I was looking at a past paper and I saw a question that asked about how the theme of memories is presented. It really took me by surprise because the only thing that came to my mind is Curley's wife. Are there any other characters or situations that represent the theme of memories?

I literally had looked at that same question yesterday! If you were to write about memories, consider the following points:
1) George & Lennie's recent memory of having to flee the previous ranch - George gives Lennie many reminders of the previous ranch
2) Curley's wife's memories of Hollywood and the promise she had received to be in the "pitchers"
3) Candy cherishes memories of his dog which provided him happiness and companionship

@@FirstRateTutors Great, thanks a lot. Now that I think of it, Crooks also mentions his childhood in the book. I think that including him in the essay would be a good transition to writing about the historical context.

Yes sort of. The examiners (or at least for edexcel) don’t need quotes based on the aos but they are in the mark schemes so definitely learn some because they indirectly mark them through ao1

It's not.compulsory but if you want any grade above a U you need quotes which you will have to memorize.
