Although I'm predominantly a Mopar guy, I have to honestly say one of the fastest muscle beasts I've ever ridden in was one of these big block monsters. I can't remember what was under the hood back in the 80s, i was really partying hard that decade, lots of Buds and buds, but I do remember being stuck to the back of the seat and the front end almost lifting off the ground when he punched it! Ah yes,the good old days! My good friend Steve's buddy was cool enough to give us hell of a cruise that day! R.i.p. Steve, you were a great friend and person and I miss you still. Thanks again.
These and the Buick GSX’s were just so tasty. For me, these are the perfect size cars to be a lot of fun and comfortable daily drivers at the same time.
I had a 1970 Chevelle SS with the 402 cid big block, same as 396 just bigger bore, factory Holly carburetor, 4 speed Muncie transmission but I changed the shifter and installed the Hurst shifter, 4:11 12 bolt posi trac rearend, I changed out the factory manifolds and put a set of tuned headers with turbo mufflers, I replaced the factory wheels with US Custom Aluminum Mag wheels with 50 series tires on rear and 70 series tires on front, the car was solid black, with white interior, it had the 402 at bottom of front fenders, I also installed traction bars, and then I made the two biggest mistakes of my life in 1980, I got married to my first wife and she couldn't drive a standard, (she didn't really try to learn, she really wanted me to sell the car because it attracted beautiful women, so she said later), then I sold the car for a car with a automatic transmission, my biggest mistake. I'm well into my sixties now living with my third wife of 23 years that loves fast cars and she can drive a standard too and I sure do miss and wish I still had that 70 Chevelle SS.
I own a 70 Malibu 2 Dr Sports Coupe with all the SS options added ...a true survivor made in Canada and still being driven only on the nicest of days in the northeast.
my 66 SS chevelle remains my fav car i ever owned. especially when it got the 1970 LS6 crate motor. price of car $1200 price of crate motor $795. 12.20 1/4 mile on street tires. great video. thanks✌️
Terry Schnereger vic hubbard’s speed & marine san leandro,ca. *reggie jackson’s hangout. sticker price for a SS chevelle that year was about $3,500. trust me $800 was a chunk of change in those days✌️
If I could have a muscle car from that era it would be a 1970 LS6 or a 1970 Buick GS Stage 1. There are so many great cars from that era, but I just really like those body styles.
Jim Agle has a small used car lot in Peoria, IL around 1982. In it sat an extremely nice ‘70 Chevelle SS 454 LS6, 4 spd manual, Cowl Induction hood, rare BENCH seat in red with black stripes. Price in 1982 was $8000!!!!!!!!
Wow! But to be fair, that's about $35,000-$38,000 in today's money. Average new car price in 1982 was $9,300... so definitely a bargain on a relative basis.
These are about as good as it gets when you are talking about 1970 Muscle cars. Man do these bring back memories of a better time . I’m glad everyone can see these fine pieces of American Machinery . Thanks for bringing them to us
@@Knightmare-gz9ls Absolutely, the factory never did. But Motion, and/or Yenco, and some of the aftermarkets did. I remember a sweet one at New England dragway mid 70s, running Modified Production, and it was beautiful.
@@joequillun7790 have to look them up. Living in Pa car guys know all about yenko. Motion being in NY was also well know. Nickey and few others not so much.
Always great, Kevin! Though I had a '70 Z28 in the mid '70s, I was always a little envious of the guy down the street with the cool '70 Chevelle 454 with cowl induction. Always loved the Chevelle! Again, thanks, Kevin! :)
Man that red one with the white top sure pops. Beautiful cars. In a perfect world I would own a green one with a black or dark green top with white stripes. :) Thanks for sharing.
one thing that got left out was that the 396 was available in 2 different levels of power. the 350hp L34 and the 375HP L78 in the 1970 Chevelle. the L78 was discontinued in late October of 1969 since the LS5 made 365HP. my uncle had a silver and black 1970 Chevelle L78 4 speed when I was a kid growing up. he agreed to sell it to me when I was 16, he ended up selling it just before I had the enough money to buy it. wish I had it now.
Ford had a 390 big block. Chrysler had a 383 big block. Its not the cubic inches its the fact that some manufacturers had a small V8 and a big V8 at the same time, we are talking about physical size.
I would take a 70 SS396 L78 with 375 hp with the solid lifter cam and 4 speed, but it MUST have the ZL2 Cowl Induction flapper hood and gauge pkg and console w/buckets.
I think there was a red with black striped 70 chevelle 454 in a movie staring sly stallone as good guy n Wesley Snipes as bad guy. It was set into the future, but forget name of it, I got some googling to do. Demolition man it was called. NVM it was a red with black striped 442. I'd take one of those though too!
Wasn't the 70 396 actually a 402? If I were to be coaxed away from the indians, for a 70 bow-tie, it would have-ta be a black one, (I hear they're fastest) LS-6, M-22, and 4.10 12 bolt. (thank you very much. I wait impatiently for it. I'll be home by 4 PM) :)
Black paint is faster. The 396 was a legend so Chevy always called it a 396(in Chevelles, Camaros and Novas) even if it was a 402. In sometimes it was called a 400 even if it was a 402.
Entertaining video; Look forward to the next.
When cars were cool! I was 13 in 1970 and drooling over all the cars!
Thanks for the memories!

I love silver with black stripes SS 454 LS6 and cranberry red with black stripes as well.
Alright alright alright !!

The word 'beastly' does not begin to describe how beastly these Chevelles are.
My favorite!
That was so friggin awesome...........
Im glad to see them used like they were made to....not pamperd trailer queens
Very limited number left...i would pamper mine....if i had one.
Love the 66 ss the best personally.
I agree. 'Specially with a 427 , M-22, and a 4.10 12 bolt. :)

Pure awesomeness 😁

I love that lasts paint job, you know it's original 70's GM paint with that Gap on stripes in the crease on the hood, only from the factory.

Yeah I said the same thing. We got 396/375 at my dads. Hes got quite a few rare chevelles. Hes addicted lol
My brother had a '70 Malibu with a high performance 350. He lost his license for a while, lol.
A 396 Big Block? I, thought anything under 400 cubic inches, are considered a small block engine.

What is the name of the last car on the intro? The one that does the burnout just before their logo show up
I would use it to drift a great and powerful Chevy
Hey Kevin did the Rona get ya? No video huh?
You forgot to mension the 402 Chevell
That’s one thing about the chevelle Ss,to me it look great from the time it came out through 1970.
Did the brothers run out of cars cuz its been recently only these wrap up videos already viewed cars. 🤔
Will take a 70 l78 with l34 aluminum cylinder heads. If I got my facts right.
