I still have a cassette of sitv and the law in my car today!
Welcome to real music
Really cool of them to credit their "groove" sound to funk music from New Orleans. Now I'm gonna go check out all those bands. Fucking awesome interview!
I'm from Louisiana, The Meters are absolutely a fantastic band!! Huge Dr. John fan also
Fuck yeah Exhorder! Slaughter In The Vatican is one of those albums... masterpiece indeed. The Law is incredible too. Can't wait to see em at Bloodstock!! \m/
Rhys G 🤘🤘🤘
i'm criminally late to Exhorder even though i've known the name a lot longer. cant wait to see these guys at BOA too !
Yes, one of those albums. Fucking groovetastic heavyness
Exhorder, and Acid Bath. Both from Louisiana, both criminally underrated for sheer creativity. Would love to see these guys maybe collab one or 2 songs with Dax Riggs.
I love these guys so much! 1997 I saw a pic of Phil Anselmo wearing an Exhorder shirt and I was instantly like, whooooaaa... what’s Exhorder??? Went to my local record store and picked up slaughter in the Vatican and The Law. I was about to turn 10, and now I’m about to turn 31 in a few months. I’ve been waiting for them to start kicking ass again!
I love this.
I also would have loved a similar situation with Pantera. Life is short.
I hope they keep it together. The best musicians I played with split up in ‘94. We wrote good music together, but attitudes split us up.
We were together just about every day & after a while, we got on each other’s nerves.
But, I miss them & the music we wrote together.
At least the guys from Exhorder all live near each other.
The guys from the band I’m referring to are all over the map (the cofounder is in Kansas, the bass player is upstate Washington & the drummer is still in SoCal.
Regarding the early Exhorder albums, I’m sure they could remaster them.
Regarding Dr. John, he was a really good person. I met him in ‘90 when I was still 19 & we spent a month around each other.
He was a really good person.
I love Exhorder!!!!!!!!!
Perfect 1 album!!!!!! perfect production!!!
I know they're different genres, but they should do a tour with Possessed! They are also back after many years with a a killer album.
Now we just need new albums from Dark Angel, Coroner and Demolition Hammer. Cheers!
I saw posessed back in 2010 that would be a great combo!
I'm fucking *STOKED* that Exhorder are back together. Slaughter In The Vatican is one of my favorite albums of all time. The Law rules as well. Here's to hoping they put out a new album!
I'd love to see Kyle do another Floodgate record. Such an underrated band and album.
GREAT BAND! AHEAD OF THEIR TIME!
Ye are back. New album is amazing. Welcome back guys
“We don’t get nervous...we cause nervousness.”
Fucking right.
Love Exhorder also love Pantera but I will have to say I had both slaughter at the Vatican and the album the law before I got cowboys from hell I look at it as a blessing to have 2 awesome legendary and very influential bands look forward to their next album keep on keeping on
And a year later they dropped a killer album
Hell yeah! Great to see these guys back. Slaughter in the Vatican rules!
Funny how this just poped on my feed. Lol I Was just listening to The Law today. Those first albums are gold, hell all ex horder is gold. These guys rip and its sad not many people know of them. Glad ExHorder is still shredding!
Please come to the uk
This is awesome!!!
POSSESSED and EXHORDER are back!!!
New exhorder song released yesterday. It's awesome
They never left man
Fuck yeah !!
I love this band!
Exhorder is back fuck yeah and possibly new album fuck yeah again
Can we get a remastered re-release of Slaughter and Vatican?
Why? I think the album sounds perfect the way it is. Why even want a thrash metal album remastered anyway? Doesn't thrash sound best with raw, analog production?
@@msw0322 That exactly xD Theres no need for that, that album rips off faces already
Great to see these legends back. Roll on October in Dublin
Going myself. Can't wait!
n/
I heard y'all on the WTUL death metal show the first time and other speed and thrash metal. Changed my life. Rock on, from Marrero!
EXHORDER reunion... If Necrophagist ever put out a new album.. i can die peacefully
Hann Pungartnik
Ah hell yes to Necrophagist
Saint Vitus, Brooklyn New York, the basement. Changing room. Cool spot to play at.
Love this band and I'm a huge Pantera/Dimebag fan also.
great questions by the interviewer
Bring back Chris Nail, he killed it on the law.
on the law ? He did some of the most brutalizing/savage drumming at the time on ´slaughter in the vatican` ... can´t you lay off the pipe for a simple comment ?
He killed it on both albums. To this day he's still one of my favorite drummers of all time
Why did Vinnie quit?
Cutting edge metal with groundbreaking riffs, keep going guys show the kids how it's done,yo!!
Fuck yeah! Moving to NOLA soon, hope I get a chance to see these guys
Do you think Phil sat Dime and Vinnie down and showed them Exhorder?
Phil has worn a Exhorder shirt back in the day. So quite possibly he did. Besides I thought I heard somewhere that Phil was influenced by Exhorder.
They are all friends and have played shows together for years. Phil was in a band with most of these guys.
Deffo....I am a massive pantera fan but we need to face the reality. ..Pantera took a lot from Exhorder
@@luigiesposito872 yes
@@luigiesposito872 "took a lot" sounds so negative when reading it. It sounds like the implication is the style is stolen... every band that you listen to has elements of other bands... This is how music progresses. I'm so glad Exhorder existed... Because Pantera would not have been the same. I love Groove Metal...its just the progression of the genre. Lamb of God is considered Groove metal... heavily influenced by Pantera... Allegedly... so by definition Lamb of God was heavily influenced by Exhorder... Whether they listen to them or not. Unless you blatantly take a riff written by someone else...its just influence.
I find myself practicing guitar all the time... And just freestyling trying to write riffs... And a lot of my stuff just sounds like lamb of God riffs ...even though they are not Lamb of God riffs...they just sounds very Lamb of Godish...you know what I mean? But I didn't steal any lamb of God riffs. I have just learned so many lamb of god riffs their "style" of riff writing kinda rubbed off on me...giggity. but it's the same with all that remains riffs. I be writi riffs...and they always sound very All That Remains ish to me. BUT they aren't. They are original riffs. You know what I mean? Am I making any sense?
Let's reissue .fuck yes
No need to change a thing with the early albums there phenomenal, and no need to be mad about pantera they were directly influenced by exhorder, let's face it pantera kept metal alive through the 90s
These dudes may be the pioneers of the sound, but Pantera perfected it.
Vinnie said something that I was just thinking about New Orleans being the only place that groove could come from. I'm a big fan of Acid Bath and always thought that about them. Louisiana has a vibe and a flavour that the rest of the US doesn't. The same way Cuba has a flavour. Exhorder were trying to do fast thrash and that New Orleans groove just slipped in. Very interesting from a music history perspective.
Better late than never. Feels like ages (because it has been?) Lol
I reached out to one of the guitarists years ago via email I think (he had a website with it posted as I recall) asking them if they would transcribe the guitar on the ild albums (especially the law), he responded and said he had been thinking about it.
I'm still waiting! Such killet riffs on that album but it's so hard to hear the guitar clearly in the mix, especially with the "wah" filter on them.
Long Live to Exhorder
Awesome album \,,/
Do not change a fuckin thing!
Fucking AWESOME
Fucking legands
Groove Metal came from the bars of New Orleans.
Took them long enough. Would be nice if Jay and Chris come back too. So, guess new album is coming soon?
Yes sometime in 2019
Picked up the new CD a few months ago, had never heard of them but the cover had a sticker that said they represented the NOLA sound. Oh yeah, ? Sounds cool, I will give it a try, nothing else is getting me excited. Put it in the player, and holy shit, hang on. Great band. Awesome CD. Why the hell aren't these cats having there name dropped every two minutes? I love getting hip to something great.
Exhorder!!!
Wish ABUSE would come back together
Yesssssss
Love this band!!! METAL TILL DEATH LADS!!!
🤘
F/n classic metal at it's best so we all have our hopes
Of a new album
It's coming ...I'm friends with KT on fb
Why'd Vinny leave again?
I like my coffee how I like my sabbath
So groove metal came out in early nineties ? Take "Over and out", it's dated 1988...
Exhorder is 87
@@ayesupman923 Their original sound wasn't groovy, I mean it was groovy like a good thrash metal band of that era, more on the Slayer side, but it wasn't fresh like Pantera.
@@fyodorkaramazov2136 in all reality everything is subjective, but I find exhorder to be a very unique band so saying they arent "fresh" is something I wouldn't particularly agree with, slaughter in the vatican is thrash of it's own kind, either way the truth is phil liked exhorder and made music with inspiration from them, pantera still did there own thing tho, I ain't hatin
The term got coined and popularized in the 90s, but it's roots are probably late 80s.
I seriously think DRI is the roots of Groove Metal but that's just me i am probably wrong.
🤘🤘🤘
These guys seem pretty cool real...
Slaughter in the Vatican....still amazing....
Old guys rule.
Damn gearing vinnie talk so positively about the band and knowing what happened after this just sucks.
I really wish theyd managed to keep it together for this last album
The album is great, but could sound better with vinnie on the battle axe
Saw these guys at The Chance in Poughkeepsie, great guys, awesome set.. shitty crowd. Lead vocalist is a stand up guy. He's phenomenal
He shouldn't even have gone to "groove metal". Exhorder is pure thrash!!
It's these perpetually unique pussies that think each band needs to have its own sub-sub-sub-genre name to describe their sound.
Slaughter The Vatican is like CFH from Pantera but slightly heavy and fast than it
Yes and more Thrash Metal it's debated if this album is Groove Metal at all but i think so but The Law is definitly.
Need some black shoes vin
Come 2 Knox Tn
Groovy, bluesy rock can also be said to come from texas before all these guys with zz top
The new record without Vinnie is unbelievably good!!
Vinny is soooo N'awlins bruh!
Who knew will ferrel was a legendary metal vocalist
HAHA. RAISE THE FUCKIN ROOF BOYS
EXHORDER IS BACK IN TOWN!
LETS FUCKIN DO THIS....I AM SOOOOO PUMPED!
YES YES YESS.....HAHAHAHAAAAAAAA
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🇺🇸😎
Sorry but there was never anything groove about them. They are bad ass for sure but Pantera was groove metal, the similarities between phil and him are there but what made them groove was dimebags slither country upbringing and style combined with everyone else. Pantera was THE PERFECT STORM.
I love Exhorder (And this show was amazing!) but this whole "groove metal" BS needs to stop! Groove was brought into heavy music by NEW YORK HARDCORE in the mid-80s! PERIOD! If you have to give a "metal" band credit for it then that would be PRONG. And it sure as SHIT wasn't "invented" by Pantera...
ThaMulatto1 prong was industrial metal. Not groove metal
Later on they were but their good albums (the 1st 3) were groovy as shit and not industrial (except for the whack snare sound on "Beg To Differ"- that they were going for an industrial sound (foreshadowing the future) but the music was definitely NOT). Back then that stupid term ("groove metal") didn't exist.
Fuck yes!!!!!
ThaMulatto1 pantera invented breakdowns with cowboys from hell, and the law was more on the wave of pantera, even because slaughter in the vatican was an album in the wave of teutonic/german death/thrash metal, so i would say that they inspired each others. they both did the story of a genre and i love both a lot.
HAHAHA not even close my friend! Breakdowns have been around since at least the mid-80s! Do your homework! And if anything, metalwise- Kreator's "Betrayer" has the illest china cymbal breakdown and that came out a year earlier. Pantera invented NOTHING but DID keep the metal flame alive through the mid-90s so they can get credit for that.
Man ... you just don´t replace Chris Nail . Just don´t .
Sometimes shit happens Exodus fans used to say the same thing about Paul Bostaph when he replaced Tom Hunting on Shovel Headed Kill Machine eventually Tom came back but like i said Exhorder can do it without Nail hell Death Angel got even more heavier with Carroll replacing Andy Galeon.
I HATE the term "Groove Metal". Groove Metal was bands like 24/7 Spies, The Hard Corps, Living Color, Fishbone. Then someone decided to call half the thrash bands out there groove metal. Love Exhorder. Glad they are back and hope to catch them live. But I'm never gonna call them "groove" metal till they become an Earth Wind and Fire cover band. ua-cam.com/video/Gs069dndIYk/v-deo.html
OMG! This band is one of my biggest influences. Its always been an exclusive club. Hopefully no longer.
And......., they broke up already. Kyle Thomas is a great singer but one original member does not make a band.
Vinnoe wasn't an original member?
@@riffgroove Vinnie is out
@@integrity101
I wonder why.
Way to show Pantera who's still alive and kicking...
Who's the hipster dweeb interviewing them?
They were more thrasher than Pantera but Pantera had that Texas swing southern square dance to them and their thrash metal
Pantera is influenced by them especially Phil go listen to cowboys from hell the demos especially
