Thank-you for making this awesome video of our beautiful village of Westward Ho!
I am also grateful to call this place home x
Thank you, well my latest video is on Bideford where I now live, but I certainly do miss living in Westward ho! And being able to just walk down to the beach. All the best.
@@circa77 I watched the Bideford one too. Very interesting x
Thank you, it's certainly interesting looking to the history of these areas.
My family and I holidayed in Kipling Tors throughout the 1970s. Does anyone reading this remember it? It was a holiday camp which we went to and we had some wonderful times there. The town itself was lovely too, especially the enormous slide that we kids absolutely loved.
Used to go to the Burrows for 3 weeks every summer and on Fridays we were allowed to play the slots in Westwood Ho! Happy days…Thank you for the video, I always wondered where the pebbles came from.
Sounds like you have some fun memories, I still go in the slots on occasion, thanks for the comment.
Kocham to miejsce. Cudowne. Straszny domek z Kubusiem Puchatkiem przywiązanym na zewnątrz robi wrażenie na dzieciach. Na pewno tam wrócę.
Thanks so much. Visited Westward Ho today and your video gave much interesting information.
Thank you, it does have some interesting history, it was fun researching it, hope you had a nice trip.
My favourite place for a holiday !
It certainly is a beautiful part of the country, thanks for your comment.
This is a very, very good film about that popular resort. Enjoying this and thanks for sharing.
Thank you, much appreciated.
Awesome video. Loved going there on holiday as a child in the 90's. The memories of crabbing, on the beach, arcades.. my favourite rock pool was 30foot out from the right side of the pool.Hope to take my family there soon.
I have been to westward ho several time stay beachside & Braddicks always wondered about that haunted house thank you for the info solved a puzzle was a good video to
Glenifer Brookes, thank you, glad it helped, it really is a lovely place with a fascinating history. Thanks again.
I used to be taken there, for holidays, by my parents back in the 60s. We stayed in caravans near Links Road I think. I have so many fond memories of this place.
Thanks for the comment, it really is a lovely place, I'm glad you have fond memories of it, have you visited recently ?
@@circa77 I haven't been there since the early 70s, but I now, as of last year, live in South East Devon, and I intend to see all the places in North Devon that we used to take our holidays in. My parents loved that part of the country. They would holiday there whenever they weren't abroad.
That will be awesome then, sure it will be a great trip and bring back some good memories.
i came to westward ho for an interview i didn't get the job, still love the place though excellent video thank you
Thank you, it is a beautiful place, even when it gets a bit hectic in the summer haha.
Nicely put together and a gentle wander around Westward Ho!
Thank you, much appreciated.
A lovely tribute to Westward Ho!.👍 I loved surfing and swimming there on the weekends and in the school holidays when I grew up.
Just found your channel.. Will watch and catch up on your other videos.
Thank you, much appreciated, yeah it is a pretty awesome place with some great history, all the best.
@@circa77 I grew up there. Lived in Bideford, then Instow.. So Westward Ho was a favorite place to go.. Even now when home visiting my parents. I love that Rob (Braddick) is so passionate about it to and keeps it on the map😉
Haha yeah, he certainly does, they have some fun events there now, especially day of the dead, and it's funny you commented on this video, as I have recently been researching the history of Bideford as I live there now, hopefully will be able to get out tomorrow to do some filming.
First went there in 1963 and marveled at the large beach very reminicent of many in California which ive spent many great times on.Rog.
Yeah, it has an amazing beach, especially when the tide is out and it's quiet, and you can walk the length of it.
Nice video, I come from Appledore and grew up in this area from 1960 to 1980 and it was nice to learn a couple of things I didn’t know thank you
Thank you, I only lived in the area for 3 years, but it was interesting looking into the history of the place.
Wonderful place and classic video. I liked your Video.
New SUBSCRIBER.
Thank you again, very much appreciated.
Thanks for this, really interesting. We’ve just arrived for a holiday here so will be checking out the areas you’ve outlined in the video 👍
Welcome, thank you for your comment, hope you have a great holiday.
Hello there ,just come across your channel, in the 70's we used to come to a hi de hi type of holiday centre which stood high on the hill overlooking westward ho! Just wondered if you had any info on it, I think it closed late 70's, had some wonderful times there loved it ,any photos or info would appreciated.
Hmmm, not sure about that one, I know their is a place up there now that does self catering holiday cottages, but that used to be a stud farm years back.
Great video, had a visit earlier in the month a really lovely place, can't wait to come back so I can visit some of the places I missed!
It really is a beautiful area, can be a bit hectic in the height of the summer though haha, hope you get to come back and enjoy more of it, all the best.
Thank you so much for doing this video, I spent many happy holidays in Westward Ho! as a kid, hoping to take my own kids next year. We used to go swimming at the "patio pool" which I'm sure was at the back of the haunted house!
Thank you for your comment, yeah it is a lovely place, unfortunately it's getting quite built up now, a lot of new houses and apartments, but is still a lovely area, hopefully you get back for another visit 🙂
Very interesting video of a special part of North Devon with rich history. I hope you can reach out a little further next time, maybe interview locals with a stories to tell. Thanks.
Hi, thanks, and yeah, that sounds like a good idea, I will have to keep that in mind, thanks again
WOW - YEAH - i was there when i was a teenager studying english - and i have a beautiful memory of the endless shore at low tide -
Glad you have some fond memories, sure is a beautiful place, great when you get a nice day and can watch the sunset behind the sea.
@@circa77 yes - and i guess those seaside places are linked to some musical inspirations - i am referring to some example of melancholic post rock - or post punk - cocteau twins - mogwai - and many others - i play music myself - though it is out of topic with this post - but i will give you the link to it - all the same - it sure is melancholic and very difficult to present to a large public - soundcloud.com/dark-joy
@@circa77 i did a tour of devon with a rented car - beautiful moments - clovelly - polperro - tintagel - ilfracombe - widecombe in the moor ... yeah - great -
Awesome, I shall take a listen thanks.
I like this place I've been twice. I was shocked on second visit how the village inn pub had gone down hill such a shame!
It is a lovely place, I have only been in the village Inn a couple of times, I like it there as it seems to be quieter and a bit more of a traditional pub.
@@circa77 my husband loved it but 2nd time there was different staff and I sat out back in garden area and it was unkempt and it was beautiful and we heard it had changed owner. I will definitely be going in next 6 weeks I love beachside camp.
Well hopefully for your next visit it will have changed owners again, for the better 😃 hopefully you have a great stay.
Thanks very much for the very informative Video! We used to go to Ho! between 89 and 90. There we often went to two pubs, The Anchor and The Black Ketch. Recently we went back to Ho! but couldn‘t get any information about where they were… maybe somebody here knows?
Although it was shown twice, no mention was made about the Kipling 'If' poem whose first verse has been embedded into the promenade walk. I think this is a very significant part of Westward Ho!!
Very true, at the time I didn't pay much attention to that I suppose, as I was thinking more about the older historic areas of Westward Ho!, but it is something I should have probably considered mentioning, thanks.
Great video
Yes more volume on the voice please .. so quiet can barely hear you ... gorgeous sunset!!!
Thanks for the feedback.
Nice short film Don
Very interesting,thanks 👍
Thank you for watching, and your comment.
Wow used to life in bideford in 80s..wow westward ho has changed so much
I can imagine so, I have seen some older pictures, certainly seems a lot different.
@@circa77 went to bideford school then the 6th form understand it to be flats now shame ..anyone reading this were you the class of 87 like me?
Yeah. They did a good job in screwing it up. I lived there in the 90tes. Completely different place now. Terrible.
@@ReinholdBinder-d9n I left bideford I Jan 1990 bad mistake age 19 would love to move back now 54 sadly everywhere changes and not always for the better soul like to live out of town
my favourite place in england my grandad there on holiday right now wish i was there
Thanks for your comment, yeah it is a lovely place, although was even better a few weeks back when it was sunny and warm 😃

Are you available for an interview Saturday night ? We are in town creating content to share about North Devon
Hi there, how are you ? Are you going to be in westward ho! ? If you would like to give me more info please feel free to email me at circaa77@gmail.com.
Rose West grew up at Northam nearby
Interesting but background music too loud.
Yeah, something I need to work on, getting the balance just right between the talking and the music, thanks for the feedback.
Great video, its a shame that house was left it has history,,
It has been bought by a local business man, and I believe it it getting restored and turned into a holiday let, or something along those lines.
@@circa77 yes correct, I live westward ho area
It is a beautiful area for sure
Used to be such a nice quiet place, now blighted by excessive housing and overpopulation, by blow ins
Misery guts.
Good job, thanks.... a little bit more upbeat in the voice maybe !
Thanks for the comment, and yes, the voice is something I definitely need to work on, thanks.
I like the voice it's really chilled out! Lol
I love westward ho!
Dude... you need to look at the accepted dates for the last ice age.... the last was c.12000 years ago (10,000BC) not 180000 years ago. The petrified forest is visible about every 70 years or so and will be a lot older that 6000 years...
Enjoyed the video but the soundtrack was awkward to listen to : I'm deaf and the music was too loud and the voice too soft. Ideally, if narrating a video, music should be omitted.
Thanks for the feedback, will keep that in mind
What a letdown
You can't please everyone
Speak up a bit!
Looks totally ruined
